I heard Gavin had changed his mind and is now considering implementing smaller blocks than 20MB (I think he said something like 8MB). Will you still be implementing 20MB blocks despite Gavin's change of mind?

It all depends on how the test goes.  Bitcoin won't be a daily use coin, the tx costs will simply be way too high once the price sky rockets, which I think will happen soon.

So Bitcoin won't need 20mb for another year in my opinion, but a currency which will be cheaper and more efficient to use, a daily use coin, would need at least 20mb.

There's no way to know which coin(s) will be used for daily use, I think [at first] there will be multiple currencies.

That said, if iXCoin can survive this stress test and do a proper 20mb hard-fork, then we would absolutely update to 20mb.

If the test goes well, then all the pools will update.  There is no question about that.

We're hoping to start testing the iXcoin network this Monday to see how well iXcoin scales.  Our hope is to help Bitcoin with the upcoming 20mb hard fork.  The Bitcoin test net isn't scaling as needed so we hope, since iXcoin is a Bitcoin Twin, to show that iXcoin can scale to 20mb and do it successfully.
What does 'hoping to start testing the IXcoin network' mean exactly? To change the blocksize requires a hardfork and you'd need everyone to update. Having one miner change, even a big one, won't do anything since all the nodes won't have updated and their blocks would be rejected. As a pool mining ixcoin it would be useful to know exactly what is happening in case it affects the pool so I can prepare in advance.

Announcement:

I am not 100% about this but I felt I had to announce it in case it does happen as it would be a material event.

The upside, if we succeed, could be huge.

But as one would imagine, the downside is also a big potential risk.  Nobody knows what will happen with such a huge stress test and eventually a hard fork, hence Bitcoin's need for a live, real world testnet.  So the risk for iXcoin could be very big but given this huge opportunity, we have discussed it with our partners and have decided to give it a go.

I will keep everyone posted as things progress.

Best regards,

Roberto Vlad

It's about a year since I started posting here.  Absolutely nothing has happened apart from posturing and waffling.  What's gonna breathe life into this zombie?

i have to admit , i enjoy the visits of zebedee

i don't want to hurt his feelings but I think every prediction he has made or fortold has been 100% wrong including his 'observations'.

also we should be honoured that a 'donor' member of such clout visits us at all

i think he likely suffers from insomnia spinning around in his mind why ix did not die so many times in the past.  He seems a bitcoin loyalist/purist all the way, the type who holds an opinion that any coin other than btc is useless/worthless.  I wonder why ix bothers him so much. Certainly there are coins with more 'market cap' than ix now and even user base.....

hopefully in his honor when the 10.x code base is prepared we will insert the name

'zebedee' client instead of the name 'satoshi' or 'ixcoin' in the qt client.

Is anyone else in favor of this idea ??

If not at the very least maybe we can put html links commented out in the source code in various spots to his posts of last year predicting the fall of ix !!

Only by joining iX coin in the souce code can we immortalize zebedee for future generations.

Like neo had his destiny in the popular film the matrix.

Except this is real.

Edit:  Also seems to be laziness on the part of the original developers of ixcoin that they didn't keep that consistent.

When you take your time with a well thought out plan its amazing what you will accomplish.  The main thing is Bitcoin will need solutions to blockchain bloat and Ixcoin is a very real solution to future problems. With mergemined code and a high hash rate, Ixcoin will be a needed chain to help Bitcoin scale.

Too bad for those who "missed the boat". I see great things in the future for Ixcoin.

Cheesy
I just loved the way you jumped from your chair. Lol
(It was a joke, not an attempt to undermine your person.)
http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-events/

The volume for iXcoin seems to have no real future if not linked to real use.
And without a simple app like the new Shapeshift for IOS, iXcoin has no way to reach masses.

We'll, it would be nice to have an app like shapeshift.  But we get no help and no funding from our absentee partners.  Hard to make it happen all alone.  Cinnamon and I can only do so much.

As you can see I've been really busy coding and stuff.   Wink

And of course I'm gonna jump out of my seat when I see crypto-ballers and the words:  By Invitation Only.

I'm an invitation only kinda guy.  lol

Thanks Cinnamon, for your continued support; you've taught me more about crypto than anyone else.

Not to mentioned you've been like a guardian angel.  Smiley

I am greatly indebted to you!

Wow, I really want to go to that!!!

It won't allow me to apply for an invitation.

How do I get invited to this thing??

Edit:  That's from 2013.  No wonder I can't fill out an invitation request.  Why post something that's 2 years old?

it is on my to do list

if you have time, feel free to check it out and post your results,

you can do a gitpull if you are able to contribute, we need all the help testing everything out we can get, and NODES , run an iX node today !!

Fund raiser for Ahmed:

I wanna do a small fund raiser for Ahmed.  The guy is a student and he has done so much work for ixCoin and he has yet to be paid anything but some small tips.  On top of it he's a good, honest dev; we're lucky to have him.

I will match any donation from this community for Ahmed up to a total of 10,000 IXC (so potential of 20,000 IXC).

Bring it to me!!!

Edit: Only condition is that Ahmed can't dump these coins to pay for school books or a hot date, lol.  You gotta hold them at least 6 months.  Not much to ask...maybe you'll get an amazing Christmas this year.

Is it possible to send them to him using an nlocktime transaction so he's got them, but can't spend them for six months? I know bitcoin supports nlocktime transactions, but does ixcoin?

I noticed a long gap , appears to be well over two hours before a block was solved......until just now

When was the last time we had such a large gap?  The timing is interesting but it could be nothing.

Is there any reason why Ixcoin is so volatile now?
It can go up to 10k and back to 6k in a few days.

Uncertainty and/or development can lead to volatility.

It's great if you're a trader I guess, which I'm not.  I've never traded my IXC cause I really thought it was gonna take over the world like tomorrow.  I can't imagine how much I would have now if I had traded it.

Highest buy price on the books vs lowest sell price on the books.

If you sell to the existing orders instead of listing your coins for sale on the sell side you dump them to highest buy order on file, which tends to be quite low, especially since the bitcoins I sent to Vircurex have not arrived despite emailing them about it for several months. When I was able to keep sending bitcoins to Vircurex daily or even several times a day I was able to keep replenishing the buy side, but until the last bitcoins I sent there actually arrive I am not sending any more. So people keep dumping on me at lower and lower prices.

Similarly on the other side, if you simply buy from existing sellers instead of just placing your buy order on the buy side to wait for someone to dump on you, you get the lowest current sell offer price, which tends to be quite high.

There tends to be a huge gap between the highest buy offer and the lowest sell offer, and the usual robots do not attempt to close the gap unless they battle each other, since they just place buy offers as low as they can while still being top of the pile (aka first in line to be taken) and sell offers as high as they can while still being lowest offer aka first to be taken.

The sell offers not coming lower is probably due to dumpers not being willing to place their coins at a price and wait for a buyer to meet that price. They just throw away their coins at the existing buy offers, thus do not help build up the sell-side order-book.

I guess it is possible too that I might not be the only person who is no longer sending coins to Vircurex due to waiting still for bitcoins sent there many months ago to actually arrive there...

I keep wondering how anyone is buying stuff with bitcoins on Vircurex at all, maybe deposits of bitcoins are working for other people or maybe they have to sell something for bitcoins first before the have bitcoins there to buy anything with...
