pool just went dead and kano.is is down. Everything all right?
Nope, a ddos happening ...

Kano - will the site be using an anti-DDOS solution like Cloudflare. The DDOS seems frequent now? Thanks
It already does use an anti-DDoS solution, just it both cases it hasn't fallen within the boundaries of solving the problem quickly.
Todays was, as I said:
Quote
According to the data centre, it was too small to trigger the base DDoS protection so until they manually intervened it was successful.

The DDoS itself was about 40 minutes.

The previous one lasted for for 45 minutes
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.13355153

So for both of those, I don't see any different DDoS "solution" doing much better.
(especially when the issues seem to be disconnecting from the pool, which even 30s of complete success for the DDoS will cause everyone to disconnect)

I will be setting up some other options soon to reduce the effect on most miners

The previous one to that (September 24) was a data centre attack, not directed at the pool itself, and very large.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.msg12508163;topicseen#msg12508163
so any 'other' solution would have made no difference.

Cloudflare is NOT a mining DDoS solution.
Adding (large) latency to mining (more rejected shares for everyone and more orphans) is not a good idea.

You can use the german site, de.ckpool.org:3333, it has not been a target of any of the ddos attacks.  I use it and the solo.ckpool.org as my back-ups.
Ah, great suggestion!  I'm already set to failover to the solo.ckpool.org, will add this one for the second.

I started using the hk.ckpool.org:3333 as my primary, solo and de for my Solo mining too. This is a nice setup CK and will lessen the DDOS impact.

Can we look at the kernel log to see why the miner os crashes?
Happens way too often

Took out three of my miners on the flip

One of mine completely flaked out.  Failed over to backup pool ok but then when it tried to fail back to kano even the web interface got all horked. S-7 batch 8.  I had to power cycle it.

Same here, took out a batch 8 S7, does not reposed and can't ping. I'm not local to it, so could be a day out so before I can power cycle it. Bummer

Ditto here.  Took out two of my S5s and they don't want to respond now.  Won't be able to reboot them until the weekend too.  Kinda sucks.
You have no remote control?

My hashes are going crazy. Like my s4''s showing low hash rates and even rebooted. They show 2th and pointed to different pool to check and show up fine there. Are we still having issues? All my miners seem all over the place. Also I have 4 different dc with different networks so it can't be the network.

Mine at Jonny's Pool
Hi everyone, joined a little while back and have been lurking this thread for a few weeks now. Just mining with an S3 at the moment, mainly doing this as a way to get more familiar with mining in general.

First couple of weeks after I got the S3 was on Eligius so I have that one set as my 2nd choice for failover, mainly because I've already mined there. Interested in thoughts on that - seems that the payment system is set up as such that it doesn't really penalize for hopping pools and therefore seems like a good choice for one that I only intend to mine at for very short amounts of time if CKPool drops out? (I realize there are potential political conflicts that I haven't had time to read up on, sorry if I'm being ignorant here!).

Otherwise, I'm intrigued by using the German CKPool as a failover - that seems like a fantastic option. Currently have Slush as my 3rd option.

Otherwise, hi everyone! Thanks Kano - I'm really happy to have found this pool! It may have taken me took me a few weeks but I'm pretty sure my S3 has found it's "forever home" haha!
Welcome!  Kano and -ck run great pools.  You definitely can't go wrong on either of them.  If you feel like trying your luck on smaller pools, there are some good options for you, too.

Welcome aboard. I use kano, cksolo and bitminter. Promoting small and good behavior pool make sure Bitcoin stay decentralised and base on community.  Wink

I had 2 batch 5 s7's drop at my second farm.  Drove 10 miles to power cycle them.  Might be time for some IP PDU's
Had 4 s7 4.86 drop/lock up.
Was able to power cycle 3 remotely.
Number 4 was using three different PDU's so I did not know the sequence for remote cycle. Had to drive two miles to reset.
Was able to reinstall another s7 I had running in the garage at the datacenter.
The AP7911 apc pdu's work great, have eight. All used, $100 each. Saved me a poopload of trips to the datacenter.
New 4.66 comes thursday.

I've got a batch 3 and a batch 8 S7, both failed over and back with out an issue.  I'm not sure of they are running however, I'll need to go check.

I use slush as my failover.

Thank you Kano for the quick responses to the issues that have happened.

just curious, what back up pools do you use guys?
im new in mining and had all pointed to kano; lesson learnt but  not sure which would be the best option
thanks

I figure that if your miners are going on a short holiday that you might as well get a guaranteed payment while they are AWOL.

Otherwise they have a costly holiday and don't earn much unless there is a block found while they are on another pool during the failover

For that reason I use PPS failovers.

Yes - I will wash my mouth out with soap after this.

F2Pool (PPS)
Antpool (PPS)

I must admit, those are my backup pool also but PPLNS. I switched over to Kano from Antpool after I read this thread.
