At what point did KNC's "Q1/Q2" ship date become, either implicitly or explicitly, a Q2 shipdate.

He said 'KNC said', i haven't seen them say anything on their website nor via email in quite a while now

When Orama explicitly said they were still in the design phase for the chip, and it was later state 'early design phase'. This removes Q1 as a possibility simply due to the reality of design->test->verification->foundry->packaging->KNC

This was discussed several pages back.

I'm not trying to be an asshole but that does not mean "KNC said" as was stated earlier.. It's may or may not be logical based on where they are but it's not a statement they ever made, state the facts as they are..

You can easily add two more plugs to your controller with basic soldering skills.

I hope to be making a video next week to show how its done.

I don't think they are basic skills. If you never soldered anything this procedure is quite difficult without ruining your currently working board.

I believe he was conveying that if you've soldered, it's a basic job.

This is true.

Its all about the right tools.

For this job you need a desoldering iron to clear the holes

Like this one:

(about $15 on Amazon)

and then once the holes are cleared, a low wattage pencil iron

like this:

NOT THIS:

Too big an iron, too hot and you damage the board.

Joe,
Do you have a source for the 2x5 pin IDC header to solder onto to the KNC controller board.
I ordered a bag from amazon that were supposed to be 2.5mm but they are 1mm. I thought I would ask you before I ordered from digikey.

I got mine on Ebay, ordered from this vendor:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Pcs-2x5-10-Pins-Box-Header-IDC-Male-Sockets-Straight-2-54mm-/140817653296?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20c962de30

Problem is (and they tell you this in advance) it takes 30 days to get to you (in my case it took 35 days)

So, ~3TH for 10,000$ in 'Q1/Q2' is currently up against ~2TH for $6,000 in may (And a sold out batch of 2TH for $6,000 in april), is this correct?

Plus these other ones like bitmain/antminer/etc

Sounds like you forgot to read the fine print on the Neptune rig info!!

Knc - (we reserve the right to increase this as we get closer to shipment)

We are not closer to the shipment yet so your comparison between 3TH/s and 2TH/s isn't valid, PERIOD!

Cheesy

It's still a worthy comparison. KNC already said Q1 shipment wasn't going to happen, so it'll be Q2.

When was this?

It's still a worthy comparison. KNC already said Q1 shipment wasn't going to happen, so it'll be Q2. Most households won't support the machine running more than 3TH, so if you go by that metric then the Neptune is about $1100 more than the CT model (3k/th).

While the Neptune should likely do 5TH, it'll be only in homes with upgraded power panels or commercial spaces.

A better comparison would be who's shipping what right now without preorders, and sine December, Chinese manufacturers have been shipping tons of hashpower out. KNC hasn't. So, KNC 0, Others Many.

Would be really awesome if knc surprised us on the Neptune with the dual ability to also mine scrypt @ 300mh or something.

Actually you may need some more substantial wattage.  Some of the holes are connected to the big copper ground plane which sucks the heat away.

I used 2 irons at once, a 30W and a 25W.  I applied both until it got hot enough, and then kept one on while applying fresh solder.

I have Neptune pre-orders, so with Cointerra and Hashfast shipping, I've been keeping a close eye on the next difficulty change.

Take a look at the recent slope of the 504 block hashrate graph! It looks like the difficulty is about to explode yet again. Sadly, I think Neptunes will be net Bitcoin losers (folks won't get back what they paid for them in BTC) if they don't ship by late March.

can people stop posting that cointerra is shipping so the mods can stop deleting my replies trying to keep the record straight?

Right, no i know that.  they also say you can refund (at least the early batches) up to the day of shipping i think it was.

but just because they said they reserve the right to give you more hash power, doesn't mean they will, or perhaps, even can. (either silicoln limits, pcb limits, not enough chips/wafers, or whatever)

I'm still holding, don't get me wrong, but I would like to know what the situation is, and it seems mums been the word from KnC.  Not that i blame them, they and CT have the best technical chops and there's a lot to do.

We still have a lot time until Q2, I would only start to worry if by the end of Q1 nothing comes out of KnC about the batch 2 miners. Bugging them now about the Neptune's is premature as they likely don't know the correct answer just yet so it's better for them not to say anything. Cheesy

Amazes me how just because Americans can't do something (like run Neptunes in houses due to the piss poor wiring) they assume there's no market or it's a mistake in the design? Most of us have no problem with that at all. The company is Swedish, they sell in China and Europe and can easily find people able and willing to buy and run their rigs.

As for KNC stopping posting in this thread, they hardly posted in their own forum so that's no surprise.
They DO communicate well though, when they want to sell something. Once they have your money they haven't much reason to. Look back at the 1st batch, that's what happened.

People keep forgetting that KNC are the promotions/media company, they get engineers to do the real work ..so they don't know enough to communicate with people like you who ask hard questions. Again, look back at the last batch and people who had problems with hosting and faults...they had a mare of a time getting them to even answer the fucking phone never mind get any direct answers.

If the bitcoin price had gone the way we thought it would when we ordered the last batch, we'd be about 200 now, maybe 300? So that would be no break even in either dollars or XBT for the vast majority if not all of us. We got lucky. It's unlikely that kind of thing will save anyone in the next few months is it?
