I strongly believe Merit system should only start once you become Sr. Member -> Hero -> Legendary
Let the system decide who reaches Sr. Member Activity + Post are fair enough criteria already.

Now its purely in hands of other people if they let you progress or stay as Jr. Member forever.

HI GUYS. HOW TO MERIT SOMEONE? I CANT FIND THE MERTI BUTTON.

It must be related to using unnecessary large coloured fonts. This guy has the same problem 2 pages back. try reading the answers they were given. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.31472924

Also I need to know that,
Will the merits will be given only to the posts which are related to cryptocurrency?
Or if we answer well to any kind of  question, will we get merit...?
Or does depends on the merit source?

It is not necessary that you will get merit points for discussions related to cryptocurrency. Here are some places you can get merit points:

1) A lot of posts in meta section and especially in this particular official thread has got merits. You should thus try to post here often. I guess this is because a lot of senior members check this section often.

2) Even if you do not have exceptional writing skills, you can get some merits. For instance, some members got merits for creating useful infographic related to the forum.

Try to avoid the local boards if merit points are your only target as there might be less  number of merit sources there.

Totally up to the user. Personally it is unlikely for me to merit things I don't understand or have an interest in

Do we have to find a source and report our posts to get sime merits??

No, that's not how it should work. Make high-quality posts that others will find useful, informative, and interesting. Other members will send you merit for that kind of posts. In general, you shouldn't ask for merit to anyone, including merit sources. That's one of the reasons why the list of merit source is not made public.

Thank you very much 😊🙂

I think that while the merit system is good, the limits for rank upgrades are too high. I got 10 merits so I was able to upgrade to a Member, but upgrading to a Full member is an impossible task - I can't imagine how many excellent posts should I write to get another 90 merits.  Has anyone succeeded to get so many merits yet?

You are right that it is hard to achieve but definitely not impossible. I remember one of the members getting 60-70 merits for a single thread. He might have become a full member now but I am not sure. My advice is that just keep making good quality posts as we may see some relaxation in rules in future.

You can find out the merit sources if you see carefully the members giving highest number of merits. Admin has however mentioned in the official thread that the merit sources had not been made public as members may start begging for it.

I don't know about that but as far as I know if you really are skilled and know a lot of stuffs you can share, you don't need to think of having a low rank. Most of the low ranks find this new system unfair but I think the unfair here is these type of gaining merits. It must be earned through hard work and not by asking your friends to give you some.

If the merits are given for the friendship, its totally unfair for the new participants

You don't need excellent posts. The only thing which can bring you up the ladder now is powerful friends.

so to get merits people should like what you publish ?

Yes, it is. Merit is given to a good and high quality post but it will be heavily impacted by someone perspective or subjectivity. That is why some of a great post is not merited yet, maybe because it is not up to someone standard or it is not the same others point of view.
If you re struggling with merit, i guess it is good if you start by posting on the board and topic that you like or expert in, and local board is also a great place for contributing without language barrier.

thank you for the clarification , i do appreciate

I think we are going too far on the English and Genglish pun and the requisite for a "good English" for posting. I am not a native English speaker and surely make plenty of mistakes, but I think is best to focus on content rather than on the shape. I will merit posts that I can understand and are well thought even if the writing is just average. I am not looking for grammar lessons here, just for crypto fun, learn and perhaps investing better.

I mean, in the future because I don't think I am getting merit for the moment  Grin

I agree. My English is also far from being perfect - this is a worldwide forum and most of the people are not native speakers. I would say that "good english" for this forum is if anybody could understand it. On the other way, I have seen some posts where the English is so wrong that it wasn't understandable at all. Those members should definitely use local threads.

I don't realy understood where i can see the sMerit, i mean merit points which i could sent?

You do not understand this manly because you do not care to read the previous responses to this thread carefully. You can see all merit points you can give here :https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit

As per your merit stats page, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=1170524, you already send one merit and thus you should be aware of this. I am saying this because at the time of sending merits, you see  a message showing how many Smerits you currently have to give to that post. For instance, if I click on +merit option currently, I see a message showing

" You have received a total of 5 merit. This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have 0 sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future."

I think you might be having 2-3 sMerits currently depending on how many default merit points you got.
