Here's another one to add to your list. Sent maximum merit to two users for no discernible reason.

It would have been abusing if I left 70 merit from killyou72 onto killyou73

Especially given that you can only give 50 merit to an individual  Tongue

Is that true? I thought you could only give 50 PER POST.

Killyou, you can only give one person 50 merits per month.

Yikes... is it just me or does the merit system seem like it might worsen the account-farming problem even further.

I don't think it will. The existing accounts wishing to create/farm alt accounts will have to burn a lot of their sMerits just to get their new account to a Member level. The cost is clearly not worth the benefit.

This merit system will help Newbies and the rest of us learn what the community feels is a merit-worthy contribution. This is going to be a great thing!

Interestingly, since bluefircorp has posted the Merits summary for Killyou72 you'll notice that Killyou72 has received Merits from Killyou73.

Aren't Killyou72 and Killyou73 alts for the same person? If so, Killyou has abused the Merit system.

I wanted to see how it worked, didn't understand the way it was written.

It would have been abusing if I left 70 merit from killyou72 onto killyou73

That's a plausible explanation, but why did you leave yourself 6 merit instead of just 1 for the test?

I don't think this needs to go further. I think it's valuable to be acknowledging where people are clearly abusing the system. What we should also be focused on is keeping this thread from becoming a witch hunt.

We shouldn't be hunting for people that might be abusing, we should be publicly outing people that clearly are abusing, repeatedly.

Because of the whole half merit thing, initially I thought that when you gave merit you lost it, and that I could just delete my post and the merit would go away, or I could remove it like trust. Maybe that feature will be added.

Its really easy to find the merit farmers just look at the recent merit given

I don't see myself randomly meriting posts, even if they are helpful. So account farmers would have a much easier time gaining merit on their accounts than regular users...

Is there something in place to show where a user sends merit too? I do not think so yet,
Yeah. Just found it myself; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=408367

replace the u= with the actual user id that you want to track.

Tagged. You should watch this user, i.e. where exactly he is going to send his sMerit to.

Yeah. Just found it myself; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=408367

replace the u= with the actual user id that you want to track.

You can also click their username on a post [or go to their profile page] and the merit title has a hyperlink that takes you there.

Also, with breaking up the quote, you copy the bit of code at the top and end each section of the quote with [ / quote ]. I think that's the only way to do it.

^Does that message really deserve 41 merit?
Theymos just announced the new function about Merit points and he got a lot of sMerits so why not ? What is the point ?

The point is that it looks a bit fishy that someone has gained merits for fairly normal posts. Merits for posts that are very useful, helpful or good quality. Not post that other users probably have also made to a similar quality before (especially anything above 10 to give for a single post).

It does seem very quickly that people have started to abuse the system already.

Posted Today at 09:29:29 PM, merit sent Today at 09:30:12 PM: 4 to long8899 for Re: Anti-spam Merit Giveaway

There is no possible way for Durr_1412 to read whole topic, read long8899's post and send him merit in only 43 seconds unless...

If you look at post history of both accounts you will see that both users have identical writing style, both of them sent merit to each other and both are in the same signature campaign.

But don't listen to my weird logic and jumping to conclusions.

Exchanging Merits. Possible alt accounts. Their way of typing, and most of their posts in the Altcoin section, along with the fact of Meriting each others shit posts definitely indicate that either the accounts are being operated by the same person, or they have discussed to exchange Merits. In both ways, I believe they are abusing the system.
