A top #10 fighter in the UFC like Corey Anderson can move to bellator and demolish everyone. As we have seen.

Are you saying that UFC fighters are better than Bellator? It is not always like that. For example former Bellator fighters like Alexander Volkov or Eddie Alvarez performed well among other fighters. Volkov is top5 in heavyweights, Alvarez was a lightweight champion. I could mention Michael Chandler, but he is not doing well in UFC (however he is top5 lightweight).

I would not say that UFC fighters would demolish Bellator fighters, I would rather say that top Bellator fighters are like average UFC fighter. Not a punching bag, and not a future champion.

The UFC matches the best in the world against the best in the world.

Bellator matches its champions and golden boy prospects against subpar competition, to create mismatches that give an exaggerated false impression of how good their fighters are.

A top #10 fighter in the UFC like Corey Anderson can move to bellator and demolish everyone. As we have seen.

They tried to make Ryan Bader a 2 division champ, by feeding him mismatches, but the illusion could not last for long.

^  Depends which UFC event you’re talking about bud.  Smiley  But I do get it.  There are some events in the UFC that don’t deliver...  But there are events in Bellator that do suck too a lot of times.  And Bellator 273 was one of the best events Scott Coker had after a couple of so so events.

What made Bellator 273 special was the underdogs in main card winning their bouts.  Especially the Henderson win.  He fought in front of his home town, his family and friends.  He was considered washed by the books and most of the MMA community and expected him to lose vs one of Khabib’s proteges...  Nope.  So good.

Exactly! The UFC fluctuates a lot, think of it like crypto XD, it's very turbulent and the quality of an event varies drastically from one to another. It's mostly due to them actually having too many fighters on the rooster and then having to put multiple events just to accommodate those numbers. With Bellator, I see more consistency, but that consistency is on a lower level than UFCs. I am not sure if Bellator can overcome this, it seems to be bound with UFC in some odd way and I doubt it will ever have its own footing in the sport. But it's always good to have options, especially when you look at the talent in ONE and EAGLE FC (when they beef up the roster a bit).

Not really.  The UFC has been fairly consistent with their Fight Night events with some of those having a roster worthy to be a PPV event.  But the thing with the UFC is you get around two, three or four Fight Night events then a PPV card in between, the quality tends to go up then down to Fight Night quality.

I think a lot of the UFC FN events we’ve seen last year had higher quality than many Bellator events.  It’s just more exciting.  Match makers in the UFC are really good at their job.

I was so wrong about Tyron Spong. Not only he is a complete zero in wrestling, but even slow bellyboy Kharitonov outstriked him. Spong ate just every jab Kharitonow has thrown. Just every single punch. I thought that he would show speed and work as number one in the ring, but Kharitonov simply dominated him…
I told you, belly or no belly he is very good fighter Cheesy
Pre match odds were just a bookies trap.

Naaah, Kharitonov won not because he is so good, but because Spong is sucked at everything that night. Kharitonov was heavies and Spong could have used his speed advantage. But he decided not to. For me it even looked that Spong is not in his category. He should fought in light heavy. Spong should have cycle around Kharitonov and gain points. And avoid parter like fire.

Maybe I am still too impressed with his K1 performance. Spong fought top Alistair Overeem (but under K1 rules) and lost via decision. But he survived 3*3min rounds. I have expected him to show same skills that night, but as soon as he felt in parter, it was over.

Overall it was good.  Lots of finishes and some good underdog wins.  I hope Bellator match makers keep doing it.
I didn't have time last weekend to watch Bellator fights but I saw the results, Ryan Bader won like I expected,
and it was not good day for other Russian Islam Mamedov who lost from Henderson in co-main event.

I didn't saw many comments about Eangle FC 44 Kharitonov vs Spong, that went exactly as I was predicting with Kharitonov win in second round.
Rashad Evans is finally back after long break with win over Gabriel Checco, and I think, EFC44 was more interesting to watch than Bellator this time.
I signed up for FREE on their FLX website and if you didn't watch this event live you can watch playback again there:

You know what, Benson is an OG. What a fighter, such a legacy and still going strong. My hats off to him.

Yup, he still has it. I meant the hair that keeps distracting him. He should have braided it whenever he fights.
Amazing how he roll thru when he was about to get slammed but he goes with it landed on top. I still have him in mind to be one of the greatest back in 2010 where most matches are obviously unfair when it comes to sizes and weight. He suddenly disappears in UFC though.

^  Lost one parlay but won the other one and the bet on Bader.  All the fighters that won in the main card were underdogs.  Lol.  The books were way off in the main event, the co main and with Homasi vs Willis.  And it really looked like the read about Bader’s wrestling being the thing that gives him the advantage was spot on.  Gotta thank somebody for that one.  Grin  Bader got a little tired at the end of the fifth tho.

Lots of finishes which is more exciting than in UFC. UD is just overrated.

Yeah, that kinda did surprise me. I mean, I had a hunch that Kharitonov would dominate on the ground, but to do this on the feet? I mean, I could chalk up that to Spong being super axious over the possibility of a takedown and therefore opened to shots...maybe. Strange.

Anyway, here are the full Bellator results

Here are the weigh in results for Bellator’s event that starts in around 10 hours or so.  From a betting perspective, I’m not really sure what I’m looking at.  Lol.  I haven’t made my bets yet as Stake seems to have some connectivity issues but I would go for Bader in the main event as a live underdog at 2.78.  Parlay Mamedov - Willis at 1.73 and Rosta - Gonzales - Mikhailov at 1.79.  Lines are from FJ but Stake sometimes gives slightly better lines, but not by much.

The event should be good.  Enjoy!  Wink

I remember Tyrone Spong from K1. If he will show the same striking speed in mma, then he has good chances against Kharitonov. Kharitonov is experienced, but his prime form was during Pride, Dream and Strikeforce, that is about 10 years ago. If Spong avoids ground game and submissions, he will win. Check out his 14-0 boxing and 107-7 kickboxing record. His wins were mostly by knockout, and on the other hand we have Sergey who hasnt fought a top fighter last years.

In the fight against Cheick Kongo, Sergey surrendered in less than 1 second after being trapped in a read-naked choke. He did not even try to get out. If he had wins by submission in the past, than I wound not count it as a huge advantage in his next fight.

Kongo had more than 30 fights behind him before he fought Kharitonov and a bunch of those were top-tier fighters at that point. Congo also started as a standup fighter but after such a huge background in MMA at the point of fighting Kharitonov, he is sure to have become a more than decent grappler. So him catching Kharitonov in a sub is not out of this planet. But comparing that to better chances Spong could have against Kharitonov just doesn't add up on paper. Again, this is fighting and anything can happen, but the Kongo comparison is not really applicable.

Kharitonov 3 last fights were not against top opponents.
Cheick Kongo is top level fighter, ex UFC and he won 31 fights, that is impressive record.
Kharitonov was active, he did some boxing and he is bigger man so I don't see how he can lose this fight so easy.
Training at the gym with sparring partners for more than two years is not enough for this level of MMA.

No UFC this weekend so we’re forced to watch the b league, which I really don’t mind.  I just wanna see these guys throw leather.  Bellator 273 is in the menu.
No UFC but we have other alternatives, don't forget EagleFC by Khabib team is starting in two days and ONE Championship is starting tomorrow.
Main event and some other fights are with kickboxing style, and we have more fighters from Europe this time.
Best part of this is that you can watch ONE Championship event Live and FREE on youtube in high resolution.

I’ll watch any b or c league esp if there’s no UFC.  Gotta get my MMA fix.  Lol.

Anyway, went thru the Bellator card and asked around, didn’t watch any tape or looked at the stats, just from asking for info from people I respect...  Bader is a live underdog due to the wrestling advantage.  And even though Bader’s chin isn’t really that good anymore, Moldavsky doesn’t really have the KO power for a heavy weight.  And for the rest the favorites should most likely win.  But if you’re gonna do parlays, buyer beware...  There’s always a pie shitter in every card.

Kongo is a top fighter, no doubt. But Kharitonov has lost to him. Tapped almost immediately, not even trying to get out.
You know we Russian say "The bigger the closet, the more noise it makes when falling", meaning size dont matter. Ok, I got your point. So who do you think will win? I predict Spong to win in the first part of the fight, end of first round probably.

Dont forget about Gabriel Checco vs. Rashad Evans fight. Rashad is a former UFC champ. This fight will have something to look at also. So dont miss it at least in replay.

I really don’t know most of these guys except Bader and Benson Henderson but from what I’ve noticed in Bellator, the bouts are usually a mismatch.  The favorite really is the favorite which makes these matches very parlayable.  But there will be one pie shitter in there or two.

When watching UFC pre fights preparations recently, I remember seeing Spong in the gym. He wasnt active since 2019, but I am sure he had sparings with some good opponents. Kharitonov 3 last fights were not against top opponents. One was a former strongman with 21-14 record, other was never considered as a good fighter (I would say average), third fight he has lost. I would not count these 3 fights as a huge advantage.

Both fighters are strikers. I predict the whole fight to be in stance. Kharitonov was never famous for his speed, even in prime. And now he became bigger (how ever Spong has gained also). I think that Kharitonov will mostly throw single heavy punches, maybe a series of 1-2, some rare low kicks. While Spong will do more series on different body levels until one punch connects and the fight will end with a TKO.

This is true what you say but Spongs is not that much younger than Kharitonov and he has zero experience in MMA fighting.
One more thing that I saw is that he was not having any professional fight since 2019 and Kharitonov had 3 fights in 2020 and 3 in 2021.
Age difference is five years, Kharitonov is 41, Spong is 36, andf Kharitonov has reach and weight advantage.
I don't see any real reason for making Spong such a big favorite, for me this will be very close fight.
