I'd never gamble in front of anyone in the first place. It ruins the mood and the overall experience for me. This is why I chose to do online gambling to begin with: to gamble alone and at peace without anyone in sight. I'm not sure about other people here but I for sure, won't gamble in front of anyone especially my kids. It's more of a personal preference than me trying to protect my kids in the future and I'd stick with it. Of course, I can still educate my child/children regarding gambling and its possible negative effects, but using a different approach.

always best not to gamble in front of them or don't let them know that you are into gambling to begin with. you don't know what ideas they will think about on you or on gambling itself. they are still young to learn the nature of this activity. adults at least should know their responsibilities when it comes to gambling.
Kids used to follow what we do. This is common with the kids, and we need to be responsible staying away from them while gambling. This generation of kids were much connected to digital gadgets and they easily find what we were doing. During their playful days they easily get interested on games, and the same could easily land them on gambling. For the same we shouldn't be the root cause.
Children usually like new things, they always want to do what adults do, therefore, to prevent this, we should stay away and not gamble in public places.
In my own neighborhood there are also many adults who gamble openly in public and that really makes me sad because I'm afraid that children will follow the path of these adults. And you are right in saying that today's children are connected to gadgets and online gambling is widespread everywhere, it is not impossible that they can access this if they are not supervised when using gadgets.
Your children's future is still long, don't let your gambling habits influence your children's minds to do bad things for their future.

Children always select those fields in which their parents are interested may be its better or worst but they always choose that path as parents habits has a great impact on children's behavior.

Parents should teach their children about good and bad habits because if they don't learn from them they will never learn. Remember that your children are yours shadows so wherever you go they will follow you.

There are many parents who themselves are a part of gambling but they don't show about it to their children and give their children a lesson of good things as a result of which their gambling have no adverse effects on their children.

If parents are smoking in front of their children so you have seen that how their children quickly copy them so same is the case with gambling therefore always try to not play gambling of if you don't move way from it then at least don't involve your children in it.

Of course we should not gamble in front of our kids, because it will make them curious of what we are doing and keep asking about it and maybe they will ask to try it. It means that we have to choose the best time to gamble to avoid them watch us unintentionally while we are playing gambling. We should also minimize the chance of our kids accessing our browser as they may find it in the history of somewhere else in the browser.
Very much agree with you, and even though it very much depends on the type of game you are playing, like for example, if you are playing a slot game, most slot games looks like some video games we normally play on our phones and computer, I would say that, it's actually not entire wrong to allow them watch us play slot games since they probably assume it to be a video game, most especially, if the child is still very young in age and likely don't know how to read yet.

For the a bit grown ones, the teenagers who already know how to read, it's bet to completely shut them off from our computer so they don't end up accessing some stuff we don't want them accessing.

Parents are the first role model to their kids, and whatever that they see you doin, they will also want to do such. This is the reason why parents shouldn't gamble in the presence of their kids because they will think that it is something good and they may try it later.

Children these days are too smart and learn very fast, whatever that you know isn't good for then, then there is no need for you to do that in their presence, if you really want to keep them away from it. It is better that they learn from their friends, because you can correct them but when they learn from you, how will you correct them.

I'm sharing this because I saw this issue with my kiddo who was once watching me gamble at a website playing blackjack and she started asking me more about the game. Then one day, she wanted to play it herself and asked me if she can go for it and I said "no, it's not your legal age to go for such games". So, it's better to keep our kiddos away from gambling and let them focus on their studies, else it'd actually ruin everything for the whole family if the kid takes the wrong path.

Children are innocent souls who tend to imitate their parents. They have a curious mind, the main reason they ask questions all the time. If your child sees you gambling or anything illegal for her age accidentally, they won't ask any questions. If that is not the case then what happened to you would happen to every parent. What you did was the right thing to answer her question and inform her about the legal age. In the future when she reaches her legal age she can make the decision.

My recommendation to you is to stop gambling when she is around in the house. Since it is her growing years it is better to indulge with her in other activities when she is in the house. It would create an impression that her father is no longer active in gambling or has stopped gambling. It will help her to concentrate on her studies and daily activities rather than thinking about it.

It may stick to her mind for a while. She may forget it after a few days or weeks but the moment she sees a card, she will be reminded of it. But then anyway, she will learn about it maybe in her teen years.

A father will always remind their children not to do casino stuff but kids find their way to it when they grow older. It's best they know there is legal age for it and consequences when playing while not of legal age.

Right now you forbid gambling because of age and support the idea of not gambling in front of kids. But what would be your attitude, if you win a millions? I think you wont hide your happiness, you would shout "YES!" like crazy or something like that, you would change your lifestyle after that. How you gonna explain it your kid? My point is - when we just gamble or lose, than gambling is not for kid, it is illegal, not for your age and etc. But when we win a lot, then "you've said you always wanted alive pink unicorn with giraffe and dinosaurs? here you are, we are rich now, enjoy life, forget about studies".

Dude, thanks a lot as you fulfilled my wish and filled me with joy and happiness as I was literally awaiting for such a response. Now, I've got something to tell you and the whole community.

Let's say for example, a guy is a beggar.
He begs daily and earns more than a software engineer can, each month (and I'm honestly speaking truth because I know some beggars who give a million dollars as a loan each month to people at 5% interest rate). Okay, he's got kids. Now, he still sends his kids to government schools but doesn't compromise with the nurturing part of his kids and grows them up in a very simple manner. Now, his kids become adults and one of them becomes an engineer and the other one becomes doctor based on their skills and capabilities as they managed to get a scholarship and did everything on their own. Now, both earn a lot collectively and always keep asking their father to stop begging but their father says that whatever he did before, he found happiness in it because he was able to grow up his kids through that begging, and now he's doing it for his own happiness because now he's used to it. He says that he earns too much, however he never wanted his sons to become what he had been (a beggar I mean), so he did whatever he can to make his kids reputable so that they could live their life with ultimate respect in the society.

You know what? It totally depends upon your mentality and how you deal with each situation. It's not necessary that even if you win a million dollar today, you'd just ask your kids to enjoy their life as they became rich. What if he gambles away all the money again because of his greed and loses everything? So what I'd do is, I'd simply save 80% of the money that I won, on the name of my kids so that their future is secured. Rest 20% is enough to live a simple yet king sized life with my life till they grow up, and I'll definitely teach them the value of every cent before they spend it, so that they don't commit any mistake in the future. Especially, I won't ask my kids to gamble ever in any case, even if I win a 100 million dollar lottery. Smiley

Well that is a really long post to read Cheesy

I have also something to tell whole community. Why gambling in front of kids is a problem? Why they should not watch me gambling? Because gambling is bad? Because it is illegal? Because it is wrong? Because people should be ashamed of gambling? Oohhh... I know the answer to all of this questions. Because of gambling addiction. I think I am gonna say something stupid and unique, probably gonna open someone's eyes - those who gamble, not always turn into addicted people. And gambling addicted person is not always a broke, financially and mentally person.

You are 100% correct about mentality. I would add education also. Educate your kids properly, teach them right things and they would always know where is the edge, when it is time to stop. Otherwise, you can ban, hide, limit your kids from gambling or everything, but they will get addicted to something through their friend and surrounding anyway.

P.S.

Never read in front of your kids - they might get addicted to reading, lose sight.
Never do sport sport in front of your kids - they might get addicted to it and get injured one day.
Never run in front of your kids - they might get addiction to running. Walking is better, no need to hurry, let whole world wait.
...
Never in front of your kids. I can create such rules endlessly Grin

Kids do whatever they see their parents doing, so it's not only about gambling but anything that isn't to be learned by kids shouldn't be done in front of them. Upbringing plays a great role in shaping the future of a child whether it's a girl or a boy. If parents teach their kids good things and avoid showing them or letting them watch things that aren't appropriate for their age, they will surely not get involved in activities that might be harmful to them in the long run.

That's why, as parents, it's important for us to be careful with all these things. We should keep telling them what isn't good for them and they shouldn't do that, I think we should also not tell them that they can do that once they reach a certain age because that will only make them curious and they may want to try it before that time this way but they won't do it if we tell them it isn't for them and they should stay away from it.

Hey gamblers' community, hope you're all doing great.
I wanted to convey my message here that gambling in front of our kids may put adverse effects on their growing minds and they may also take the wrong path and start gambling (either by asking you personally for funds or by stealing it in order to fulfill their gambling cravings).

It is better to keep gambling away from children because the present age of children is the learning age. At this time if kids get addicted to gambling then their reading will be ruined and later they will start earning in easy way and forget reality. They will realize their laziness towards the fact that they actually have to work hard to earn and they will later choose gambling as an easy process. And if there is a loss then the whole family will be destitute because once the person becomes addicted to gambling it will be difficult to come back. So it is better to teach children education and everyone is better to gamble away from children.

With this story, isn't it true that our gambling activities should be carried out more privately, meaning we can't play just anywhere, do it in secret not because we are embarrassed but rather to avoid things like what you experienced?
I see how gamblers can play via their smartphones and it's done openly, I think it shouldn't be especially when it's seen by children that they think it's interesting to do and they just think it's like a normal game but actually, it's not and when they already like it it will be difficult to stop them and they may even find a way to fund their game account so they can play.
Adults must be responsible for their gambling, including playing in places that are not public places and seen by people who are not allowed to gamble because his age is not yet in the adult category.

i dont have kids but if i did  i would never ever let them come close to gambling let alone gamble myself infront of them.

I  believe gambling  is one of the worst addictions a person can have and it would make me a failure as a father if i let my kids get into it
The reasoning you put forward as a conscious guardian is truly commendable as a proper father would never engage in gambling in front of his children. But most of the people who participate in gambling in our country are uneducated and they do not take any privacy approach to indulge in gambling and casino. Most of the people in our country participate in gambling in public and they gamble in front of small children in schools, colleges and Shishu Vidyaniketans which have a bad effect on the mental development of children. But every conscious guardian and citizen must take a plan from the government to take strict punitive measures against these gamblers.

Children learn much more from their parents' example than from what they say.
Just as you shouldn't smoke, drink alcohol or watch pornography in front of your children, you shouldn't play gambling in front of them if your parents don't want them to "follow this example".

Unlike alcohol or drug addiction, in which the symptoms are physically noticeable, gambling addiction presents less obvious signs and therefore many parents will not even notice this habit in children who gamble in secret. Therefore, the later they start gambling, knowing how to control their emotions and impulses, the better it will be for their financial and social lives.

The children are like their parents,if the father is gambler and son will be the gambler.Because as per the scientific experiments done by the experts, they found the inherit habit of the parents will be in the blood of their children. It mean the gambler children will have the gambling addiction by nature. This not only to the gambling addiction but also to the activity of the parent like spending of the money on their expenses. So if the parent was linear in spending the money on the expenses, one of his child will do like them.So if the gambler get addicted itself made their children to gambling addiction from the inherit habits.

I agree. Children's minds are like sponges. But instead of soaking up water, they soak up experiences that they see from the actions of adults. Especially when it comes to actions of their parents. Gambling, drugs, alcohol, smoking, swearing and all bad character traits could become a permanent component of the childs personality, later on in life. This is because their brains are still growing, and the neural network is still forming. Anything that disturbs this process could end up permanently altering the child for the worse.

But then again, hiding the truth from the child to the extreme also does not work. If you pamper a child too much, they will grow up without necessary life skills, and something like that can be just as damaging to them, later in life.
I think it all boils down to the particular age of the child because I believe some kids have a level of understanding at some specific age while other are just like plain slate ready to be filled up with gibberish or meaningful habit depending on the particular one they are exposed to. And also environment also determines because there are some certain things you do as a father that you would be very cautious about because if the environment that your kids are exposed to.

You shall buy her new toys. It's very bad to see kids will be replicating our activity like playing gambling if they saw that. I think that you shall gamble privately once none was close to you.
Our kid can also try to imitate our activities. Sometimes, they were indirectly aware of our activities. Im always hiding once im willing to play it. Since my wife has no problem with it but i just avoid to play it once i was with my kid.

Try to make her busy by giving her some tasks. Im not yet allowing her to deal with gadget. Im seeing some cases in my country kids being addicted to the gambling.
It's give very bad impact as they have no control over their emotions.
