You can use the MSI afterburner to undervolt and over clock the R9 390. I would recommend to use -100 mV and 1100/1200 frequency.

Trying right now - thank you!

Has anyone had luck with three 480 cards on Windows 10? The driver keeps crashing for me.

are you doing 16.7.2?

are you using claymore miner?

Guys,

Is any software in which I can play with overclocking parameters for my R9 390?

If so - any recommendations on clock/memory voltage etc?

Do you overclock your graphics cards? Did you use the latest driver which distribute the power properly?

I can also pick up 2 R9 290 for $300 CDN for both

40-50MH depending on which model and how well the cooling works, at reference-stock core and clock up the memory a bit.

290s soak a fair bit of power though, and they NORMALLY run pretty bloody hot.

Learn to love Delta case fans if you want to run more than 2 of them in a case - but if you can run caseless rig setup, MUCH MUCH better option.

The best case fan if you are attempting some silence is this one.

the delta are better but use more power you will need to use  the four pin molex connectors.  as most mobo fan headers will be pushed to hard to power a delta fan.

here is another good fan for a case.

this can plug into a mobo header it uses less power then the delta.

For case people I found this case

this case can fit and cool 4 nano r9's  the board can accommodate   4x r9 nano's

this would be a hell of a case setup   it would pull 720 watts.

 I do not have 4 nano r9's on my board I have 2 r9 nano's and 1 r9 380  I pull 580 to 620 watts .

I have yet to case this build up but I will soon.

Of the parts above  the silverstone fans are tricky to fit in every case.

the silvertone heat sink is great with t cpu's.    I can't say enough about how much I like it.   easy easy easy to mount it.

My guess is that power saved with the 4GB model because it runs at 1750 MHz.  To make it look like 4GB, and still have good performance, they just use half the memory rows.  If they only used half the memory chips, or half the memory banks, the performance would be crap.

Point being... do you really need to flash the 4GB bios to get the power savings?  Just wondering all this out loud.

No I can get to 269-273 watts for 2 8gb 480s and do  45mh
or do 297-312 watts for 2 8gb and do 49mh

or stay stock at 350-360 watts and do 49mh

the setting I use for my 8gb cards is saving 50watts and maybe ½ mh is lost

I don't complain and I am happy with it.

But I wish I had been able to buy 10 4gb cards at 199.99 each  simply for the 2000 dollar cost for 10

I have 5  8gb cards at a cost of 1300  or a 260 price each vs 200 each.

Since none of the stores seem to have 480s in stock, I've been looking on CL for used items.  What is the expected hashrate of an R9 390X, and power draw?  Worth it at $200?

I get 58mh for 2 r9 390s

I spend 500 watts.

I get 73 mh for 3 rx 480s

I spend 430 watts

Kilo17 has some new 480s he is an honest guy

I would spend the extra for the 480s and save the power.

But my power is not cheap for my eth rigs.

If you have really cheap power the r9 390s may be better. Your power over 11 cents get the rx 480 from kilo17

out of the box, no mods or OC, 6 x RX480 eats 1250watts, on my EVGA1300 quite steadily hashing 24.5 x 6 = 147MHs-148MHs. Couldnt wait to undervolt this setup and save on power even more - maybe under 1000 watts - I will be happy.

on the other hand, 5 x 390s (-100mV undervolt, slightly OC) eats 1450watts on my EVGA1600, but rock solid stable at 149MHs-150MHs. Edit: Had a 6 x 390 config for awhile but it just exceeds 1600w and I didn't want to strain the expensive PSU.

finally, 6 x Nanos with Heliox ROM Mod -125mV, 1250watts hashing 175MHs, rock stable.

As far as raw power is concerned, the 390s is very good and very quiet (MSI 390 with Twin Frozz fans).

But the 480s are really excellent - as good as Nano at half the price.

Yeah  it is easy to drop the  power down with wattman.

 with a simple wattman adjustment:

My rig with 3 rx 480s does 73mh at 442 watts.   6.05 watts an mh

With more complex tweaks I can do 67mh at 390 watts that is 5.82 watts a mh

I have seen some get to 5 watts a mh with all 4gb cards

So maybe you want to try to flash your 8 GB cards to 4GB and save some energy. 4 GB extra uses too much power.

No need my margins work with the 8gb and resale will be pretty easy down the road.

my r9 390 over clocked to 1150 core, gpu ram 1500 (cannot under clock), monitored and customized through MSI AB

I'm getting 32.x MH with 650 MH on DCR (Dual mining mode)

Will play with BIOS on overclocking too

Question on DCR - does it worth to mine it?

Which pool and what is the exchange rate to ETH (or BTC)?

There is no problem. If you use the mod nano BIOS, it consumes about 1050W to have 180MH/s rate.

Thank you!

it does around 28-32 mh tops.   but it is thinner and use far less power.

Phil,

Can one squeeze 6 of Nanos with one PSU 1300W?
