Going back to 4k weekly.

Hey @Coinlocket$, If you don't mind, could you please kindly add a title on each of the columns of the tables you share especially what the last 2 columns stand for  Smiley I am finding it very hard to interpret since i just started following the thread today and it'w one huge hell of a thread. I can't really pinpoint when your analysis started.

I suppose I may not be the only one having trouble.

Agreed at this point.
I think it is just that everyone has got used to it now it has been in place so long.
I even did not know about the Activity requirements implementation. I simply thought it was here since the implementation of forum rank system.

The same thing happened when Activity was first introduced.
For changes,
I envisioned that some day, might be years from now, the forum will see new demotion waves.
Admin might give a long period of self-made users to promote, after that demotions will be made aim at high-rank users that won't earn any merit over years.

There were lots of threads and complaints about it until everyone forgot was it was like before the change.

Sooner or later, they will come back, and dump their shitty complaints.

Sooner or later, they will come back, and dump their shitty complaints.
Maybe... when cryptocurrencies shoot high and the I-wanna-get-rich-fast people get back to the forums, many of them realised they are stuck in low level accounts and others just being new here, they might come back here to bash the system or beg for merits.
It might become a massive issues for those ones if new demotions aim at higher ranks implemented in the future by theymos.
It will be a very interesting, very hot topic if high-rank demotions occur.

Unfortunately, we're still getting spams and shitposts from multi-account holders who were given free merits to all their old accounts.
Absolutely helpful merit system to control and wipe out spambies.

But I imagine that the situation would be much worse if we didn't have the merit system at all.

As promised, I keep updating the very inactive topic in Meta.
Once upon a time, it was the hottest place in Meta, so we should keep it updated.
Sometime later, it will return to be the hottest one again, I believe.

No matter what how inactive the topic has been within recent months.
Let's contribute if you think what you do is constructive.
Almost dead thread  Grin
I will do my own analysis later today when LoyceV dump new data in my topic.
Let's see the changes of median intra-day merits. I believe that this week, the median of after period of intraday merits will fall to almost the same as of the figure for before period (cut-off day is 09/1/2019, when Default Trust Change).

Update for today:
For full analysis results, please visit the following two topics:
1) Time Series Analysis on Distributed Merits in the forum (daily, weekly, monthly)
2) Tracking the difference of merit circulations with Default Trust Changes
It seems that the Default Trust Changes's effects on merit circulations have almost gone away, 6 weeks later the Default Trust Change.

In short:

ABSTRACT

Intra-day merits:
Notes:
- The part of the asbstract describes figures of intraday merits over the period from 19/2/2018 to 18/02/2019 (truncated dataset);
- Days from 24/1/2018 to 18/2/2018 truncated due to highly potential outliers; and days after 18/02/2019 truncated as well due to incomplete week (the eighth week of 2019, 2019w8);
- Statistics presented in the post are for truncated dataset.

(1) Potential outliers are days that have intraday total merits beyond 147 or 1139;
(2) Median of intraday merits over the period is 618;
(3) 50% of observed days have their intra-day merits range from 519 to 767 (the interquartile range);
(4) Friday [in GTM time] is the day over weeks has lowest intraday merits in terms of both median and mean, at 561, and 616, respectively.
(5) Monday [in GMT time] is the day over weeks has highest intraday merits in terms of both median and mean, at 658, and 742, respectively.
(6) There are 22 potential outliers in total, and there is only one potential outlier day happened in early weeks of 2019, on 09 Jan. 2019, at 1161.
(7) Minimum and maximum of intraday merits (full dataset) are 312 and 13018, on 11/2/2019 and 24/1/2018 respectively.

Intra-week merits:
Notes:
The part of the abstract use full dataset, only dropped last two days due to incomple week (2019w7).

(1)   The median of intra-week merits is 4466;
(2)   50% of observed weeks (56 weeeks in total), have total merits in the range from 3809 to 5559 (the interquaritle range of intra-week merits);
(3)   Minimum and maximum of intraweek merits are 3065 and 30949, in 2018w35, and 2018w4, respectively;
(4)   Six potential outliers [beyond 1055 or 8375], all of them occurred in the year 2018.

And what would be the point? You’d only go from spamming Facebook to spamming the Forum, which is the reason Merit was implemented in the first case. Stop begging for it and earn it through dedicating some time to creating decent content.

Yesterday, I earned my 200th merit, so it is the right time to do something.

Here is a time-series plot of my received merits, from 28/2/2018 to 19/2/2019

Congrats on this. Will follow your tread to see what is it about. Love new chalanges and ways to have some merit to account. My goal for this year will be to become full member.
Hopefully i will be this year end.

Here is a time-series plot of my received merits, from 28/2/2018 to 19/2/2019

It looks like a random walk.
Sometimes quietly and sparsely, sometimes intensively earned merits over the last nearly one year.
I moved much faster since early days of 2019, after promoted to a Full Member.
My target for the year is a self-made Senior Member, and I have gone two-thirds of the journey.
If the speed remains the same, I might be a self-made Senior Member next  month.
Just my hope.

For someone who feel something like "Merit ruins my life", my recommendation is:
Keep learning, and keep walking.

I have my own give-away topic there:
More than 70 sMerits available to give away (high strict rules) [Members only]
Reward rate is 2 Merits for each winner.
Nevertheless, around one week passed since the openning day of the topic, there is only one participant.
It seems that my rules are too strict, I guess, and they don't want to join, or they simply don't want to appear in my Blacklist and don't have chance to apply later.
Let's see what happen with the topic next few weeks.
If after one month, it still unable to catch attention of lower rank users, I will close it.

I won't tag a user for merit begging I would only advice them (have done that severally) if you're even thinking of begging for merit do it right, (the legal way Grin) we have giveaways where you go post link of post you feel were quality and meriters who view your post and finds it merit worthy will send you those merit. Instead of compromising your account just because of begging for merits use Giveaways thread (at least those thread encourages you to post with quality).

PS: I'm not encouraging begging of merits in any way, just advising those users begging should stop make use of GIVEAWAY THREADs instead. It'll help them improve their posting style since most TS {Thread starters} give reviews on link of post submitted.

Merits begging through PM or making posts which are by intent looking for merits without putting in enough work to make a merit deserving post is part of the forums' problems. Also shows the users lack of interest to contribute qualitatively to discussion, but rather just to earn here on the forum.
A temporary ban to cool off the user is a good punishment for such activities, then a red tag if the user does not change.

As you usually behave, you acted very kindful.
Everyone can make mistakes because we are all human.
If mistakes are small, we all should have chances to come back.
Of course, serious violations will be the exception, and no chance to come back to compromise bitcointalk community again.
Please explain to me why you're PM-begging for Merit. I don't leave red tags for that, but only a neutral.

Never should beg for merits. It's too risky.
merits you have to earn yourself here. if you post good and interesting
topics merits also come by themselves. only those who are good in school
get into a higher class. so it should be . and if you are big you also
have to work to get money. that's real life. there's nothing for free

I’ve checked all the merit TXs on the forum, and your profile id is not implied in any of them. A few weeks ago, some abuse merits were deleted (you are not amongst them), and the forum generated negative TXs to counter the positive TXs, thereby keeping the evidence in the TXs.

Sure it didn’t end up in one of your Alts ?
