Lucky escape for Barcelona, I thought they'd get disqualified, I'm happy as a Barcelona fan though.
I remember vividly that Real Madrid got disqualified for the exact same reason in 2015 when fielded ineligible Denis Cheryshev.
I'm also happy as fan of Barca, but I find this situation very strange..
Real situation wasn't exactly same, because Cheryshev was player of main team. I'm not expert, but from what I read it looks that reserve team players have different status than main team players and it was used as excuse by Barca. But Real had same story like Barca in 2016 with reserve team player Alvaro Tejero and they also faced no sanctions.

Quite unexpected result today - Getafe just smashed Deportivo Alaves 4:0. Alaves playing really poor in recent weeks, I highly doubt that they will remain in Europa league spots for long.

I read somewhere about Barcelona possibility to be eliminated for fielding an ineligible player, I'm waiting to how this would turn out.

Barcelona B defender Chumi, who played the first 58 minutes of the first leg, should have been suspended after picking up a fifth booking in the Segunda Division B.

The Catalans argued that they believed the suspension was only valid for league games, a posture later denied by the RFEF.
Complaint from Levante has been rejected by federation already, as it's arrived too late:
http://www.rfef.es/noticias/oficial-competicion-considera-que-denuncia-del-levante-llego-fuera-plazo
It's not clear situation - Barca says that Chumi was eligible to play because rules were changed in November, others saying that he wsnt allowed to play.
It's interesting that few years ago Real Madrdi did exact same thing and they weren't punished:
https://en.as.com/en/2019/01/18/football/1547805450_928346.html
And another thing - Levante player Postigo got red card in league game against Girona, but he played in first leg of cup against Barca - why nobody talking about it?

Today was the draw for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey:

Real Madrid - Girona
Getafe - Valencia
Sevilla - Barcelona
Espanyol - Betis

Tough week for Sevilla, they're playing against Real Madrid in the league tomorrow, and 4 days later, against Barcelona.

They got out of this ok (unfair if you ask me, they should be dqed).
It's confirmed that they'll play Sevilla in the next round :

Real Madrid are pathetic without Ronaldo. I guess it is the football God’s playing their part, you can’t have everything nice in life forever. You must experience sadness at some point. The same as Man Utd after Ferguson retires — misery.
I think it would be a disaster for Real Madrid if they are not able to qualify for the Uefa Champions League next season, Real Madrid have lost their last match to Real Sociedad at the stadium of Santiago Bernabeu, I think Real Madrid is truly making a big mistake when they sold Cristiano Ronaldo away to Juventus, it is also pretty strange to see other famous football stars who are playing in Real Madrid unable to perform without Cristiano Ronaldo leading the team in front.

I think that the situation is going to be reversed in the near future and Real Madrid will manage to qualify to the Uefa Champions League. It is sad to see top class players underperforming after Ronaldo left the club as the squad was built based on his playstyle. The coach should find a new leader that is going to take the goal chances in difficult matches and under pressure if they want to get positive results.

I was just checking the real Madrid game with Leganes, never heard of them before and I saw real Madrid lost to them somehow. No bale, no Kroos, no Courtois, no Asensio, no Benzema, no Llorente, no Vallejo. I mean at what point is it still "real Madrid" and not "real Madrid bench"?
Real Madrid won 3-0 in the first leg which was more than enough to qualify, the team took advantage of that result and decided to use the bench players to rest the first team players, also, most of the players that you mention were injured so...

It looks strange to see Getafe and Alaves fighting for Europa League and Champions League places in La Liga. I am not a regular fan of La Liga but I know that these teams were in Spain Segunda a few years ago, that is why it looks strange to me that these teams are fighting for a Europe place this year.
It's really strange things happens in La Liga this season. Teams like Getafe or Alaves don't anything special in their sauads, but they showvsurprising results. While strong clubs like Athletic, Villarreal, Celta are in mid table or in relegation zone. But everything can happen in remaining part of season. Teams which now in 16 or 17 still can fight for Europa league spots because they only 6-7 points behind it and ghey have more deep squads than Getafe or Alaves.
@upsidedown75, I don't understand why you're surprised about their loss. Real won first leg 3:0, so it was good chance for some young players, especially when there are many key players injured. Real had already many shameful  defeats this season, but this loss doesn't really matters.

They had their defense at Varane  which is still awesome and probably the best player right now in the team but aside from that they only had Isco, that's it, three players worth of the jersey and bench players. I mean I hope they will figure out a way to dig themselves out of this pit they are in and they already moved to next stage since they won 3-0 at home so this loss didn't mean anything but the reputation is dropping as well, I know its just one season and these huge teams always recover but this is Madrid we are talking about, they should not suck so much. Anyone who bet on Madrid to win this game, I am sorry for your loss, you didn't deserve it.

Yes, the standings looks completely odd from what it used to look like Athletic Bilbao, Celta vigo, and Villarreal are all in the bottom six trying to avoid relegation. Alaves mostly has been a big revelation this season and could eventually secure at least the Europa league spot.

Too much happened too fast for Real. Losing their best player, not being able to replace him with an offensive leader (Bale is not that !), losing a coach that was respected by the whole locker room, not getting the results they were expecting from players who should have grown with Ronaldo's departure (Asensio, Benzema, Bale, Isco...).
They sure have the potential but they need a major star, a real leader and a better coach.
Neymar is not what they need. Actually, I don't see anyone right now that could have the impact Ronaldo had. I'm guessing a few years of transition are coming for Real.

I do not know the exact reason Zidane chose to leave Real Madrid even though until now he has not coached any team.

I think the team needs a lot of chances, starting from the president, Florentino Perez, he needs to go, along with some players that are obviously past their prime like Marcelo or Benzema.

I disagree on the part of the president because nobody can ran Real Madrid better than him in this current generation and i don't think his absence will do the team any good. The team in general needs complete overhauling together with the coaching staff, players like Karim Benzema should be sold or loaned away from the club in order to allow some young players the chance to play up there.

I’ll second that no one is better than Perez to run a club like Real Madrid, I’ll agree he’s impatient at times but that attitude is what has delivered trophies for the club. I’ll also disagree with the fact that he saw a debacle coming and left, it was due to lack of support from Perez over Bale issue which forced him to end his time at the club. I was surprised Benzema has lasted till now, half of their squad needs to be resold and they need someone like Neymar to get back their glory days.

I think he left because he saw this debacle coming. A lot of people seem to forget that this team has been shit since last season, especially in the league, the only difference is that Ronaldo always showed up at the right time to save day and score decisive goals but you could still see that the overall performance of the team was starting to decline.

Real has nothing to worry about they are just couple points behind champions league level.

They were much much worse at the start of the season but they are doing better now. One loss means nothing when there is still 15+ games to be played. I think the bigger problem is all coaches that had talks with real Madrid wanted to get a center back and wanted to bench Ramos for some reason, not because Ramos is a bad player, who can you buy that is better than Ramos?

It would be really difficult to bag someone like Dijk or similar levels so it must mean Ramos has been a cancer locker room guy, these dudes must be ganging up on the managers and making the life much harder for them. If any new manager comes to real Madrid and benches Ramos there would be a riot in the team which it shouldn't because a manager can bench anyone they want.

As long as real Madrid doesn't get rid of this issue and fix the players not ganging up together they will face with horrible future results and can say goodbye to winning the league for years until its resolved.

I think it would be a disaster for Real Madrid if they are not able to qualify for the Uefa Champions League next season, Real Madrid have lost their last match to Real Sociedad at the stadium of Santiago Bernabeu

Looking at how poor they have been performing and if it should continue further, Failing to qualify for the next Champions league would be a total possibility but let's just hope it doesn't  all come down to that and there's just only 5 points separating Real Madrid from the 2nd spot, I expect them to still be in title race as well and Except for the underdogs such as Alaves, Real betis and Getafe who had performed beyond expectations in the first half of the season, no team in La liga has been spectacularly brilliant this season.
Indeed the UCL spot competition is still tight, and the league still a long way to go. But if Real Madrid doesn't make a significant improvement, it will increase the chance they will miss the spot. Real Madrid needs to turnaround their performance and figures out a way to fix Ronaldo and Zidane leaving.

It is undeniable that Ronaldo's contribution to Real Madrid is huge, a lot of new history is recorded by Real Madrid when Ronaldo is still in Real Madrid's uniform like winning UCL three times in a row. But now, we can see now in every match of Real Madrid without Ronaldo, there seems to be something missing. In other hand, there are other factors which in my opinion Real Madrid different from the previous season, the coach factor is very decisive in every match. I do not know the exact reason Zidane chose to leave Real Madrid even though until now he has not coached any team.
