I'll tell him that you guys miss him. His new name is Dank. LOL
This new paid signature campaign you've signed up for is enticing.
It seems designed well, with attractive colors, and will surely help to lower ad costs for the gambling ad sellers through the perversity effect of counter cultural memetics.
Those ad guys are wicked smart.  They know how many of us believe the opposite of whatever is advertised.  Now they have all the sides covered.

If you can't beat em' - join em'.  LOL

Looks like you never sold it ? lol

Or it has been sold and resold many times, as its value steadily increased?

I never would have believed it to be that popular or lucrative for some. I guess that means I can ignore the posts of about half of the posters on this forum because they're saying just anything for the post money. I've already noticed a decrease in the number of people I used to know here. They're being replaced by campaigners here for a quick buck that don't really care about Bitcoin at all. This forum is a shell of its former self.

Isn't anyone in power concerned that this practice makes Reddit more valuable for real information?

The rumor's of CryptoCrypt.org's invite only and more private and functional forum are true.  Not only does it curate the best of Reddit and news, it serves as an alternative to BCT for high value conversations,.  It is a troll free zone without signature advertising and also prohibiting ad homonym by social convention and banhammering.  It seems to have cultivated a valuable population.  It is sort of what BCT is hoping to accomplish with forum software updates, but with a somewhat more elite userbase.

Some have simply shifted discussions to there.

Yeah, I got an invite to Goats site and went there a few times. I was surprised at the supposedly "important" old time BCT members that were there (unless they faked the names to join like I did - lol). They don't have much traffic and the discussions reminded me of a snobatorium where people spend their time trying to impress everyone with their vast crypto power knowledge. They love the alts too and I can barely say Doh-sche-coin without bursting into wild laughter.

If they leave because they can't make money posting then they never really cared about Bitcoin anyway. These people wouldn't care if this was an auto parts forum. They would just run around and post about alternators. I can see only one good reason to allow it. The increased site traffic from these people makes the forums advertisement space more valuable.

I don't care about those that are here only for the "free" BTC, but there are quite a few users with ad signatures whose posts aren't spammy.

I'm not so sure. Bitcoin companies can promote their services by winning forum ad slot auctions and by paying people to post with ads in their signatures. Without signature advertising they will only be left with forum ads, which would drive the prices up.

Yeah, I guess there's a few. It doesn't really matter to me. I don't even mind the +1 or lol posts like other people do. It's not like they kill anyone being there. Sometimes a person just wants to show support and approval for a post. I keep signatures and ads disabled anyway. I should probably turn on signatures as a kind of automatic ignore feature though.

Driving the prices up would be good for the forum revenue and it would get rid of spammers. It's kind of a win for you as a mod. You might get a little boost in the ad money split. On the other hand, if site traffic was down would the advertisers still want to be here? It's hard to say what's right.

We're thinking about the issue, and a lot of those ad signature spammers eventually get tempbanned (or permabanned), but we haven't yet decided what/if should be done to prevent the lowering of the quality of discourse without taking too much of peoples' freedom away. After all, signature advertising is also a great and simple way for newbies to earn and learn about Bitcoin first-handedly.

As for Reddit... it is not a bad place for news and circle-jerking, but it is unsuitable for longer and intelligent discussions.

I'm not really in favor of censoring but people don't need a signature to post. If they leave because they can't make money posting then they never really cared about Bitcoin anyway. I agree with you about Reddit. It's completely worthless for extended conversations.

Thanks for the detailed answer. That would never be worth it for me. Kluge auctioned his signature for (at current price) $135 earned over a 6 month period. I'm retired now but when I worked I made more than that in the typical morning, afternoons were better. I suppose if you're a kid looking for a way to make some cash with no other way available it could get you some beer money. If you have the ability to work a part time job then the time involved posting that much for beer money wouldn't be worth the effort.

Plenty of people in 3rd world and former 2nd world countries would be happy to earn extra money in such a relatively effortless way. I live in an OECD country and yet I can find quite a few compatriots, some of them in their 30s, that can make a living from participating in ad signature campaigns.
