Is this the longest time ever that we can't hit a block, so long Sad
Keep mining on...
Time? Nope - the first block ever found on the pool was pretty slow coz the pool was tiny.
It was also lucky (less than 100%)

However, Diff% is what matters for rewards, and this one is 542% at the moment.

The 2 largest are there on the Web site Blocks page at the end of October - the largest being 928.788%

Now for that CDF related number Smiley
0.99557285335217  542.000%  1 in 225.9
i.e. we expect to average, over time, 1 in 225.9 blocks to be over 542%

Sure seems to be concerted effort in some mainstream media to disparage BTC...interesting...

C'mon, blocks...gotta pay my hosting bill on the Ice Planet...  Kiss

Carl, aka Sonny :)
So we missed an entire difficulty level... The entire time network difficulty was 2603B (from Jan 22 to Feb 6) we did not find a block... Has that ever happened before?

I hate to say it, but we might be getting too small...  I can accept variance, but at what point is it too high?

The answer is "what ever fits into your comfort level", pure and simple.  I'm fine with it.

I'm in BTC XTC
I'd vote for "not worth it"  Wink  Any small % increase in hashrate will cost even more in electricity due to non-linearity of power vs hashrate, and let's face it, S9's are running on the ragged edge already as is, right?  Roll Eyes
Any dissenting opinions?

Anyone here have any experience with over clocking S9's
Can you get better hash rate or is it not worth the risk?

Thx

so looks like your wire has a loose connection.  you probably were wiggling it while you refreshed the page to see the fan speed?  a loose wire will cause it to think its more pulses than what the tach on the fan is reading,  hence the very high number.  That fan should be around 6000 as well.  The sensor in the fan might be bad too.  I dont think in the last 35 years of any electronics I have used that had a tach on the fan I had it not working, but never know.
inspect the cable end and see if the wire is crimped onto the metal pin inside the connector, and make sure the pin is seated properly in the connector.  You can  remove the pin/wire from the plastic connector by moving the little  edge of the side of that pin so it slides past the plastic of the connector.  Like a small tab.  I would look at it and make sure there is contact between the wire and the metal pin, and make sure the opeing op that pin is not too loose that it doesnt actually contact the pin on the control board.  Like " Throwing a hot dog in a hallway"   X GF told me that..  :-)
You can try a fan from the other miners too and swap it out to determin if it is the fan or the control board.

Update the firmware should be first.

Have updated firmware... did not help..

Good idea on trying fans from other miner...

still revving up and down though... will gt back on it when I get back home early next week..headed out of town fishing trip, Yeah!

I just plugged the s9 that has a board down back in for now

Gotta go momma hollering to get my ass home, lol

Thanks!

Check the yellow signal wire for that fan, I believe the yellow is the fan speed ( tach) sent back, and if its reading 0 on the web interface, there is a problem.   Download the newest firmware from bitmain.  I use only the Autofreq one dated November of 2017

ok will do...

so after reboot, the fan #2 says 6000, Fan # 6 says 30,600...

Still mining though up to 15 minutes so far...

Probably will go ahead and try the firmware upgrade...I guess...

On a sidenote, anyone ever find there doing something with these things all of the time..

Of course I got in and paid to much for miners, now everything is down, and consuming quite bit of my time

I was hoping to set them up let me go... at least 4 of the 6 are doing good...

this one and another one that mostly only mines with 2 boards, although occasionally the other board works on a reboot...

Just my luck, but hey I'm here and still mining...

just frustrated, lol

Thanks to all of you for your help!

So here is what is happening now...

Checked the wiring for fans and it was all ok

Rebooted machine setting back to my backup (which undid the fan speed) or at least set it to 80  should it be at 100?

Temps were in 70's and mining at 13.5 for about 5 minutes...

then mining went dead...not mining anything and still fans revving up and down...

show fan 3 at 5,040 and nothing on any of the others...but both fans are running..

I wish I could figure out how to upload the screen shot on here...

Should I try a firmware upgrade?  If so which file for the upgrade...

Machine is an S9 13.5T Serial #YDFT14PAGAJAJ7149 running kernel version 16.8.1.3

Thanks for the help?  One comment was to replace the controller board, which I dont have..

Thank

GH

I have some used S7's that are getting hot and shutting down. I've cleaned them out and upgraded the fans and they run longer, but eventually lose one of the boards. I have to turn down the chip frequency from 700 to 693 and set the fans to 90% minimum and have had no problems. It is hashing at 4.63 ths instead of 4.73 but I have not errors. This at least saved me from losing a board over and over. Also, when this happens, my fans would go up and down as you mentioned. I'm not sure if it's the same issue as you, but you may have to play with the frequency and fan setting, but I would make a change and monitor then make another instead of changing several things at once. Just my thoughts, I hope you figure it out.

Help with fan speed on Antminer S9

I have 4 S9's that run smooth and you hardly ever hear the fans on any of them speed up or slow down.. (some with auot freq, some without)

I have another used S9 miner I am installing, everything is great, except the fan speeds up and slows down every 15 to 20 seconds, slow, fast, slow, fast..

Any thoughts or ideas on why this is happening and what I can do?

There was a post on bitcoin forum about editing the fan speed thru HTML and I tried that...set the fan speed to 70% (according to the kernel) and it is still doing it...

Really, really annoying...  There has to be a workaround somehow...  How can some do it and some not?

Looking for any thoughts or ideas that might help...

Thank You!

Mine On Dude!!

Try to change the controller for a new one, that should solve it.  Smiley

So are all the controller boards for S9's the same?  I see several listed on Ebay...

Is there any difference in the 13.5 board than any others or are they all the same?

Thanks

Hmm another crazy fan story...
Check that the exhaust fan is plugged into the plug closest to the outside of the control board. ( Ie close to the edge of the board)  The intake fan should be the one further IN on the board.  I did that with mine, and the ones that were changing RPM did not do it anymore, well,  on the odd occasion they would.

Air at 20 Deg C expands when heated to the 45 DegC on the way out..... so the exhaust fan speed has to be faster.

Also, undo what ever you did in the config file.  Fan speed has to be controlled by the controller since if it gets hotter, it will have to go faster, if you set a limit of 70% you will probably overheat the thing one day.

Credit Cards denying purchases of the coins themselves
Prices rising on miners/cards
Prices falling rising on coins themselves over the last 2 days.

Gotta HODL on and keep mining away.
FTFY Smiley

That's two days...gotta see a longer trend.   Smiley   I'm comparing those to the miner prices which haven't necessarily dropped in step with the coins.    Otherwise you're exactly right.

I've noticed an increase in trying to trash Bitcoin while trying to promote another coins. Funny how they seem to think Bitcoin is such a failure, yet these other coins or the blockchain is supposedly the "key". There is definitely an attempt to smear Bitcoin and I have no doubt that reason is because it the best chance of surviving the storms, especially the collapse of fiat currency.

If the government can't regulate or stop Bitcoin, what means would they go about acquiring it?

How plausible would it be for the FEDS to buy up Bitcoin as a quantitative easing asset?

They'd take over what they don't own already of Ripple first.  I know it's altcoin talk but that's where they'd go first.

And now Bitcoin has dropped almost 1000 points.

I feel like they would (probably happening already) promote Ripple, but they know it's a company and can't be a threat to fiat currency. I think the unstoppable force would be the bigger threat and they would have to find a way to manipulate instead of trying to kill it.
