Phil, Kano will never do an altcoin. I know you are not asking for merge mining, and I do not want that either but I would like to see what you are asking to happen. I believe options are good unless they take considerable resources away from what we have and I think it would. Kano is only one guy after all. Again though I agree with you and I have been looking hard at building a video card rig. At this point I have lost money on alts but I haven't done anything since I was very new. Now I am a bit smarter and more knowledgeable about the P&D and understand more about when to get out and stay. Unfortunately even ETH is a drama nightmare and you have to stay involved so much it requires intense attention.
Well, one of the big reasons why I stay away from altcoins is also hidden in what you said Smiley

You get into them early, you have to watch them closely, then as they dive you get out and leave anyone left behind, holding the bag ... losing money.
Now, most seem to look at that as an opportunity.
I see the end result - a bunch of people guaranteed to lose - and supporting that is how some make a profit from those losing.
The profit doesn't come out of no where, it comes from those who lose out.

Yes all financial systems are full of risk and that's how you can make money, but that's not what happens with altcoins.
They start as a pump and dump in the first place - they are expected to fail - and anyone profiting from them is doing so knowing they are simply trying to get money from those who will lose out at the end.

I really see no difference planning to do that, vs simply ripping someone off.
Thus I stay away from altcoins.
... and yes there are also other reasons Smiley

Bitcoin has a long term plan and is continuing along that path.
It wasn't created to pump and dump, it wasn't created to make Satoshi the millions/billions he could now be worth, it was created for the purpose it is used today, as an alternative financial system.
I try to keep my (small) amount of bitcoins as BTC as much as possible - I try to grow that number, not decrease it.
I do that coz I expect it to have value in the future, not to die and causes losses for all still involved.
Of course it's not impossible for Bitcoin to fail and everyone holding them to lose out, but that is not by plan and not by design.
Those who trade Bitcoin for profit (or loss), well that's no different to trading shares for profit (or loss)
But it's not expected to be a loss and not designed to be a loss.

thanks I thought that might have been it.
edit: on a different note 28 days turnaround time a controller repair for S9  Grin Grin@#$%&

yeah  I sent a hashboard and a dead controller to bitmainwarranty  they have it since  oct 6th.

I got nothing.  I have a running warranty thread on the gear.  very hard to do business with them.

At Kano   would you ever consider  an alt coin pool?
My background is accounting and financial reasons do exist for alt coins.
We have all seen the ETH coin run.

I look at the state of BTC from an economical and financial viewpoint.  The way BTC is structured it needs an altcoin  to survive.

Not 100 bs altcoins ,but a coin that is asic proof that uses gpu's and cpus to mine it.
I have read your opinion on altcoins  and I do agree having a hundred plus is pretty much bs,  but having one or two good ones seems to be needed.

I used bitmainwarranty for my recent one week out of warranty S9 board failure. It was $200 including $25 for freight.
The same exact day I was paying for that repair I had an IO / control board failure so I ordered both boards and a fan. The fan was a just because none of my extra fans run at the RPM of the S9 fans. Another $200 bucks. That S9 is under warranty but it isn't worth the fight or wait.
I wish they could have at least boxed all items together bc it really sucks to get it with another $25 in freight.
I have to say that Yoshi has taken care of me in a very great way considering some of the major issues I have been through with the factory. He has been the only one with ANY long-term business sense. Oh obviously the people in charge at bimain are smart business people and have made enough money to do anything they ever want. However they do not realize that if there is EVER another reasonable choice there are many people who will never give them another penny. I will try to support Yoshi considering what he has done for me, but again just give me another company offering a miner for a reasonable price or higher price with better quality and I will have to figure out another way to support Yoshi which doesn't involve purchasing Bitmain miners.

It took Bitmainwarranty about two weeks total including all shipping time out and back. UPS Ground is about 2 days each way. They had the board for about 5 business days for the repair.
I am simply out of fight with the factory. They wore me down but that is also why I will do my business with Yoshi and anyone else at this point.

Block by hashforall with 85TH/s!  This is his 4th Kano block and our 3rd of the day!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

w00t!  Gotta lovem all!

Started here when I learned Kano and CK were running pools and have been here ever since.
I believe that was around Jan - Feb of 2015 with my S3s and S4s.
Hit my first two blocks around October and the third the start of this year.
None have been with rented hash. I have rented low amounts pretty often and large amounts off and on.
I stopped renting from n0tnice when I sincerely researched with-holding a few months ago and I am not so sure MRR is doing any better but I have not rented near the amount from there. It has mostly been 10 - 20 TH for a few weeks.
My overall hashrate is not that high. It has mostly been in the 40 - 50 range and now I sit at 72 TH without any rentals.
I think I have experienced good luck here considering the amount of blocks versus my hash.

hashforall!

The miner is an S7 which are all about to come offline. Unfortunately that will take my hash down considerably. The S9's suck.:

I lurk the forum these days but I am here supporting Kano IS and CKsolo as long as they are making the political decisions regarding bitcoin I either agree with or at least I don't believe cause harm. We certainly have agreed on almost everything I have ever read Smiley

No, it's just someone pointing a small botnet at the web login (about 300-400 bots)

Not a concern for mining itself, just for anyone who has a simple password.

I don't know what anyone's password is, but it would seem they managed to guess (at least) one, since one person contacted me about it and then changed their password and added 2FA (and undid the payout address change that notified them of what happened)
I blocked the full subnet (forever) that the 'hacker' logged in from, the bots themselves get blocked pretty quickly, but not all at once - since they're of course not in one subnet, but in many - so I simply block all logins for a while if I happen to see it.
Cool. Hoped that was it. I have a professional acquaintance (hosts 100+ sites) whose DNS got hit with it. The way I'm seeing it (via the info on ArsTechnica, etc.) is a rather big bother, but not fatal. He finally listened and started using the same profile I do. It ain't perfect, but it's better than most.

Thanks for the explanation. Clean, as usual. Mine on...  Cool

You know, Elaine, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you...!  Cheesy
Besides, luck's been pretty good lately, let's keep it coming!

Yeah...I'm OK with the luck lately...rewards are still good overall. Just curious on that issue, really. Part of the curiosity has to do with the dozen or so high-end hosting clients I have. I try to keep them up-to-date on anything that could be a concern for their web serfs. I require them to use certain protective layering for DDoS, but the Dyn bug seems able to, at times, get through that. Interesting problem. None of them have been hit.  Cool

EDIT:  ...that I know of...  Undecided
