It will consume a lot of power. With the 1120 Core frequency, some cards will work with -100 mV. That will save you 20% energy.

Thank you for suggestion

I actually put all values to default - but mining speed remains on the level of 32MHs

So will leave like that for couple of hours

The 390 is power hogger, I once metered it at 270w per GPU full speed (31-32MHs) and at 6 cards, almost 2000w (when dual mining), when I had to do a 2 x PSU setup (1300w x 2).

Although it was nice to get a monster rig at 185-190MHs but you sacrifice a PSU (which you could have used for 2nd rig) and drawing too much power from a 20A power point (dangerous). Keeping this setting this way will be too dangerous and will surely kill your PSU sooner or later.

With several good tips from Philip and other senior members, I settled for 5 x PSU design, with max underclocking and slight overclocking using Afterburner. I may sacrifice some MHs, but it keeps the rig investment safe and also prolong life of PSU and avoid shorting your whole house! Also, you can certainly get more MHs from 2 rigs with 1 PSU each (ie. 5 x 390 = 151MHs with 1600w PSU, times 2 = 302 MHs total for 2 identical rigs).

Very very nice ! I'll consider buying one since the 1060 is just overprice in for now. I guess the power connector problems has been solved ?

Yes use new amd driver either 16.7.2 or 16.3.2

I've increased core clock to 1120 and left voltage and memory clock default

Got the mining increased from 29MHs to 32MHs

I like running windows 7 the asus boards form the 170 series were okay.

but my favorite z170 board is this one

I got this on sale for 110 from newer:
It fits 4  rx 480's on the board.

Hey Phil how's the heat with four video cards so close together.  I've had it with PCIe risers.  I've gone through so many bad risers and countless hours troubleshooting them that I'm pretty fed up with them.  I'm probably not going to build another rig any time soon but I'm keeping my options open.

well it is all 480's  I use 540 watts to get 95mh

I am using a corsair ax760 plat.

I will take some photos.

this board is really good in an open case.

four card rig room is 84f

the secret is the spacers from the hdmi jacks  of the video cards they allow for air to reach the fans

infra red gun reads 43 to 49 c

hottest card is 72c   worst hasher is 22h as it is the one that drives the display

You can use the MSI afterburner to undervolt and over clock the R9 390. I would recommend to use -100 mV and 1100/1200 frequency.

Trying right now - thank you!

Just got this to bed - and so far so good.

MSI R9-390
-100Mv / 1050 / 1125
5 x 390 = 151MHs

yeah I find -100 to -75 mv   with 1050 to 1075 work well for 390's

..   I GOT LUCKY I grabbed an uncle see screenshot.

They SAY  1 COMES  every 166 payouts  I got one in 6 payouts

9.47 payout vs  4.95

Nice one there!

My uncles are only 3.x or 2.x ETHs.... never got a nice fat payout like yours

Things have now regressed. I think my Mobo and CPU are struggling to boot all 3 cards. I have an older Z87 chipset and i7 875k CPU. It will not consistently recognize the cards. PCIe speeds are suspect at this point. I have to manually set Gen3 speed. It will not accept auto detect, nor and speeds below Gen3

Yes, I've abandoned using more than 2 cards with the Z87 board.  I cannot get it to post any more, no matter what I do.

So....  Any opinions out there on on a more modern motherboard?  I've seen the H81 Pro BTC, but the price of those seem to be largely inflated for obvious reasons.  Is that still the one to get, or are there other gems out there?

I tested a lot of mobos.

What socket is the i7 875k CPU?

Also do you have any CPUs other then that?

Yah, it's fairly old at this point: LGA1156.  It's a Lynnfield: pre-SandyBridge.

I have a SandyBridge 2500K, but that is my "daily driver".  I assume I'll be buying something newer.

I came across this H170A board :  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157683
And a CPU like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G3KG0145

Have you tested anything similar to this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-OEM-SR2L8-I5-6500T-6NM-Cache-and-up-to-3-1GHz-/122002379418?

I also have this cpu

I also have a g4400

and this seller on ebay has a g4400  I would offer him 49

MSI R9-390
-100Mv / 1050 / 1125
5 x 390 = 151MHs

what is the consumption of this setup? 5 x 200w right?

Around 1490-1520w according to kill-a-watt (all in).
I think more than 200w per GPU because CDM is mining in dual mode.

5x390/powered USB risers/ASrock H81-BTC/Celeron1840/8G Ram/120GB SSD/W8.1/Catalyst-16.3.2/EVGA1600w-G2
CDM v4.4, running ETH (-ethi 16) and DCR (default)
ETH: 30.2 MHs per GPU, 5 Total = 151 MHs
DCR: 453 MHs per GPU,  5 GPU Total = 2265 MHs
Temps = 68-70c

Afternotes:
I have not applied Eliovp's Nano mod yet but I have a 5 x Sapphire R9-Nano rig in production with settings:
-100mV, 1125, 300 delivering total 133.6MHs (ETH), 2004MHs (DCR) at only 1005watts.
With his mod, 6 x GPUs yields 185MHs using just over 1000 watts!
