There is a new version on github including leveldb: https://github.com/coinerd/krugercoin/releases
Tested on Windows and Linux. I will try compiling it on Mac when I have some spare time. Probably at the end of next week.
Also I'm uploading the bootstrap.dat to mega right now. It will be avalable at https://mega.co.nz/#F!NdRG2SST!62sXZTVsmPkvwjd7dZGsCQ once it is finished (in about an hour).

I'd be happy to receive any feedback.

Maybe you should start a new thread as the dev was last active on April 07, 2014.

Any nodes for this coin?

I'll see if I can find some for you. The big old girl is taking a while to load the block index (over 6 minutes so far)

edit: loading block index took just over 15 minutes (!!! on a 4 core i5!) but unfortunately it's not able to connect to any nodes it currently knows about. Will have to dig out historical IPs, and restart (another 15 mins), letting it sift through mostly abandoned client IPs, so this is going to take a while.

It's not dead by any means, but the dev is MIA, and the client badly needs to be updated to use a newer db. I keep the majority of my coin clients running 24/7 on a dedicated server, but Krugercoin is one of the few exceptions... it hogs far too much CPU. It's fine if you're a "consumer" and just start your client occasionally, but consider how long this coin will last on an exchange when the client has to run 24/7 and is consistently consuming 20%+ CPU. It's getting worse as the blockchain grows.

At the very least the client would need to be updated to use leveldb, and possibly also change to longer block periods (with a corresponding increase in reward to compensate) to stop the chain growing so fast.

The Krugercoin wallet completely synced for me, then I went ahead and sent a transaction to the Cryptsy exchange. Everything still works as expected, just because a coin doesn't get very many posts on this "Bitcoin" forum, does not necessarily mean it is 'dead'.

Are all the KGC Pools now dead? Is this coin still going? I can still solo mine, but not as effective as a couple of weeks ago.

poolwarz does krugercoin but the website is still in beta. The coin is still going.

That would explain the situation.
But why would somebody create a fork and Maske an pool available on it in first place?

I doubt a pool would deliberately create their own fork, but if you have issues it can be surprisingly easy to inadvertently create a fork. If you manage to mine a few blocks while you're not connected to the rest of the network, and stay disconnected for more than a couple of hours, your client will refuse to recognise the main chain once reconnected.

Could even be as simple as the pool operator having a separate wallet for the pool and himself, he was mining KGC, and his internet link died for a couple of hours. Fork time.

Does look like a fork, if you compare http://ispace.co.uk/coindetails/?coin=kgc to your wallet they're (currently) a few thousand blocks behind.

It's possible you are being paid out on the forked chain, but of course you'll never see the funds.

Bear in mind you haven't really "lost" those coins, because if you were on the correct chain the difficulty would have been much higher and you would have mined less. But yes, you have probably wasted hashing power.

Not a big loss... I've just thrown the consolidated hashpower of a Fury against it. >;-)
Still i lost a few hundred coins...   :-(

Update:
Not even sure this pool is mining Krugercoins at all...
The actual diff my wallet reports is: 0.200216 vs 0.00883861 shown in the block reports of that pool....

So it looks the missuse our hashing power for some pre-mine or whatever :-(

could be forked as well.

This has been reported before for many other coins these guys offer and I always ask, why do you think a mining pool would offer 0%... well... now you know.

debug.log also has multiple instances of "Db::put: Cannot allocate memory"

Never seen these errors before, with any coin. Maybe a sign of things to come...

this coin was a huge hog on resources, CPU and memory. I likley used up all of your memory.
