Very clickbait-ish title and news. This FUD was very short and the price recovered very quickly - South Koreans are just protecting themselves from possible national ICO scams. Foreign projects and investments are not affected by this at all.

What it says is "Korea will ban any kind of ICO." It is official from the Government.

Recall what happened when China banned all the ICO.

Not just Korea the trend is being followed by other Asian Countries too ! India is next in the line to do it and mostly all the ICO scammers from India will have a hard time coming clean. It's a good news in a way.I totally support the moment to put a ban on ICO scammers.

Its only a matter of time before other governments try and ban ICO's and crypto trading since it's messing wth the countries FIAT. The best that can happen in a few years is that their gonna try and control the movements, the US government is actually going to get on that in 2018.

yes, i agree. It's because all of us know that ICO now is on its hot issue. Many countries also follow this ICO. Especially the trend is increasing.

is that news really from the korea government? because if its true, i think korea government will doing the same like what china did. they don't want their citizen to be scam by fake ico and i think its natural if they concern with their citizen. i think the other country will do the same because protecting their people from scamming especially in the internet is also their important job. maybe there will be regulations that can control ico first so their people can safe if they want to invest in the ico.

This is just a sequel with the recent drama with china. Yes, the price would drop but it is only momentarily and would rise again after some time like how ethereum reached as low as $230 after the ban in china and now it reached $290.

Indeed, the tittle said; Financial Authority "Prohibition of Funding through Foreign Currencies (ICO)
Actually, it will not be the same as China ban ICO, as Korean really support cryptocurrency and has issued regulations about bitcoin and exchanges.
Most countries still allow ICO, and government just trying to protect investors as precaution act from scammers or fraud activities.
Strict regulations will ensure every company or project which intend to collect funds from investors have to fill few documents to make sure they are legit and meet the requirements.

One by one all the countries will be banning/regulating ICOs. I think regulation is ultimately a good thing and sometime in the future they will all be regulated, but until then it's going to be a rocky road for ICOs. Not a good coin to buy if a person can't handle all the huge swings in price.

Perhaps this is an attempt by the Korean Government to reduce or overcome some fake ICO.
But I do not expect the government to ban all ICO projects because it will be bad for us all.  Grin

Well it seems the FOMO community is resilient and will assume the authorities are impotent until and if the authorities can actually enforce delistings and such…

…or are we just in a deadcat bounce?

Seems the ICOs such as NEO are getting very strong recoveries, so perhaps the FOMO market is going to stick out their middle finger to the regulators and dare them to actually delist tokens in many major nations. Perhaps the party won’t be over until the fat lady sings?

I guess we will find out how significant tax avoiding cash markets are if authorities delist and make illegal the trading of unregistered securities (i.e. ICO issued tokens that were not registered).

Personally I am not against the rise of decentralization. I am just trying to be pragmatic and understand implications and how to best position for the outcome.

So far its not the same scenarion jus rlike when China announced they will ban all ico prices of all the coins are not dropping dramatically it just mean people will not be swayed to sell or dump their stakes because they knew it will just comes to pass and bitcoin will become a strong coin .

No one care, Korean and Chinese volumes are fake and it not going to change much, price wise.

I too do not care but let's not forget that china is one of the major miners in blockchain in which why the price went down extremely. I know that now is different because it is slowly rising to 4k China's lose in btc is still a big rollback in the history of blockchain. But btc is gaining better supporters and we small traders dont really feel the change but for millionaires who invested in btc, they must've had issues to deal.

All these ban and rumor craps out of China and Korea and the price of Bitcoin don't change much, still around $4200 when real high is $4700 to $4800. The China and Chinese/miners or Korean people need Bitcoin, not the other way around.
that's right haha, the price didn't change so much, people just don't give a shit to these two countries because i guess that they have no more dominance in bitcoin supply share. all money have transferred to bitcoin friendly countries, so basically, korean right now releasing regulation for nothing.

Yes, I see again and again most people already know these countries China and Korea creating fake volumes nonstop, the people themselft don't have much coins. Remember when 90% Bitcoin volumes is out of China but when these so call exchanges impose fees it down to less than 10%? LOL. Again and again still only a few Chinese or Korean whales really creating all these hypes and fake volumes, in reality not much Chinese or Korean really have much money in crypto. So, the fake volumes do nothing.

Nbody is banning anything. They are just regulating it. Manipulators are blowing it out of proportion to lower price before it moons next month.

Exactly this, not banning but regulating. And of course manipulators are spreading too much FUD so they can buy cheap coins, same as those Wall Street people which spread FUD on BTC. I read somewhere, some months ago something like "when real money will come in crypto, someone's gonna get hurt". True, if financial manipulators = real money
Learning from chinese when they banning ICO after few weeks the bitcoin price recover. And if another countries follow to banning ICO maybe this is his strategy to buy cheap coins. Bitcoin is strong the proof is value keep soaring.

It seems to be true and this a bad call for us.
South Korea's financial regulator has prohibited domestic companies and startups from participating in initial coin offerings (ICOs).

Following a meeting to discuss cryptocurrency controls today, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) said it will prohibit all forms of the blockchain funding method "regardless of technical terminology," while margin trading of virtual currencies will also be illegal following the ruling.

Token offerings, a type of fundraising method that has gained popularity in recent months, are overly speculative and constitute a "violation of the capital market law," the FSC states. An "intensive crackdown" will ensue, with "stern penalties" issued on parties involved in ICO offerings.(C)

They will ban local icos not that their citizens can't participate.  The moment it's regulated then the local icos will be given permission to do icos
