Calm down a bit with Russel, he's still very young, unexperienced, and not mistake free. Remember Hamilton missed his first championship due to a couple of mistakes. Since he's at Mercedes Hamilton has been extremely consistent, other pilots, even world champions, can't say the same.

You guys must be crazy if you think Mercedes would let Hamilton go for any price. They are going to pay him no matter what, they will pay him 50 million per year if they have to, they will give the rights of his own image if they have to, and do a 10 year deal if they have to.

You have to understand, this works out best when the team is far ahead of everyone else, even winning the championship on early races like at the middle of the season gives you so much more advantage because you start to work on the next seasons car, which Mercedes will want. Is Russel bad? Of course not, but if you give him the car, you are not guaranteeing a win there, you are just making sure that you have the best car and a good driver, but not the best driver, so Mercedes will want the best driver with the best car to guarantee the championship for themselves.

If this were the case, they would have already signed the renewal of the contract in October, Mercedes cannot lose Hamilton, but for the next 2 years, it cannot guarantee him a contract of 4 at that figure, in 4 years Hamilton will be 39 years old, you cannot think of paying that figure to an almost 40-year-old is the same thing that Ferrari did in Schumacher's time, especially when you have a driver at home, Russell, who can guarantee excellent performance.
For me they will agree on a 2-year contract, then Hamilton will leave Formula 1

I was reading now on formulapassion, Hamilton wants a 4-year contract at 50 million euros for season plus more freedom of rights for the exploitation of his image.
he is a 7 times world champion, but he is also 35 years old, so his requests seem absurd to me, Mercedes has the best car, he would win even with Russel at 0 cost.
They will certainly come to an agreement, but I doubt it will be a contract beyond 2 years

If Hamilton should be careful with such demands. Russell showed he is capable to drive in the Mercedes and would probably fo it for much less then Hamilton

Mercedes would not want to drop Lewis Hamilton, he is a seasoned driver that has 4th consecutive win right now, and they will not let an opportunity to slip like that, and I think that Hamilton will surely want another win on the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team,

And news on 2021 that McLaren announced that they are changing from Renault's power units from the ones that Mercedes have built and resuming McLaren-Mercedes as a team, Valtteri Bottas will resume as the driver for Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team this 2021,

Will be checking this out further more!

Well I don't think that Hamilton couldn't ask that much as you say. Russell showed it is not only Hamilton can win races easily in that car.

They can't.

From next year they will have a "budget cap".
So they can't spend 1/3 of their budget for 1 driver, they need to save money for the new revolutionary car of 2022.

I think Hamilton would also be happy with whatever offer from Mercedes as this is the only chance for him to get that 8th title and be the absolutely best driver ever of F1,for me he is already but he is sharing the titles with Schumacher.Of course Mercedes will not make him a bad offer either so this is the perfect combination and we will see Hamilton with Mercedes at least until the end of the 2022 year.Plenty of time to fight for the 8th title and I think no other driver can win it as easily as Hamilton can with a Mercedes car.

About the free practices, what often happens is that if the weather isn't good cars don't run, wait for something better. I doubt reducing the length of the free practices will really change that. Sometimes the car isn't ready, needs some mechanical work, and now that means a driver will be more likely to not run at all during a practice because there is no time to fix the car.

At the end of the day an F1 car is a kind of prototype, it needs testing to improve. Look at some teams, even after a whole season sometimes they don't know what was so wrong with their car !

I read about a 1+1 offer year from Mercedes to Hamilton but he wanted a 4 years contract.

The deadline is in 8 weeks at the start of the tests for 2021 in Barcelona.

According to some news, Daimler want to extend Hamilton's contract for 2+1 years. But it seems that Mercedes are thinking of extending for 4 years exactly. I am really curious about how this will end. In my opinion, Hamilton would like to be champion one more time at least. But I am not sure about whether he would prefer extending for 4 years.

Hamilton today received the title of "Sir", a knight of the British Empire both for sporting merits (and this was obvious, given the 7th title he won in 2020) and for his fight against racism. Hamilton will be the third Formula 1 driver to have received similar recognition (after Brabham and Stewart in the 1970s).
meanwhile, today 1 January 2021 his contract with mercedes has officially expired

this afternoon I was reading the news on autosprint. I don't understand why they say they did it to reduce costs, now they are running, what changes them to do 30 minutes more, they will consume some tires and a few liters of fuel
Autosprint, however, pointed out that the public who buys the ticket to attend the Friday rehearsals must have a reduction in the cost

To me is the "excuse" they use every time they change something nowadays.

They save some parts of the car for sure but, they will spend more on racing in more GP but they will make more money from TV if they run more GP.

I can't really know how much these 30 minutes X 2 practices x 23 GPS, 46hours x (100 ? km) x 2 drivers...

Well with an estimation every team saves around 10000 Kms and the equivalent of 4-5 GP (with practices)

The length of the free practice from 2021 will change from 2 sessions of 90 minutes each to 2 sessions of 60 minutes, this changed was planned from 2022 but it will be effective since next year too.

They are reducing cost everywhere, to me this is even a nice change it means more cars in the track at the same time, often in the Fridays we have moments with no car in the track and this is a good step in increasing the amount of yearly, GP..

More GP less and less free practice, a good change for us.

A good change for the fans. For the drivers it doesn't make that big difference. They can simulate as much as they want nowadays so less time on the track isn't that big deal.

The president of Alfa Romeo released an Interview Today and he said "Marriages will end soon or later", Alfa has a contract with Ferrari till the end of 2021.
The next contract for the engines should be for 2022-2026 but they are now thinking to change the partnership.

Should be fun to see an Alfa-Romeo, the same family as Ferrari in the real-world using a Mercedes/Renault Engine.  Grin if it will happen.

I also read this, but i don't believe that... That's like a junior team from big group and there is Ferrari von top. I think there may be some pressure exerted for a cheaper contract?
