December, yes, I've been thinking about that.  Turkey is the predominant fowl eaten at that time, while we all know here that chicken is the magic voodoo. Hmmmm  Roll Eyes

Cheesy  Keep calm and mine on!

I have some chicken that's been marinating almost since the last block was found, guess it's time to throw it on the grill!  Cool

BOOM - just checked while I was typing this and BLOCK! WOOOOO

Indeed, a quick order of magnitude calculation shows an S9 would expect to take over 100 months at current diff...  Shocked
Of course you could get lucky and hit it as soon as you try, or it might go past 500% of expected.

at zero power cost  and at flat diff

if you mine 1 year with an s-9  you should not hit a solo block

if you mine 1 year with an s-9 at a pool you should get  about 1.2 coins

if you mine 10 years with an s-9  you should get 1 solo block say 12.5 coins

if you mine 10 years with a pool you should get  about 12.5 coins

So with normal luck and flat diff a 10 year wait for a block would be normal

but a cold streak like the pool is in over 500%  and you would be longer then 50 years to hit a block.

of course you could hit a solo block in under 1 minute of mining with a s-9 if you are super lucky.

my suggestion to you is mine 2 s-9's  one always here one here six days a week  and 1 day solo

which means 13/14 days on a pool and 1 of 14 solo

Just keep your miners pointed here - best pool out there and only slightly crazy members!

Is it worth it to solo mine? My understanding if you mine solo you get the 12.5 minus fees.

if I am now making 1.2 BTC every 4 month with my current hashpower = 3.6 per year (excluding the diff), will let's say an S9 mining solo find a block and get the 12.5?

if you mine 1 year with an s-9  you should not hit a solo block

I wonder what the record is for the most diff block found by our pool?  Are we anywhere close to it?
443699 - it's still there on the list (i.e. in the last 750) - 744.977%
Part of that dreadful bad luck of December

I'm glad you posted the CDF table...I was thinking about posting it as I was catching up on the weekend's forum posts and saw you already had.  Every needs to realize it is a normal thing that comes around from time to time and not the end of the pool.  Smiley

hello there, just come to say that my Ebit E9 x 2 (each is 6.3TH) and for some that waiting for shipping are Ebit E9Plus x 2 (each is 9TH) are running on your pool to support now
Hopefully with a little luck thrown in Cheesy
Welcome aboard!

Guess I better repeat the usual CDF table ...
Code:
0.39346934028737   50.000%  1 in 1.6
 0.63212055882856  100.000%  1 in 2.7
 0.77686983985157  150.000%  1 in 4.5
 0.86466471676339  200.000%  1 in 7.4
 0.95021293163214  300.000%  1 in 20.1
 0.98168436111127  400.000%  1 in 54.6
 0.99326205300091  500.000%  1 in 148.4
 0.99752124782333  600.000%  1 in 403.4
 0.99872735771441  666.666%  1 in 785.8
 0.99908811803445  700.000%  1 in 1096.6
 0.99966453737210  800.000%  1 in 2981.0
 0.99987659019591  900.000%  1 in 8103.1

So, over a long period of time, the average number of blocks over 600% is ... 1 in 403.3
i.e. every pool is expected to get, on average, one block over 600% per 403 blocks ...
Lets hope we don't get to 600% Smiley

Edit: and for any who it doesn't quite sink in what those numbers mean, they also apply to the whole bitcoin network.

e.g. a block that went by 45 minutes ago: 480482
It was 65minutes and 57seconds after: 480481

A standard network block, if the network isn't growing, is 10 minutes or 600 seconds.
That 65minutes 57seconds ... if the network wasn't growing ... would be 3957 seconds - so divided by 600: 3957 / 600 = 6.595 or a 659.5% block

Yep even network blocks follow the CDF distribution.

Of course, that figure is probably an under estimate of the %, coz the current network is probably growing, so blocks are expected to be less than 600 seconds if it's growing, so the 480482 % would be even higher!

Kano - have you got a cat or a 2 year old?  Maybe they been playing with the "block" switch.

Wowee - this is getting a bit serious.
