It is amazing and pathetic that people put in so much effort to abuse the faucet. With a cool down of 5 minutes and a size of 2 bits, a bot could at most get 576 bits in 24 hours. That amount of bitcoin is worth only $0.26 at today's price, and then he probably has to spend a large portion of it on captcha solving and electricity.

$0.26. Now, if you have 10 accounts, that's $2.60. 100 accounts is $26. 400 accounts is over $100 a day passively. People go through ridiculous amounts of work just to steal under $1 around BCT. Thinking they wouldn't do the same for larger amounts is naive.

The first site when I get googling "captcha solving" asks for $1.2 for solving 1000 ReCaptcha. To get that $0.26, the abuser need to solve 288 ReCaptcha which would cost him $0.3456 if he uses that service. Of course I know nothing about that industry and there should be much cheaper service, but anyway his actual gain from an account should be very low. That's why I find the abusers pathetic.
Some sites offer cheaper rates then $1.2/1k captchas, so it can actually be profitable. You can also buy accounts with credit at some captcha solving sites for cheaper since some people still have balance but they don't have an use for it anymore. Yes, his gain per account is probably low, but like ranlo said - Having more accounts builds up. If you buy captchas at 0.8$/1k (some sites offer this rate), it costs 0.2304$ to get 0.26$. Small profit for the user, but if they have hundreds of accounts it can build up. Also, it harms MP a lot since they don't get money from captchas.
What about changing the captcha system from reCaptcha to something like SolveMedia so they earn money for captcha solves and balance out some of the loss from faucet bots?

Out of interest, could you share some more information about the faucet abuse? I'm seeing a huge amount on bustabit.com too (which has 3 bits per hour). Do you think it's humans, or someone with a recaptcha breaker?

Also, not sure why but someone is faking moneypot.com emails from what appears to be a reasonable large spam (I got two?!) campaign with emails like:

Quote
The March and April invoices are outstanding, please make a paymentasap. Thank you.

Earnestine Hays

Deputy Director of Finance
(with a .zip attachment)

from the headers:
Code:
Received-SPF: neutral (google.com: 116.106.0.86 is neither permitted nor denied by domain of [email protected]) client-ip=116.106.0.86;

I'd strongly recommend updating the SPF headers to change the ?all  to -all  to kill the spammers

Disable faucet for accounts with balance and set minimum for tips.

There is already a minimum tip requirement of 100 bits if it is done directly through MP AFAIK, though apparently that limit is not set for tipping through apps.

I mean higher minimum tip of at least 1000 bits

Please open dedicated thread for the Money Pot App Promos.
I come here to check news regarding Money Pot and I find thread is bumped by app promo.

We'll be looking to separate into two different threads soon (many sites already have more than one thread, for example BitVest).

We're both a platform and a suite of sites and will try to separate the two sides of it.  Just need to run it by the mods.

Due to rampant faucet abuse, user accounts can not send tips or withdraw without wagering at least 100 bits first.  This is subject to change.

By "send tips", do you mean the one through Moneypot directly (i.e. by clicking "Send" on MP and then "To Moneypot users") only? What about sending tips through apps directly (i.e. typing /tip in apps like Bit-Exo)? I hope the latter one is also handled or this measure would be useless.

This seems like a serious issue to me too. I hope things will get resolved soon before the abuse made a huge dent in the pool.

We're getting it fixed up right now.  Please note that all faucet funds come from Moneypot side and investments are not affected.

What kind of volume does moneypot average generally speaking (in USD)?

Lately we've been doing between 150-300 Bitcoin a day which according to eeeth.com equates to $65,000 - $130,000USD.

The flat part at 13,000 Bitcoin wagered was about 6-8 hours downtime, but other than that seems to be for the most part pretty consistent.

If the bot could claim 2 bits every 5 minutes, then they will need over 4 hours to get 100 bits. Thats quite a long time for such small amount so the wagering requirement is actually good enough since it will prevent some of them from being withdrawed. I wonder which people has such kind of life , it is not really worth the electricity you are spending all those hours for the bots

is that all you come up with? what if they have xxx accounts? do the maths please

why only 100 bits? if the abuse is that much as you described before

and what if they wager 100 bits and abuse much more? don't you see who it is and just block all withdrawals and their IP?

Agreed, the wagering requirement should be higher than 100bits in order to minimize such kind of abuse because to wager 100bits is so easy task to do IMHO.

Yah, if the abuse can help to make like lot of mbtc. Then, spending like 100 bits will not be able to stop the abuse at all. So maybe there is more clarification on how to stop the abuse.
