How did this unemployed person got addicted to gambling in the first place?
~snip~

I would think that many unemployed people turn to gambling as a way to make money, as they don't have it.

Not saying it's the best way to do it, but many do.

They will use some or all of their savings and try their luck at the casino, most of the time of course they simply end up losing it all.

That's right, unemployed people want to make money from gambling. Everyone thinks that gambling is the fastest way to make money without affecting any factors. If they commit theft, robbery is also a way to make money quickly, but if they take too much risk, the law will punish them. Making money from gambling will not be monitored by the law.
But they are wrong, and gambling is not a job for them to make money. They will increasingly burn all their savings on gambling, and gambling addiction will make them worse than when they are unemployed. The percentage of winners in gambling is tiny. Only lucky people get rewards in this game.

But that is a wrong thought, if gambling can make you rich quickly, it will definitely be done by everyone without exception, and as far as I know gambling also does not guarantee that it will provide a win that will make you rich, 99% of people who gamble find it difficult to win, and only 1% of people who manage to get a win that makes them rich. They can even do what you said like robbing or theft, to get money and return to gambling and that is also a dangerous impact of gambling addiction even though it is at great risk.
If they make gambling their main income it will only make them suffer more in the future, there will be dangerous problems that will harm themselves. as you said, they can even spend their savings that have been saved for a long time to gamble. and that is a bodh action, with the aim of doubling money by gambling that is not clear that it will give a big win, after all, if it is like that there will be no end until they realize for themselves that what they are doing is wrong.

One of the solutions which is recommended by most gamblers on this forum for gambling addiction is "Therapy" . Professional help in the form of therapy. It is good and very effective but how many persons can actually afford it? There is a fee for each session that lasts for a duration of 60minutes. And there are more than one session. Therapy for gambling addiction is expensive. How can those who are unemployed afford it? How about the college student? Or the person receiving minimum wage. What are the other low cost but very effective solutions to gambling addiction. And typically how long will it take before the addict starts to feel more in control and less withdrawal symptoms?
Will totally appreciate your responses. Thanks.
The best therapy is your admitting of what and how you gamble , because no matter what people wanted to do helping you but first you need to help yourself .
this is what gambling addiction hard to beat because we don't know what is the source and that is admittance .
if only the said gambler are willing to be helped ? surely his family are enough to make it through the gambling addiction .

Yeah.. it can be challenging for the people who are struggling with gambling addiction to recognize their own condition. Denial is a common defense mechanism that allows them to maintain a sense of normalcy and avoid confronting the negative consequences of their behavior. The presence of supportive people who can identify and address gambling behaviors is crucial in helping addicted people recognize and address their problem.

These people often provide a reality check, helping the gambler to see the impact of their actions and the need for change. The support of others can play a impactful role in helping gamblers break free from addiction. By providing encouragement and guidance, loved ones can empower the gambler to take the necessary steps towards recovery. With the support of others and a commitment to change, gamblers can reclaim their lives and build a healthier future.
That is why people who experience gambling addiction must be willing to try to be open to the presence of other people so that they can help to solve it or at least find a solution for them. Keeping things to yourself is not good for their health, especially if there are no changes for the better and it will only make things worse. By saying or telling it to other people, it can help them to reduce stress and frustration in their minds while looking for a solution. The people around him will also help him overcome the problem of gambling behavior and also help cure his gambling addiction.

Support from other people can provide encouragement for addicts so that they will see that they are not struggling alone but that there is their family or people around them who are also helping them undergo healing therapy. It can also give the person addicted to gambling confidence that he still has a place in his community and that those out there are still waiting for him to return. The recovery process may not take too long because of encouragement and help from people who care about him so that he can remain enthusiastic about undergoing therapy to cure his gambling addiction.

The gambler who get addicted to the gambling sites should do the vacation for the short period,if he choose the budget friendly vacation it will be more important for the gambler at the time of loss in the gambling. Some gambler uses the psycology for the gambling addiction and it may be bring by their family members to help them to get away from the gambling addiction. The gambling will give the thrill and the fun. This was the root cause for the gambler to get addicted to the gambling sites after the play of few games for two or three days to the gambling sites. The gambling sites will give the profit, but the gambler was not cash out after the big win from the gambling sites. He keep play of the game,So to get all the old loss in the gambling sites in the time he had good luck to target the loss.
Yes, maybe a vacation can relieve the stress that disturbs the minds of gambling addict, but usually they can't just get away with the games they play in casinos. They continue to do these activities even though they are on vacation, unless they are on vacation to a place where there is no signal, they can definitely stop his gambling for a moment at least for some to relax and think healthily about the excessive gambling he did.

Gambling can indeed provide pleasure if we can use it wisely without expecting to win, so we won't experience gambling addiction and we can enjoying the types of games available in casinos without having to go on holiday to tourist attractions, if we can enjoying gambling it's like feel the sensation of pleasant entertainment in between times that make you tired.
It all matters with self control and mind control. If you do let yourself that always be thinking about with those casino games then you wont really be able to quit up gambling completely.
As long you do have that kind of thinking then there's no way that you could quit gambling and this is something that you should really be needing to control. You wont really be
needing any professional help or advises if you are really just that willingly to quit on it because if not then it would be pointless on whatever you do since you would really be
coming back again and again. Therefore, they key would really be that always vary or depend on how you would really gonna make yourself having that kind of motive
and seriousness on quitting which it wont be hard if you have that kind of intent.

How did this unemployed person got addicted to gambling in the first place?

Is it that hard to think of ways in which unemployed people become gamblers? Teenagers are usually unemployed and many are already gambling addicts. You don't need a stable income to be able to bet. A great example of this is bitcointalk with its campaigns. You can be unemployed and still get $200 a month from the forum. You can be a trader, you can be getting allowance from your parents, students get scholarships, I know a guy who gambled away some of his student loan...

The gambler who get addicted to the gambling sites should do the vacation for the short period,if he choose the budget friendly vacation it will be more important for the gambler at the time of loss in the gambling.

That would have to be a survival camp in the woods so that he has no Internet and no cell phone reception, otherwise he'll find a way to gamble.

Yes, recognizing gambling addiction is difficult and painful. Denial? The terrible realities of addiction are hidden in a dense fog. Whats key? Systems of support. Essential, not just beneficial. Think about it: a caring reality check can change everything. Like turning on a light in a gloomy room. But when done safely, entertaining gambling may be fun and thrilling. How? Promoting self-control and attentiveness. Consider a world where gambling is both fun and self-disciplined. This might make gambling part of a balanced existence. Lets remember the fun and excitement of responsible gambling while discussing addiction. Its about balancing risks and rewards.

Unfortunately, gamblers who are already addicted to gambling will not easily realize that they are addicted to gambling unless someone else tells them. They will continue to gamble as usual, or maybe they will gamble more often until they experience even bigger losses. Those who have people around them who are aware of changes in themselves and are willing to tell them that they have a gambling addiction are truly lucky and should be grateful. The people around them can start helping the gambler to get out of his gambling addiction and start stopping his gambling activities before it is really too late. And if they can stop gambling, it will be better for them because they can leave gambling for good.

Those will be tough days for a gambling addict because he has to go through all the healing processes. But if he has acknowledged and accepted his condition of being a gambling addict from the start, that means he is ready to accept everything that he will go through. That is the consequence of what he has to do as a result of being addicted to gambling. And the rehabilitation process must be carried out well so that it can produce the results he wants. Therefore, if in the healing process, there is a family who continues to support him, the gambling addict will not feel heavy and can even feel the love of his family who does not abandon him who is undergoing healing therapy. This will make him enthusiastic because he will see that his family has not abandoned him but has remained with him while he is undergoing therapy.
Those which have fallen prey of any addiction need to realize that just as it took them months or even years for their addiction to develop, it will also take them a lot of time for them to overcome their addiction and they may need several tries for this to happen.

And I mention this because there are some of those addicts that have fantastic ideas about a fast recovery happening to them and everything going back to normal, something that is not really possible as even if they overcome their addiction they will have to struggle with it for the rest of their lives.
Yes, but usually no one wants to understand this. Beginners usually go into gambling to try it out for a little while and then get sucked into the game; it seems like a trap, although it may sound too loud. I remember how I bet for the first time and thought that I would try just a little, but in the end, after a few months, I lost several hundred dollars. I would like to recommend that beginners do not take their first bet lightly; they should always remember that this can lead to dire consequences.

With the beginning because of curiosity and trying to play, sooner or later it will become addicted even though with a small bet value it is likely to make someone addicted, small or large value of the bet played does not rule out the possibility of not being addicted, because basically gambling can attract a person's desire to continue playing even if they are just curious. like what you experienced.

So it's good for them to think in advance whether they can help themselves not to get addicted or even want to become addicted to gambling. Everything has its own risks, they just have to choose it.
Many beginners underestimate gambling by just thinking it's just a game, but in my opinion this is not just about ordinary games, this game can change a person's mindset, attitude, behavior if they are addicted. And this will harm them themselves.

Low cost would be not to spend anything on gambling and other unnecessary expenses that you may get when you are gambling. That's the part where it is important to know that you have to take care of yourself and know how to control it. It's hard but it would save you some money, not for your addictions, but for the priorities.

Find a pro-bono service that would help you with those needs. It's hard to get professional care because it's expensive. This could be a motivation to stop gambling because you may incur more expenses.

One issue I often find among people is that they do not take their finances as seriously as they should, they think that since they plan to only use a small amount of money to gamble then it does not really merit for them to be that careful when they do.

But that is precisely when a person will eventually spend more money than what they originally thought, and when this behavior keeps repeating itself not only in gambling but on several other aspects of their lives then it is not surprising we see people being unable to save any money and getting a lot of debts for stuff they did not even need.

I personally think that the amount is not necessarily the key aspect, as I've done it before without ending up in multiple gambles. I just gambled a small amount, and that was it.

There are other triggers that are more important, like how much your brain gets hooked with gambling in particular.

In a similar way, someone that is not prone to be addicted to alcohol can take a small sip and walk away, whereas other people will keep sipping for the whole night.

yeah we are all aware that consulting in a specialist is a bit expensive and this is the best way to seek help, but I think it depends in every country because there are some that offers Therapy and check up's for free by the help of the government and insurances like HMO, they covered consultations as well. Since OP seeks low cost but effective solution for gambling addiction, the last thing that possibly may help an addicted gambler is by the help of family; Console, listening to them and giving an advice but most importantly, gambler should have to help their self to overcome this matter too.

Yeah, the social aspect is quite important actually. There is a lot that can be fixed with having a supportive network.

Spend time with your friends and family, that will make you feel much better, and will have less chances of becoming an addict.

Low cost as well, unless your friends and family charge you by the hour  Grin

Like how the hell can you say that therapy is low cost? Bro many people who are on the level of average in terms of making money can't even afford it, that's no low cost, maybe in your country but not in mine.

Also therapy can only work if the person is looking for solution and they determined to get the problem solved, most addicted gamblers are not looking for solution, they are looking for something to put all the blames on, sorry for sounding this way.

I have two people are I can consider calling a relative because we grow up together, they are both addicted to gambling and they have never for once said it's their fault for falling into addiction with gambling, I told them they need to accept that the problem is them first before they can able to beat the addiction.

If you are committing a crime and you don't see anything wrong with it, that's not a crime to you, not until you realize that what you are doing is wrong you can never be free of that habit, you will always go back and do the same thing, because to you it's never wrong.

There are countries that offer free sessions or rehabilitation and the government is the one sponsoring it, so check with your government if they have a program like that there are charitable institutions that will sponsor rehabilitation too, so the first thing is to check the availability of these services in your country, these sponsorships by the government and charitable institutions will last until you are fully healed.

Here in our country, we have free counseling and rehabilitation but there is an agreement that you need to fully commit yourself until you are fully healed because you will be called to also offer help to those who need treatment that you've gone through.

I've always thought about those things as being a bit strange.

Because when you think about it, the government earns a lot of money from the gambling activity of their citizens.

Then, on the other hand, the government has to pay to rehabilitate and help the gambling addicts of their country.

I'm pretty sure they don't use the whole amount they earn to help though.

How did this unemployed person got addicted to gambling in the first place?

Cross Addiction can be one therapy. This thread came up yesterday which seems a good alternative to battle addiction which is to divert the addiction to another addictive game. Somehow it could be a solution for a while in order for the addict to divert its attention to somewhere else. He could be battling this addiction soon but at least this will be another topic. PS4 is not so bad though. Somehow addicted to PS4 games is acceptable.

It sounds more acceptable because the previous comparison was with a highly unacceptable addiction. Someone who was previously addicted in a positive way, like being addicted to reading scientific books (if that exists), might have a different perspective when this cross-addiction happens and switches to being addicted to PS4.

Sometimes, it's suitable to minimize the risk if this cross addiction leads to something good. Going from alcohol addiction to a game addiction or from drug addiction to fishing addiction seems more acceptable because the sacrifice is reduced. But with games, fishing, or anything that reaches the addiction stage, they'll spend a significant amount of time on it, thus reducing their overall productivity, right?

The key point is the initial comparison. If the comparison to the initial addiction is worse, then this cross-addiction is still at an 'acceptable' level.
