Probably, you are in the 10% of people who check what permission their apps are asking for before they install an app on their device. But believe me, the rest of the 90% of people do not even care about what permission their apps are asking.

The government blocked all social media during the protest in Bangladesh. People started installing free VPNs on their mobile devices, and I don't think anyone checked what permission those apps were asking for, which they granted. Free VPNs are not Free. They collect information from their user's devices, which they sell later.

But I don't know about the one posted by @Kemarit since there's no official post confirming regarding on that matter since the figures we see is 2.5% and 10%. Let see if there's update regarding on those raffles and since usually they do that to attract a lot of users to participate on their draws. The best approach is prevention if we're unsure. Regarding any social media accounts or applications we use for communication, some might ask to access our contacts and media, but I think it's safe as long as the apps are verified by the Play Store or Google Store. Still, we have to be very careful with that. I'm not really a tech guy as well, but there's no excuse for us not to learn since most things online are free. There's a saying related to the law that goes, 'ignorance of the law excuses no one.' We can apply this here as well, so we don't blame anyone for our mistakes because we're already aware of the risk factors

You don't have to be a technology expert to know and learn technology, no matter who you are.
I always check whatever permissions are requested by every application I install on the device, that's why I sometimes have to uninstall some because it really doesn't make sense to give them permissions including accessing contacts, media, camera and so on. So far I haven't installed many applications other than what I need, in fact some of them I rarely use.

I remember in the past that most of the winners of Metawin raffle are those ticket holder that is not holding most of the tickets. Previous lucky winners are those who holds only small quantity of tickets that result to massive win since Metawin raffle rewards is massive compared to the ticket value and the limited number of participants which is just 100+ only according to your screenshot.

Actually, I am not that a tech guy. But I love to be a tech guy. I am trying to learn from the internet, and I have not learned anything special that I can call a technical guy. When we install apps on our devices, we rarely check what permission the app is asking for. Do you know what could be the reason for a camera app asking for your phonebook permission? Is there any other reason except for stealing the information? I am not saying Discord do that, but of course, it will take space in my device, which I don't want.


Yeah, it happened to me on Telegram as well. If people like Royse can be tricked because he was busy, we can be tricked as well. So, we have to be careful as much as possible. Thanks for the resources BTW.

Lots unwanted things happen especially if you go on their public channels since there are so many jerks take advantage on situation and try to scam people. Unfortunately there are lots of people fall from this type of attack, that's why its really best to know that usually admins don't send dm first to them and if they see someone doing that usually those are the scammer taking advantage in the situation.

But lots of ways to block unwanted messages so people should do that since its expected that they receive a lot of unwanted thing if you go to telegram or even in discord.

By the way Metawin is showing some love to their community again.

Yeah, that's true hence I would highly recommend turning off your DMs for server members (does not apply to friends) under privacy settings. That's what I do and never had such problem anymore for years.

If you think it's too much for you though. Discord has some soft settings--for the lack of better word. Basically, there is a whitelist feature for servers and a message requests folder you can enable -- DMs from people you may not know will be placed on message requests folder and you can treat it as a spam folder and be extra cautious lol.

I know you are a technical guy because you have some technical educational threads, and perhaps you knew about risk of over installation too. For applications we rarely use, it does not make sense to install them on our devices while this practice includes risk.

You will get similar scam attacks in Telegram too. When you join a project chat community, and ask for help, you will quickly receive PMs from many users with similar names of admins. The key is admins never DM first. If someone DMs you first and claim as an admin, be cautious, it's scammer and impersonator.

On Discord, you need to get user ID
Where can I find my User, Server, Message ID. Turn on Developer mode first, to right click on a user DMs you to get an user ID and compare it with information for admins of that Discord server.
Common scams what to look out for

There are already dozens of applications on my mobile device, including wallet apps, CEX apps, and some tools as well. I don't really want to install more apps unless it's too important. Discord is a chat server app that I do not use every day. So, I don't think I am going to install it unless I get a job role in a server. xD.

Scammers always try to scam people, and they do not miss any chance. I remember I had an issue on Owlto.finance a couple of months ago when I was bridging ETH on their platform. Later, I joined their Discord server to create a ticket and a couple of scamers send me private message and pretended to be support agent of Owlto.finance. A person has be very careful when they chat on public servers.

The more applications you install on your phone and device, the more risk of compromise on your devices. So if you can reduce installed applications, it's good in security of your devices and your fund if it is stored on your devices.

Discord is like other chat platforms, can be flooded with spam and malicious links. You can not let security of your account, device and fund on moderators in Discord servers. Prepare enough knowledge about security online and Discord server specifically, will help you to use Internet and Discord safely.

In general, I agree with you that we don't need to install Discord, Facebook, Whatsapp and other texting applications on our devices. It's only risky and unsafe.

Don't force yourself to do this because of rain, airdrop and so on. Do it naturally and if you are eligible for rain drop, airdrop, let's claim and enjoy it.

My problem is similar to you. But not exactly the same. I do not use Discord on my mobile device, so even if they send notifications, I won't be able to see them unless I am on my desktop or laptop. I don't think I will be able to spend hours chatting on the Discord server with the hope of getting some rain or tips. As I said before, I am not a big fan of Discord chat servers.

I spend a lot of time on casino chats in the old days just to Catch some rains. But there were only a couple of casinos back then. I had a lot of free time when I was a student and basically had nothing to do all day.

I think they still need that since new record set will create curiosity to people and maybe lots of attention will be gather due to that achievement they get.
