Does anyone use any APC surge protection on the miners? Thunderstorm knocked 9 of my miners offline and i'd like to prevent it.

I had this very same question in another thread and it was recommended to be using a surge protector for this very reason. I will be looking into them also.

Ok I’ve read the payout section on the pools website and I know ramp up has been talked about here these last few pages. I’m still having trouble understanding. How do I know when I’m fully ramped up? Is it after 15 days or is there a percentage or something I can look at under my worker? Also if I’m fully ramped up and I add more workers to increase my hash rate. Will they all be ramped up or does each worker I add need to ramp up on there own?

Each worker ramps individually.

Also check the red line in the Shift graph which I believe reflects a close but not exact representation of your ramp.

Also on every block solve your reward will show the ramp level at the time of the block.
My red line is flat.   Huh It says .72av at the end.

How long have you been running here and what is your hashrate?

Only started Jan 20th and my hashrate is 7.5Th/s right now.
Yeah the red line is the full graph (currently about the last 24 days) not the 5Nd.

The last 5Nd reward is highlighted on the graph with a light red background, each time we find a block.

If you look at your last reward on the Rewards page, you can tell how far into the 5Nd you were - it will show a calculated hash rate for the full 5Nd.
So e.g. if you were mining 20THs and the reward shows 10THs then you were 50% into the 5Nd when we found that block.

Ok and that is where it says "Your N Avg"  which in my case was only 549.25 GH/s for this last reward.  Even though my hash rate is 7.5 Th/s . I am only
549.25 Gh/s into my ramp up. Right?

Close, the more hashrate the pool has the faster the 5Nd ramp.  Wink
Mine On!  Cool

Both the miner and the pool. Your ramp up time would be very quick if you brought 20ph/s, for example.

Add 20Ph/s SmileyCheesySmiley Bring it!!

Right? Let me just go forward in time and bring back a 20 PH USB stick.

They say it's just a movie prop but you might be able to get it to work.

When we hit a block, the pool looks back at the last 5*network difficulty (to 10 trillion) shares. We call this ramp up, because if you're new to the pool, the percentage of those last shares that are yours is lower than the percentage of shares that are yours in say the last 1,000,000 shares.

So its the amount of shares your workers put out, relative to the total hash rate of the pool, for the last 5ND  (5 times the network difficulty) shares.

The more hash rate you have, the faster the ramp up time, because you have more shares.

https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node#costs-and-warnings

So I have decided to run a full node to help out the network.
I have about 4 more hours before it is updated (100Mb/s Down 10 Up unlimited).
I have 32GB Ram 2TB HDD 16 Core 3.2GHZ processor Windows 10.
I made the cache 4650MB and set the number of threads at 16.

So,  my questions to the group are:

Are you running a full node?
If so what settings should I use?
If not why?
Any additional considerations?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Mine on!!
I run 2 wallets (mine and the pool - 2 instances) in a single 32GB VM at home set to 8 vCPU (that's effectively 4 core).
That performs fine.
The server the VM runs in is 512GB RAM with 2 Xeon Gold 6148 = 40 cores/80 threads so plenty to spare - that's the pool development server I run at home.
The server and the VMs usually have no internet access (I just open up www temporarily every so often to do linux updates)

The HDD type will decide the performance, but performance doesn't matter too much unless you're running a pool, so standard (cheap) HDD is OK.

Of course, if instead you were running your wallet in it, then you should use RAID1 on the disks that have the wallet and make sure you back it up often, automatically.
However, I'd never suggest to anyone to run a wallet on a windows computer - just way too risky.

I run about 7 full nodes and 13 pruned nodes, of course most of that is the pool Smiley

Duly noted. I wasn't planning on using the wallet, just let core run to help the network.

I have a couple spare DL585s with 4x12 core processors, 256GB RAM and 8 SAS RAID each just sitting in the basement powered off. Might put Ubuntu on one of them and start a node there. Smiley My only spare computers. Smiley

"I run about 7 full nodes and 13 pruned nodes" What's the difference Full vs Pruned? is it in the settings somewhere?

Come to think of it, I wonder how many little VMs with a full node each I could run on those DL585s?
Would that help the BTC network? Wink

U$3,599.00 and olny 11TH/s? With all that talk about difficulty increase, will it ever be profitable?

Cry Cry I lost power to my router yesterday and I was on site so I didn't know until this morning  Cry

Now I have to ramp up again   Undecided

What do you guys use to get notifications on your miners?

Hi,

https://ckpoolmonitor.zachmonroe.com/index.php

and

CKPool app for my android

I use awesome miner because I have a small set up. The amount of notifications you can set and rules you can establish are amazing to me. Overheat protection at a custom temp, warnings at certain temps, reboot commands when certain criteria are met, etc. The list goes on and on. I love it.

The amount you ramped down = the amount you'll have to ramp back up.

i.e. if you were off for 18hrs then (of course) you've only lost 18 hours of mining, so you'll have to ramp back up 18hrs to get back to where you were.
Also note that they are only the same if the pool hash rate is the same - if the hash rate increases then the ramp is shorter (and vice versa)

The ramp is a number of shares, not an amount of time, and that number is 5Nd Smiley
So the time of the ramp is dependent upon the pool hash rate.

... and something I said in IRC yesterday
Quote
... and in case that statement about the ramp getting shorter sounds confusing, don't worry it works out as expected since as the hash rate grows we 'expect' to find more blocks so it all is expected to work out the same
the 5Nd is 'expected' to be 5 blocks - of course luck has a different opinion on that - but that's what's statistically expected Smiley
