No, it's just someone pointing a small botnet at the web login (about 300-400 bots)

Not a concern for mining itself, just for anyone who has a simple password.

I don't know what anyone's password is, but it would seem they managed to guess (at least) one, since one person contacted me about it and then changed their password and added 2FA (and undid the payout address change that notified them of what happened)
I blocked the full subnet (forever) that the 'hacker' logged in from, the bots themselves get blocked pretty quickly, but not all at once - since they're of course not in one subnet, but in many - so I simply block all logins for a while if I happen to see it.
Cool. Hoped that was it. I have a professional acquaintance (hosts 100+ sites) whose DNS got hit with it. The way I'm seeing it (via the info on ArsTechnica, etc.) is a rather big bother, but not fatal. He finally listened and started using the same profile I do. It ain't perfect, but it's better than most.

Thanks for the explanation. Clean, as usual. Mine on...  Cool

You know, Elaine, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you...!  Cheesy
Besides, luck's been pretty good lately, let's keep it coming!

Yeah...I'm OK with the luck lately...rewards are still good overall. Just curious on that issue, really. Part of the curiosity has to do with the dozen or so high-end hosting clients I have. I try to keep them up-to-date on anything that could be a concern for their web serfs. I require them to use certain protective layering for DDoS, but the Dyn bug seems able to, at times, get through that. Interesting problem. None of them have been hit.  Cool

EDIT:  ...that I know of...  Undecided

I know it's a ridiculously paranoid question...humor me, OK? Do you think the botnet issue could be related to the recent Dyn event re the IoT botnet?

Reason for the question is that, if one of our users has an IoT bug, it could explain the targeting...and motivate all of us to make sure our own networks are clean. BTW...none of my home appliances, etc. are IoT enabled.

Seems this is the time of day to send password botnets at the pool.
If the login blocking is enabled, you'll get a blank screen after you try to login no matter if you get it right or not.
You just have to wait a while ... coz it's like that for a reason Smiley

I guess they have an account and login and get the user list and use that.
So just make sure you don't have a silly easy password, or you have 2FA enabled.

Also, you will always get an email if anything important changes on your account.

Thanks for taking care of us!  Grin

Tell me how the pool could find a block of -1 second, how can even be a negative value of time?  Huh

- tradeblock screen
That's just the date set on the block by the mining operation and doesn't accurately reflect time. The bitcoin network would allow the timestamp to be up to 10 minutes in the past or 2 hours in the future and still be valid.

yeah  I sent a hashboard and a dead controller to bitmainwarranty  they have it since  oct 6th.

I got nothing.  I have a running warranty thread on the gear.  very hard to do business with them.

At Kano   would you ever consider  an alt coin pool?
My background is accounting and financial reasons do exist for alt coins.
We have all seen the ETH coin run.

I look at the state of BTC from an economical and financial viewpoint.  The way BTC is structured it needs an altcoin  to survive.

Not 100 bs altcoins ,but a coin that is asic proof that uses gpu's and cpus to mine it.
I have read your opinion on altcoins  and I do agree having a hundred plus is pretty much bs,  but having one or two good ones seems to be needed.

Labrador appears to be down.

I was told a "2 hour scheduled downtime for new transformer installation"

If they're gonna do a scheduled down time, maybe they should post it somewhere we're going to see it. Or blast an e-mail. Sorry...my patience is a bit thin with the A6 not having even an RMA yet.
