India came into the second innings amassing only 462 runs, despite being the biggest deficit in the first match. So the Indian team has given a total lead of 107 runs to the New Zealand team, the target of 107 runs can be fulfilled by the New Zealand team very easily. Because the batsmen of the New Zealand team will perform batting without pressure, these two batsmen Latham and Conway will enter the field as an opening, they are very calm and patient. They will be able to complete the opening partnership in this match, the New Zealand team has done a good bowling performance in this match.

Target is just 107. So it should be a cakewalk for New Zealand unless their batsmen want to make a mess of it. Facing Jasprit Bumrah is not going to be any easier on 5th day, but a bigger danger is the sharp turn that Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja can generate. New Zealand batsmen just need to be patient, and obviously a disproportionate amount of burden will fall on the shoulders of Rachin Ravindra. Even if they lost this match, India is likely to remain at the top of points table in the ICC World Test Championship.

It seems rain played a big role today. When I last time checked their score, Indian did not lose any wickets today. I just came online again and saw they were all out for 462. It is understandable how much the rain actually affected it. The sad part is India had to play even on the wet outfield, and they got all out. But they had less than an over to bowl today.

They could have taken the benefit of the wet outfield today and tried to get some wickets. If they were able to bowl at least 10 to 15 overs, I guess they could have do something. But luck wasn't with them. According to cricbuzz, the lowest score they defend was 107. Let's see if they can repeat the history.

Yes, I think this rain benefited to the New Zealand team and India lost all their wickets once the match resumed after the rain. India was all out at 462 runs and I must say this was a brave innings. You don't see teams recover so well after having such a bad start. Now for New Zealand, they just need 107 runs and it is an easy task.

However, still, there is still only one hope for the Indian team and that is the bengaluru weather. The forecast isn't good at all but they need it to be rain for the whole day. If New Zealand get only one session to play, they will chase this score.

In the morning session, Kiwi seamers ran out of carrots and spinners were going for runs but the rain break came at the right time and they got more than enough time to breathe and rest their legs with a new ball due in the next 4-5 overs. Outfield also got damn slow after a shower and many shots didn't travel to boundaries and it surely cost like 20-30 runs to India.

India had a such a terrific start, but very little resistence shown by lower middle order, now it"a NZ's match unless we see them repeating India's 1st inning batting collapse which is unlikely.

Disappointed with KL the most.

Luck did play some part here.

We only had to see the second new ball but when the seamers smells the blood against the run of play then it becomes tough, happens all the time and Kiwi seamers were right on the money so full marks to them. Irrespective of the outcome, it was a brave effort from India, it's just they couldn't finish their inning on a high note and the lower middle order collapsed.

KL will warm the bench in the next match and Gill will be back.

Edit

Pant would've been sitting on 14-15 test tons comfortably in just 36 test matches if he was a little selfish (He got a few 80s as well). For comparison, Great Gillcrist got 17 test tons in 96 matches. As they say, live by the sword and die by the sword.

Edit

Playing 2 seamers with 3 spinners at this deck looks the worst decision now and they have 5 seamers sitting on the bench. Rohit and Gambhir need a belt treatment for this.

If New Zealand gets Pant out and limits India lead they have a chance. Otherwise India will be hard to beat or I am looking that the match will be drawn.
Rahul &Pant both gone. Can these two legends Ravindra Jadeja and Ash save India from defeat? India are leading by 82 runs so far but this 82 runs is not enough to avoid defeat but they have to give a lead of 200 runs after the full day today. If India can get through a session tomorrow then it can be said that the match will have at least a chance of a draw. I think for now this match has gone out of India's control in the first innings especially after getting all out for six and forty runs in the second innings so far India has managed to lead by 82 runs, it is going to be a really commendable innings.

Sarfaraz Khan and RIshab Pant's two innings were very important. Sarfaraz Khan returned to the dressing room with 150 and Rishab Pant got out with 99 runs. RIshab pant misses the century by just 1 run. But I expected to see a big innings from Kl Rahul. Because KL Rahul is one of the most experienced and important batsmen in the Indian squad. But Rahul got out after collecting only 12 runs.

India lost their sixth wicket for 438 runs. Jadeja and Ashwin are now at the crease. I am not expecting a big innings from these two batsmen. The Indian team managed to take a lead of 82 runs. And India will probably give a target of less than 200 runs.

3 rather quick wickets for NZ and now momentum is in NZ's favor. Pant missed his century by 1 run. India should give minimum 250 runs lead to any chance, but chances for that to happen looking bleak at the moment.

Rahul disappoints once again, Axar Patel could have been a better choice lol.

Whatever the outcome, India has given a good fightback.

Yesterday's Rohit and Virat dismissals and today Pant's — same energy  Grin

India played brilliantly today though I would say Sarfaraz Khan got this far because of his impressive batting, Sarfaraz Khan scored 150 runs. India team has lost four wickets at the moment, however New Zealand team's bowling performance should be better at the moment otherwise they will not be able to put India under pressure. However, India have managed to amass a lead of just 63 runs at the moment, if the New Zealand team can now bowl well and get Rishabh Pant out, India will be under a lot of pressure. So I think New Zealand team must put India under pressure today if they want to win this match, only then it can be possible to beat India.
Yes you are right India played very well today especially Sarfaraz Khan 150 runs. But New Zealand bowling needs to improve to challenge India. India lost four wickets but New Zealand bowling was not strong enough. To change game New Zealand must get Rishabh Pant out and limit India lead.
India is currently 75 runs ahead which is manageable. New Zealand bowling must get better to take advantage of India weaknesses.
If New Zealand gets Pant out and limits India lead they have a chance. Otherwise India will be hard to beat or I am looking that the match will be drawn.

After a batting disaster in the first innings, the Indian team is trying to play well in the second innings and the fourth day's play is underway but the match is currently suspended due to rain. India are still trailing by 12 runs and I think they might lose this Test to New Zealand. I have to agree with your opinion that New Zealand are more likely to win as they are not batting now in the second innings and the fourth day's play continues today. However, going into bat against India the opposition team needed to score more runs although New Zealand stopped at 402 runs. If India lose this match I will give full credit to Matt Henry and William ORourke who didn't give any chance to the Indian batsmen in the first innings. Matt Henry took 5 wickets for 15 runs in 13.2 overs which was truly remarkable and William ORourke took 4 wickets. If the game is not played due to rain I think New Zealand have a high chance of winning as per ICC rules they can declare the team ahead as the winner.

India have just lost their fourth batsman. India lost the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan for 408 runs. Sarfaraz Khan played a brilliant innings of 150 runs. So far this is the highest collection by Indian batsmen in this match. Rishab Pant is still unbeaten at the crease after collecting 89 runs. KL Rahul, Jadeja and Ashwin are each capable of batting well and are capable of playing big innings. India will probably collect 600+ in their second innings.

At this moment, India has managed to take a lead of 52 runs. If India can set a target around 250 runs then they have a big chance of winning. New Zealand is a strong team but it is difficult for any team to score 250+ in the last innings.

Blundell making blunders, first easy catch of Pant dropped in first inning, although it didn't cost at all then but and in this inning, he missed run-out when Pant was on single digit score and now is on his way to make century.

If rain keeps interfering again and again, NZ are screwed. This match will end as a draw if that happens or if India collapse which seems unlikely to me. Great fightback India.
I think it's the other way around. India seems to be pushing for results, not a draw. Rain might help Kiwis a bit because Indians are scoring runs at some pace and soon will look to set the target, but such breaks could ruin momentum and give the opposition time to regroup.

I'd back Indian bowlers to defend the total on 5th day pitch, even if it's around 180-200 runs.

Some people are backing India to win this match while others still think New Zealand are in a comfortable position. I think the most popular opinion can be determined by looking at what the bookies are offering odds at this moment.

With India, they are offering 3.30 odds which clearly suggests that New Zealand is still considered the favourite to win this match. I do not know how they calculate odds because as current situation i rekon India has more winning chances as compared to the New Zealand team.

Yes, looking at the pace of India's game at present, many are hoping for a win in their favor, moreover, New Zealand is still in a comfortable position, in that case, it is not yet certain who will win. According to the bookies' offers, New Zealand has a high chance of winning, but here we can't bet that much whether New Zealand will win. Although the betting odds still see New Zealand as heavy favorites to win, I don't think this match will be a win. As the match is currently abandoned due to rain, India is still ahead of New Zealand in the odds of winning, however, India is still 12 runs behind New Zealand. But if India can give a lead of 200 runs, then the chances of New Zealand's victory will be less and the chances of India's victory will be more.

Advantage with India now. Sarfaraz Khan batting at 125, while Rishabh Pant has made 53 till now. India has gained a lead of 12 runs. The pitch is offering a lot of support for the spin bowlers, and in case India can get the lead above 200, then New Zealand will be in trouble. The New Zealand skipper is doing the mistake of over-relying on his spinners. He should ideally use a mix of spin and pace, as the Indian batsmen are very comfortable against spin (irrespective of the pitch conditions).

Imagine if this scenario becomes true that India gets a good lead and then New Zealand struggle against the spin bowling and loses the match. It will be one of the first matches in history where a team out in less than 50 runs in the first innings manages to win the game from that miserable situation.

By the way, are we in another twist in this match? Indian team were going well and now there is rain in the ground. This means that once the play resumes, the conditions will change a bit and this can give opportunity to the New Zealand to pick in some quick wickets and bounce back in the match. This rain is more beneficial for the New Zealand team as compared to the Indian team.

The India team was struggling in the first innings but after that they did an amazing performance and a wonderful comeback in their second innings as they will get the lead after scoring 12 more runs but the bad luck is this the rain has come and the game has stopped. I do not know after the rain, how much time will need to dry the outfield before the match will resume but I hope this match will finish with the result.

Already the day one was wasted because of the rain and so far I am looking the same on this day. Hope for the best and let's see what's going on. Today is the second last day. This is a tense match and everyone would like to see the result of this match.

I'd back Indian bowlers to defend the total on 5th day pitch, even if it's around 180-200 runs.

India seems to look too good with that bat right now. I agree that the rain may change the condition of the pitch. But I won't say 180-200 is safe to defend. I expect them to set at least a 250-300 target from here. We still have another day. If the Indian can play the whole three sessions today without losing too many wickets, they should start tomorrow with T20 style to set a good target as soon as possible and let the Kiwis bat again. Nothing is impossible. Unfortunately, the rain seems too heavy at the moment. We may head to a draw if the rest of the session gets washed out.
Rain interval won't help India if they are eyeing for 250-300 final total because they need time to do that and we have around 60-70 overs remaining today + 80-ish over tomorrow, given there is no interval but due to rain we are already started losing overs, then bad light is a big issue as well.

~snip~

Odds are still favoring Kiwis and rightly so, after all they need a couple of quick wickets and it should do the job. New Zealand must back themselves and try to get a run through the Indian middle order if it happens then it should be an easy win.

India does have a small window because they are batting fearlessly and showing a character but they are up against time and rain. If we lose 1 full session due to rain then India's chances will take a heavy dent and only 2 results will be on the cards, Draw or NZ's winning the match.

After losing all wickets for just 46 runs in the first innings, every batsman in India is able to bat very responsibly in the second innings. Now the match is being delayed due to rain. However, India managed to collect 344/3 before the rains started. Sharfaraz Khan remains unbeaten with 125 runs and Pant 53 runs. The team has collected a huge score of 344 runs in 71 overs. But the Indian team is still behind by 12 runs.

If India doesn't get a chance to bat today then there is a big possibility that the match will be a draw. India India's batsmen are batting brilliantly in the second innings. As every batsman is able to bat very well then it will not be difficult for India to bat more 70/80 overs. And if India can bat more 70/80 overs, the match is more likely to be a draw.
