In short they will have to find other means to engage themselves and make a new hobby so that they will totally forget about gambling. But I'm not sure if there is a cost effective way, and the only thing that crosses my mind is that gamblers just quitting for good. There could be something that will happen in their lives that will totally make a U-turn and forget about gambling.

But it's very difficult because we all know that once gambling addiction kicks-in, our decision is clouded, thus we don't have total control of ourselves. And probably if there's something happening in our lives, like maybe the gamblers family are falling apart because of his addiction that he might prioritize things and promise to his wife that he will stop gambling for good so that they won't have a broke family. Something that will change the heart of the gambler for good because of a bad consequences of his gambling.
We're in the system to milk it and not give it the little money we've made, because that would be really hurting and our pockets will bleed because giving and not receiving is no guarantee of earnings. Once addiction kicks in, that's a red code and ought to be stop by any means, sticking to a more proper way to ensure addiction is not our fate, I've witnessed scenarios were addiction have rendered most gamblers useless and incapable of reaching their goals mapped out. Quitting gambling is a basically one of the brilliant decision suggested and triggering it into action should be reinforced.
Unfortunately, gamblers who are already addicted to gambling will not easily realize that they are addicted to gambling unless someone else tells them. They will continue to gamble as usual, or maybe they will gamble more often until they experience even bigger losses. Those who have people around them who are aware of changes in themselves and are willing to tell them that they have a gambling addiction are truly lucky and should be grateful. The people around them can start helping the gambler to get out of his gambling addiction and start stopping his gambling activities before it is really too late. And if they can stop gambling, it will be better for them because they can leave gambling for good.

They (addicts) will leave it if they find new joy, but that is really difficult to do when those subjects tend to get worse in terms of their quality of life once addicted. . Solutions such as reading, painting, volunteering,... can all be considered meaningless in the eyes of gamblers. Sometimes we really want to help them, but it's hard to chase after people who don't have any stopping points, so when addicts' lives have to pay the price, it is also when they have ruined their own lives. Depending on the level of gambling addiction, in my opinion, the issue of greed needs to be clearly understood from a young age, so that when exposed to the social environment, people will realize what is the right thing to do. In a few small cases where I have seen addicts who are conscious of the fact that they do not want to owe money, or maybe they cannot borrow money to continue playing, some free play platforms are also an option to help them relieve their stress.

Those which have fallen prey of any addiction need to realize that just as it took them months or even years for their addiction to develop, it will also take them a lot of time for them to overcome their addiction and they may need several tries for this to happen.

And I mention this because there are some of those addicts that have fantastic ideas about a fast recovery happening to them and everything going back to normal, something that is not really possible as even if they overcome their addiction they will have to struggle with it for the rest of their lives.
So it is very appropriate if they try to realize that they have experienced an addiction and need help to cure their addiction. Even though it takes a long time, they have to cure it because having a gambling addiction will only harm them because they can't do other things that should be more beneficial for them.

Addicts who have extraordinary ideas for fast recovery must be supported by all parties so that they can realize their plans and not inconvenience many parties. And even though, in the end, he can cure himself of gambling or other addictions, the people around him still have to support him and encourage him to stay away from problems that could cause them to become addicted again.

The rehabilitation process is crucial. Its not just a path towards recovery but a transformative journey that reshapes one's life and values. Here, family is important right? Their assistance can move things forward. Its about emotional anchorage, not just presence. When a family supports an addict, they renew relationships and restore trust. Recovery rests on this support system.

Can we see this path as a chance for the whole family to grow, not just as battling addiction? Its an opportunity for everyone to learn, understand human behavior, and grow. The goal is to foster a deeper, more compassionate family understanding, not just heal one person. Wouldnt you agree that such a difficult experience could strengthen and unite your family?
Yes, family is important because they are the ones who will support the person with an addiction to recover from addiction. If it is a gambling addiction, support from his family is really needed so that the gambling addict does not feel alone in struggling to overcome his gambling addiction. And yes, there will be trust from his family to the gambling addict that he is able to go through every stage to cure his gambling addiction so that the gambling addict feels that he has a second chance to improve his life and can cure his gambling addiction.

Love from family is very valuable and meaningful, especially if that love is given to someone within the family circle. He will see that his family actually still supports him and wants him to return to their midst and live his life well. If the family can really provide encouragement, support, and confidence to the gambling addict to recover, the gambling addict will use it as well as possible and will not disappoint his family.

it cannot be denied that professional help is quite expensive and not everyone has access to it. one of the best and cheapest ways in my opinion is with the help of relatives, friends or closest family. someone who is addicted to gambling can ask for help from them to help them get out of their gambling addiction.

or if it necessary, help from a priest or other religious leader may help because usually they have basic knowledge about addiction and how to overcome it. maybe their help will help these addicts and usually it's free.

It depends on which country you are living. Some of them do offer free (paid by taxes) visits to professional help. In the end it actually costs less than dealing with the consequences, but that's a different topic.

In the end I think the gambler personally has to take responsibility and try to simply do other things. We are what we do. If they stop gambling, they won't be a gambler any more. Easier said than done, but when you realize you have the power to change right now by doing something else, just for today, you might actually do it.

Those will be tough days for a gambling addict because he has to go through all the healing processes. But if he has acknowledged and accepted his condition of being a gambling addict from the start, that means he is ready to accept everything that he will go through. That is the consequence of what he has to do as a result of being addicted to gambling. And the rehabilitation process must be carried out well so that it can produce the results he wants. Therefore, if in the healing process, there is a family who continues to support him, the gambling addict will not feel heavy and can even feel the love of his family who does not abandon him who is undergoing healing therapy. This will make him enthusiastic because he will see that his family has not abandoned him but has remained with him while he is undergoing therapy.

Yes that's right, basically rehabilitation can really be used to help them get out of gambling addiction, although it may not be completely guaranteed but what is certain is that it can already be one very good alternative. Of course friends, family has an important role in problems like this, because obviously someone who is already addicted needs some help from people who they think are important in their lives, and also with that then I think some suggestions will not be too difficult to get into him to consider if indeed someone who gives advice is one of the important people in his life, I'm sure there are some good impacts for changes that will have the opportunity to occur.

That makes sense, on the other hand it is true as you said that this case will indirectly be a platform for a family to grow more in terms of family relationships and bonding. I think with a problem like this and if they manage to overcome it then obviously this might be a foundation for them when someday  there are some other family members who also have addiction problems then they will know how to deal with it.

Yes, but usually no one wants to understand this. Beginners usually go into gambling to try it out for a little while and then get sucked into the game; it seems like a trap, although it may sound too loud. I remember how I bet for the first time and thought that I would try just a little, but in the end, after a few months, I lost several hundred dollars. I would like to recommend that beginners do not take their first bet lightly; they should always remember that this can lead to dire consequences.

Like how the hell can you say that therapy is low cost? Bro many people who are on the level of average in terms of making money can't even afford it, that's no low cost, maybe in your country but not in mine.

Also therapy can only work if the person is looking for solution and they determined to get the problem solved, most addicted gamblers are not looking for solution, they are looking for something to put all the blames on, sorry for sounding this way.

I have two people are I can consider calling a relative because we grow up together, they are both addicted to gambling and they have never for once said it's their fault for falling into addiction with gambling, I told them they need to accept that the problem is them first before they can able to beat the addiction.

If you are committing a crime and you don't see anything wrong with it, that's not a crime to you, not until you realize that what you are doing is wrong you can never be free of that habit, you will always go back and do the same thing, because to you it's never wrong.

Acceptance and willingness will really come a long way in treating gambling addiction.

An addict must first acknowledge to himself that he is indeed suffering from addiction and must be eager to be treated and to receive medications and interventions. It's not a one-day process to recover from severe gambling habits that has been built for a long period of time. That is why it will not be an easy task to cure it too. Rehabilitation will take a step-by-step progress. It could include highs and lows which includes being clean for a certain period, then having the urge to gamble again. And that's totally normal. It's part of the healing. After all, not all healing are linear. It can even be spiraled. Hence, one must really have the willingness, determination, and persistence to recover. Otherwise, the efforts and treatment will just all go to waste. Being aware and helping yourself are big key factors in getting out of addiction.

A person who has experienced a gambling addiction must have a strong desire and will to cure his gambling addiction. Otherwise, whatever amount of money he uses to cure his gambling addiction will not be successful in curing his gambling addiction because he will return to gambling again because he still thinks about enjoying gambling games. Self-control is something that every gambler must have to prevent gambling addiction, and it is not easy because people can lose self-control after they have been gambling for a while and they don't realize it. We can gamble but with good self-control to prevent problems that will arise in gambling, especially since we have seen and know the impact experienced by people who lose self-control while gambling.

It just that most people out there when they are addicted don't want to do it because they feel that gambling is everything, even worse they feel bored and anxious if they don't do several sessions of playing or betting.
A good start is to have intentions and efforts that are based on sense of enthusiasm to recover or stop gambling addiction.
If someone feels anxious because they don't gamble, it is certain that they are a serious addict at a high level, it is difficult to cure them, especially if they realize that they have gone too far in gambling, it is impossible to do so, after all, it is impossible for addicts to have that awareness before they are truly bankrupt and losing many people around him leaving him alone, because loneliness and bankruptcy will usually make someone aware of how to restore everything for the better.

Even though not many people succeed, there are some people who try to recover for the better, they don't have to stop gambling, just reduce it slowly so that it reduces the desire and feelings of anxiety when not gambling, gradually this will help reduce the addiction even though it takes a long time. In fact, there is no solution to stop gambling completely, but reducing it slowly is much better.

An easy way to overcome gambling addiction can start from several things such as trying to have limits and also starting to have self-control over every gambling activity.
Although this method is not guaranteed, at least it can save costs and can also be done more competently.
The point is to slowly reduce gambling activities because getting rid of addiction is not as easy as people think, let alone stopping gambling, if you succeed in reducing it gradually then the desire to gamble will decrease over time even though this takes a long time but it will ultimately make people stop their addiction and can stop gambling whenever he wants, it all requires a process that might be considered difficult.

I once saw a friend of mine succeed in doing something like that, he didn't stop suddenly and he followed the process of reducing his time gambling so that slowly he started not feeling the desire to gamble. he is much better now with his family and a completely normal person without gambling anymore. I can take that experience because someone has succeeded. Strong determination is needed before doing so.
It difficult to just reduce gambling activities gradually because there is always desire to return to playing and betting in place they like, unless they look for other activities that can be useful then it can be effective in reducing gambling activities.
I sure that if someone works and after that has other activities then they will be able to slowly forget about gambling and only do it once or twice week so that over time they can control it.
Even though it takes a long time, if you do it with happy heart and a calm mind it won't be problem it won't even feel like they can be responsible gamblers without having to worry about addiction.

The self control in the gambling is enough for the gambler to get away from the gambling addiction,my friend had spend 5k dollars for the reduction of the gambling addiction. It may be seems to be the biggest money, but the fact is he is the millionaire. So my friend family decided to use the 5k treatment to avoid him to get loss of entire million dollars. But the fact is he never get away from the gambling addiction.Because he is not ready to quit the gambling from his mind.So self control was the important that spending huge money spending to get away from the gambling addiction.Playing the gambling game is not the wrong one, only the gambling addicted person doing the spoil of the name of the gambling.

Do you mean cross addiction? I think that's a good idea but you have to know that all excess activity is not good for everyone's physical and mental health, If someone might replace gambling addiction to a good addiction like physical exercise or other thing that has a positive outcome to a person then it's good but there's a tendency that even a good addiction might cause something bad also. Much better if a person will teach how to balance everything so that it can't lead to any obsession.

Yeah, spot on.

But I do think that positive addictions, such as running too much, etc, usually require more time for you to actually end up in a negative situation.

And by that time you might realize that you are a bit too addicted and might be able to tone it down a bit, etc.

Whereas with gambling and other negative addictions it might only require a few days to have catastrophic consequences.

Gambling gains will influence a person to gamble and gambling losses will make a person depressed. Not everyone plans to gamble with either low cost or high cost considerations. I have seen a lot of gamblers who have gambled away their money at one stage by mortgaging their house to someone else and then gambling with that money, how do you see this? Everything has a certain dimension. Nothing is good in excess, a gambler who earns a lot of money every month and if he loses all his money by gambling then he is a poor person. On the other hand, if a low-income person gambles while managing his family and is not addicted to gambling at certain times, then his gambling style is correct and he is a rich person.
Gambling is an aspect that gives people no time to think, how much money you have or how you will fare in the future if this amount is lost. A gambling addict does not have time to think.

One of the solutions which is recommended by most gamblers on this forum for gambling addiction is "Therapy" . Professional help in the form of therapy. It is good and very effective but how many persons can actually afford it? There is a fee for each session that lasts for a duration of 60minutes. And there are more than one session. Therapy for gambling addiction is expensive. How can those who are unemployed afford it? How about the college student? Or the person receiving minimum wage. What are the other low cost but very effective solutions to gambling addiction. And typically how long will it take before the addict starts to feel more in control and less withdrawal symptoms?
Will totally appreciate your responses. Thanks.
While you are concern about the effective solution for gambling addiction and also the expenses for therapy have you consider how much those addicted gamblers will spend  if not being threated ?
the amount they will pay for therapy is just a peanut of how much they can lose in the long term while they can use the betting money for the therapy and also how much time and what are the other stake if they continue gambling.

But if you are seeking for cheaper or even free? then that is either the Church that will help them realized or their family and friends but first they must trust them before the process starts because even therapist cannot help them if they are not participating .
That is a very good point, and we must not only consider the amount of money that someone that is left untreated will keep spending on their addiction, we need to also think on the time, opportunities, relationships, opportunity cost and the overall well-being people give up just to keep themselves enjoying their addiction.

And when we think about things on those terms then we can easily realize that whatever cost a therapy may have, this is nothing compared to the costs the addicted will have to keep paying.
