Hi NEM community,

i quietly follow cryptos for a while and i feel NEM has a high potential to become something big. I guess beside getting a high marketcap it should be our goal to attract more people to NEM. Therefore i prepared a draft of a "bitcoin-paper-wallet" like NEM voucher.
As we have no logo yet it is just a first draft and i will finalize it later.

I am going to print such vouchers, preload them with ~100NEM and bring them into public. I will give them to friends, "forget" them in favorite restaurants, pin them to a black board, give them to people that have nothing to do with cryptos at all etc.
Maybe i will add a "valid until" date an reclaim back all NEM that have not been redeemed within a year or so to be sure that no NEM will be lost in space.
If every stakeholder releases just 10 of this vouchers we can easily reach ~30000 additional people and bring them into NEM.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/t59yx73tyw4pgav/NEM_Voucher1.jpg
https://www.dropbox.com/s/noeultctxi384ig/Printed.jpg

I would like to know if there will be an "import private key" function in the NEM community client and how to create a NEM address key pair for the voucher? Is the proposal for a NEM from the initial development plan still valid and will we use "standard base32" encoded addresses? Maybe the devs can help me with my questions?

Thank you all for your hard work in NEM!

This is Fantastic idea! We need to have this vouchers and exactly in many languages(at least 4 : EN, DE,FR,RU)
Thank You Dear friend for Great Idea!

I almost had a heart attack!!! a few minutes ago I logged in to my next wallet using the security phrase and by my surprise I did have a different ID code and my next and nem stake was not there, it was like a new account and I said....WHERE IS MY PRECIOUS NEM STAKE??? I was panicking not knowing what to do, I said this is a nightmare! I decided to log out and log in using the same security phrase again and this time thanks to GOD the right ID code and my Precious Stake was there!!! did someone experience this?

If  you mistype password that will happen. If you are copying and pasting password from notepad I heard sometimes it adds extra space in the beginning or end.  Use password managers. They are secure and encrypt your passwords locally. The master password for password manager doesn't have to be as long as Nxt password. Just any 10 to 12 char password will be fine.  There is Keypass. I use Lastpass https://lastpass.com/

I switched over to Lastpass a few months ago after reading the NXT posts. I'm soooo happy I did. No going back now. Better security. Cross platform sync.  Much longer and better passwords.

Another vote for LastPass, I have been using it for over a year. I supplement the security of the master password with two factor authentication in the form of a YubiKey (from Yubico). I feel this brings a high level of security and convenience

Looking at bitcoin client downloads by country should help us to prioritize languages. Recently Vietnam has been at the top. Maybe because of fears of war with their large neighbor.

to have bit better data, you'd probably have to take longer timespan and divide it by country's population using computers (or at least by population) (results would be REALLY interesting to see)

I created a trello card to keep all our language experts in one place: https://trello.com/c/xFYUmQvT

(feel free to add yourself)

I've just recently started using Trello and I would like to join the translation group/card. I would like to help with translating everything that is needed into Croatian.
I don't see an option to add myself to the card and I cannot edit/add anything. Also, why are some cards grey and some white? (Still learning Trello).

Passwords, lost, stolen, ... the same "old" subjects Smiley
place.)

I have never "lost" a password or ever being hacked and I have been around for years.  Lastpass is perfectly safe as encryption is done locally on computer.  Don't do stupid things like click on executable downloadable from untrusted sources. For extra paranoids, I also recommend something like https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Quote
I still skip password generators and password managers Smiley  When being skeptic enough, nothing in the computer is in safe. At least a copy of the password must be written in paper/wood/rock/younameit in safe place.)

If that makes you happy, be my guest, but that is not good advice. Most humans will never generate more random password than cryptographically secure random generator. Plus for vast majority of people password managers are much safers for several reasons

(1) Users can use unique passwords for each site (very important security step) without having to memorize hundreds of unique passwords. I have over 350 passwords.
(2) The encryption key is derived by key stretching of master password  (thousands of SHA256 operations)  so even if in unlikely scenario vault file  is stolen,  brute force attack would still be very difficult.
(3) The user can enable two factor authentication for extra security
(4) Most password managers have have  some protection against keyloggers (auto fills, two factor authentication, online keypad, one time passwords, etc).
(5) It's easy to backup passwords securely -- losing passwords due to hard drive crash is just bad as getting them stolen.

The bottom line: Even if a user has very weak master password for password manager, it's highly likely he will still never get hacked. Weak password for Nxt itself means getting hacked immediately 100%

Hi all Nemster, we have 2800 stakeholders. Some are sockpuppets. Some are selling at the first chance they have. But if you decide to stay for a while longer, then let's work to build an awesome community. Let's make NEM a place everyone wants to join in and build up the value of the brand. I am sure we can do that if we work together: developers, writer, marketer, translators, photographers, lawyers, etc. all are welcomed.

I prepared a survey that could help with the planning of marketing and ecosystem infrastructure for NEM and if you decide to stay and help, please fill it out.

This is different from the Swarm list managed by Erkki12. This will be used for a comprehensive strategy that never be seen in the crypto world. (serious).

Good work @utopianfuture. We should make NEM too good to be ignored. Lets do this.

Use KeePass password manager it works great. It's free and open source. http://keepass.info

Two tips:

To be secured against keyloggers, enable the "Two-channel auto-type obfuscation" checkbox. http://keepass.info/help/v2/autotype_obfuscation.html

When generating a password, enable the "Collect additional entropy" checkbox.

As a note, for the ecosystem sites (like the blockchain explorer), we are planning to support multiple languages at the beginning, like English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese.

We need someone good at French and Spanish right now.

If anyone wants more languages, then please volunteer to help translate. I'd really love to get Russian, Czech, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Thai, Bhutanese, and Nepalese there as well.
please add portuguese  Cry
if you can speak portaguese, why not help translate. i dont think google will be up to the task lol we all know how that normally turns out! :L

yes, before any language gets added with googletrans/babelfish rather not add it at all. Blockchain.info is HORRIBLE on multilanguage because they used something like this. A software that handles millions of USD shouldn't be made like that!

Blockchain.info's Japanese seems to be reasonable.

We don't plan to use google translate, but rather to use our 3000 stakeholders to help us translate Cheesy

Will the NEM client have multilingual support? Multiple language support is important.

"Globally, consumers are spending an estimated $694 billion online this year, according to Common Sense Advisory [1]. Approximately 96 percent of global consumers live outside of the United States [2], and 70 percent of global Web users visit websites in their own language [3]. According to research firm IDC, web users are four times more likely to make a purchase from a company if the company communicates in the buyers language."

yes!!!! 100%.. this is a must! even if its just english and chinese at first! then move on to spanish and french!

Language size: http://www.ethnologue.com/statistics/size

I'd like to see language size stats for people with computers.

could you retrieve info and how many clients are using a particular language? i think that would be interesting to see.. probably not doable though is it?

has any one ever looked into what crypto records nem has broken?

like most coin announcement thread views for an un-launched coin?

most coin announcement thread views for an un-launched coin that hasnt release any software?

most coin announcement thread replies for a coin that has not launched?

most coin announcement thread replies for a coin that has not released any software?

most participants in an ipo like call for participation?

most devs working on an unlaunched coin?

highest marketcap of an unreleased coin (i think we would only need to beat maidsafe here.. could be wrong)

any other records im forgetting that could apply?

Definitely worth noting but should it be emphasized?
why not? if people here of this unknown coin thats broken all these records.. theyl be thinkin, damn.. i better check this out...

Indirectly, and changing the topic, this led me to think of an "achievement" list within the NEM client - equivalent to the achievements you see on Xbox Live and in PC / Console Gaming.

Achievements is essentially an addicting mini-game in recreational video gaming, which encourages the user to devote more hours to the game in question to unlock these achievements (I don't know how to better explain this idea but anyone who plays Xbox Live or Steam PC Games would know what I am talking about).

You could effectively create a wide range of NEM achievements, some of them fairly easy to achieve and others more difficult or borderline impossible.

Interesting idea to use gamification to encourage usage of NEM. In general, I'm a big believer of it. Learning websites like Khan Academy have used it really successfully. I hadn't given it much thought in this context of crypto-currency, but it is a very interesting idea.

Of course, gamification could be taken too far, like http://www.ribbonhero.com/ Smiley.

It would be great if we could add gamification to our client. Give every user the chance to start equal and allow them to do simple things which will help secure and expand NEM while promoting them in rank. The rank could be defined as 3 - 5 stages with some cool names and could be calculated as a combination of reputation(or karma) and achievements unlocked which raise your importance to the network. Through this we could add a more social and psychological reward layer to those important to the network in addition to the economic one.

Would something like that be hard to implement? If so maybe we could keep it in mind for some later iterations.

I think maybe boosting your importance score could be like gamification. We're going to display each account's importance in the client, so that should be interesting for the user.

About NEM wallet logon security, I suggest  just like blockchain Wallet:
1、Wallet ID code
2、Password
3、Google Authenticator
Rather than NXT Wallet, only a secret phrase,Although very long, dozens of character。
In addition, It is easy to remember

Someone already stated that it is very hard to use google authenticator for a blockchain, if not impossible.

The point being, you can block a login to a centralised service with GA, but not a static login like a privat key.
I've been using Google authenticator for a long time, very convenient. As a backup, I will also registered in my IPHONE and IPAD, lost any of them it doesn't matter

Yes, google authenticator is nice. But you can't use it with wallets. You can only use it with services!
