It´s pretty much a forced line and theory.
I couldn't find any alternatives where we would come out ahead on the exchanges.
Black sacrifices a pawn for a lead in development. He gets initiative. It´s kind of double-edged for both sides which is why it often leads to enjoyable games. Which is good because truth to be told most chess games are pretty boring affairs.
Makes sense, it does seem like the possibilities are getting close to being all mapped out taking the uncertainly away. Seems like it's more of a learn all the moves and counters rather than make them up. Maybe time to add a piece to the game!
