I would also be looking for kits, initially probably 20 x K1`s and a few K16`s to see how I get on. I will probably get most of my chips assembled by a third party to get mining quick then play with some K1`s, if a K16 works well I shall do all my own from kits with future chip orders.

I'm sure there are many who are toying with the idea to DIY the assembly of the K16 or K1, but considering there we are at least few weeks (and maybe more) far from batch chip delivery, I don't think you should waist your time right now on that, there will be plenty of time for that later. It look's to me that getting the prototypes functional is of the highest priority.

Now, back on topic.

I've added a "K16 Assembly Drawing.pdf" (and K1 similar) to the docs directory that shows components reference labels that otherwise seem impossible to fish out of Kicad. This was not so easy as clicking "print" unfortunately due to odd shortcomings and bugs in Kicad. For one, the silkscreen output from Kicad does not include component references even when chosen explicitly. Investigating in the brd file itself I see that component text is on layer 26 not layer 21 as expected. This is an additional drawing layer (ECCO) that Kicad provides no way to include in plot output as far as I can tell. But it does allow printing this text if made visible and done with the File,Print rather than File,Plot.

The catch is that it appears to be buggy when choosing options other than the most basic (obviously not well tested). So I wanted a 2x scale output, and printing to file for postscript causes partial page cutoff. So inspecting the output I had to manually add some postscript commands including a translate to bring it back within the print area. Once done it showed up ok, and a simple run through ghostscript to convert to PDF format. Sigh. Another example of Kicad idiocy is that the K16 only has component references but K1 has the values too, even though they don't show on screen, and I can't remove them.

This was my fist attempt at trying to put together some material I can use for assembly when I pick up the K16 boards, more parts and samples in a couple days.

I was planning to use this later with other material to make a more extensive assembly document for kits. But now I'm not sure if many are actually going to make K16s from kit. Perhaps I could get a show of hands from those who think they would actually buy a kit or board that would require assembly docs?

(I'm not talking about production which requires files for PnP machines)

I added some more to the cgminer driver. Not any real meat yet, just structure I'll need to fill in once I figure out what cgminer expects it to do for multiple chained devices.

Just received my TL-WR703N this is awesome for the price don't know if I will us it or PI to run my k16's.

One of my ideas that I hope to explore later: use it as QuadCopter engine so that via Wifi and USB camera, you can control flight with your Android tablet. Even if it meant removing the AR9331 and implementing a dedicated PCB controller with Gyros etc.

But that's a whole 'nother topic I don't have time for right now.

I know this is sorta OT, but I read reports that installing openWRT on WR703N units with firmware later than I think v1.6 would brick them. Does anyone know if this is true? I've got a WR703N and a Pi in my cart on amazon, but I'm waiting to pull the trigger.

The QuadCopter project sounds awesome, btw.
Mine was 3.14.5 Build 130318 rel,6432ln. Came up on IP address 1.0.232.194 for some reason.
I flashed it with  openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-factory.bin. Its working great.
Can't believe I didn't get 1 or 2 earlier to play with. Sorry for being some what OT.

Good point. Some spacing on the top and bottom would be needed. Or maybe a slot in the plexiglass?

Also you wouldn't use plexiglass that close to electronic components, as it has a strong static charge, use  something that's known to have a low static charge or anti-static coating.

can we get a center to center measurement for the mounts holes, as i can slowly start making a case. and will it use standard hole for motherboard standoffs?

Yes, I think that will be fine. I had originally sourced the other as a lower cost local part but then it went out of stock just when I needed it. The part I have now instead is,

Murata  GRM21BR61E106KA73L

which is much the same as your AVX but a bit cheaper. I should update the parts list as maybe Walsin parts are harder to find.
