They are doing qualify under the rain and the music is always the same.

Hamilton and Verstappen are the faster with the rain, Ferrari is a disaster too under the rain  Grin

Hamilton make a very fast qualy time nobody can beat this, Verstappen have no luck in his last round and turn so the last chance for improvement . Ferrari looks slower than the last weekend. Tomorrow are dry track so looks interesting for the race.

BREAKING NEWS!
Alonso is going to race and return back to the F1 in 2021.
He is going to race for Renault. This sounds very interesting!

Could be good for F1 I guess...  But I think getting some new faces and talents in is a better idea imho.

Anyway what's next for Vettel?  I could see him pair up with Verstappen and Hamilton.  Both Albon and Bottas look despensible.

It is mainly good for Alonso itself... Guess he needs some extra cash, as with his Renault car, he will never be able to claim a top spot in any race.
The return of Alonso means one spot less for a young talent, who don't have the network or cash to claim the spot.

Yup...  I mean do the fans still want to see a sour old man back in F1?

Get some new blood in the game imho and revive F1.  And it's what they brought Ross Brawn for.

Edit:  Quali delayed.  Wet track.

I think he should choose to go to a weaker team and just change ambient. He should show his skills with a weaker team and that will be a kind of personal comeback and if he shows good results with this team probably someone of the big teams may think to get him.If he quit for a year maybe he will not be as competitive as he is now.

The issues is that he is not competitive now either. I don't question his motivation as he is one of the rare normal guys on the grid that just wants to race without PR bullshit around it, but he is making quite a lot of mistakes in last years and Ferrari is not in the good shape because of the engine issues this season and it seems that will continue throughout the entire season unless they manage to somehow minimize that with some updates.

Taking all written above into consideration it might be better to take one year of, recharge batteries, restore yourself and inner fire and then come back again with hunger if there is enough fuel in the tank left to go through that process.

All of us humans sometime need time to reinvent and reinforce ourselves, discover a new identity with new set of values, F1 drivers are no exceptions.

Mercedes were clear on their view on Bottas. He will stay with the team and I think he started the Championship with the right foot this year by getting a win in the first race.Vettel lately is doing a lot of errors which is why he is not offered a new contract from Ferrari.Alonso is a great driver but the age is not in his favor so I don’t expect anything from him next year except a podium as a maximum achievement.

Mercedes have a good team, Hamilton as #1 and Bottas as good an "thank you" sing man the also can win. Never change a running and good system i think. For Mercedes no reason and i think Bottas cheaper than Vettel. Mercedes lern from the #1 pair Hamilton/Rosberg

I believe that we all are on the same page, that Alonso return is nothing to be excited about because he’s not young anymore, and I may just cheer for him because of sentimental reasons, but realistically I’m not expecting him to win any races. Furthermore Vettle has openly declared that he may walk out of F1 if he doesn’t get a lucrative contract, so do you’ll believe that he will actually walk away from F1?, or it’s just his ploy to get a lucrative contract from one of the rival teams?.

I truly believe Vettel will leave F1 for 1 season at least if he does not perform like a beast this season, even though that might not be enough. Driver spots are almost consolidated and I don't see spots open in any major team, which is why I believe he will take 1 year break. I don't see Vettel signing for any of the teams like Haas, Williams or Alfa Romeo...

Are bets allowed in here ? I hope so Smiley

I played over 15.5 classified riders @1.85 in F1 this weekend for medium stakes. Weather will be colder this time, which should help with the brakes getting too hot. Mercedes and Honda are said to have figured out what went wrong last week and should be able to fix it. Already in the last years we saw the cars getting more and more reliable and the number of cars completing the races went up steadily.

>15,5 cars classified:

2017: 60.0%
2018: 66.7%
2019: 90.5%

>17.5 cars classified:

2017: 15.0%
2018: 23.8%
2019: 66.7%

Overall cars are slower, for now, they are testing new things and not interest on pushing.

I think the same, most teams testing new parts today. By us in Austria it is very hot today and the next day very cold and maybe heavy rain so the can test or optimize the setup for the racing day. Tomorrow maybe heavy rain for the qualifying.

Slava Ukraini!
I was looking for the FP3 of the Austrian GP and I saw a shedule from SKY.

They added GP of Mugello and Russia to the official schedule!

Are these GPS now official too?
Yes, these GP's is official, it's already confirmed on F1 website:
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.formula-1-adds-mugello-and-sochi-to-revised-2020-f1-race-calendar.2tpfQ80LAax8Q0j0OIxdct.html
It will be interesting to see F1 race on Mugello track, while Sochi is one of the most boring tracks in F1.
Eventually they are going to add more GP's, like Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.

Or last year's accusations regarding the engine are correct and the engine don't have so many horse power bevor the accusatuions?

I doubt it, other teams were not using the same technology but with the new engine, they are slower than the past year too.
Everything can be but Ferrari should be slow only cause bad aerodynamic not for the engine, let see tomorrow and next week.

For a time ago i post a article that Ferrari works on an engine update,

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.54642410

but i don't know whether this update has already been used? Also Ferrari says the development going in the past in a wrong way at the aerodynamic thats correct. Alfa Romeo have more speed at the straightness than Ferrari. So this weekend wee will see.

As far as I know big updates should come on Hungaroring race, not before.I presume this is related to anything that has to do with engine upgrades and performance.

I already read the same, Ferrari have a big Problem at the the top speed.

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ferrari-upgrades-styrian-gp-vettel/4829138/?ic_source=home-page-widget&ic_medium=widget&ic_campaign=widget-1

Tomorrow and saturday it interested to see Ferrari make a turn around and the updates helps?

For sure they will improve if they really use these updates.
Keep also in mind they will not use all the 100% of updates they have still next GP.

A big question is why every team who uses the Ferrari engine is slower than the past year?

I mean Ferrari's top speed is slow since they made a new car to have more speed on turns, did other Ferrari's engine teams followed Ferrari philosophy?

Ok now is almost official, Ferrari will have a part of the upgrades tomorrow according to the sky.

https://sport.sky.it/formula-1/2020/07/09/f1-gp-austria-stiria-ferrari-news

They will have many new things but not all the package, the most important thing should be a new chassis to find a new balance for the downgrade force to gain speed.

The high speed was a disaster last GP, let see tomorrow if it will change.
