To clarify do you need both 5 postings and 4 hours online continuously?

Not continuously, but otherwise yes. You need both.

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)

To clarify do you need both 5 postings and 4 hours online continuously?

I think using this kind of system has its good points and bad points.

On the positive side, it puts up another hurdle to fend off unwanted individuals.

On the negative side, for those of us who only like to post when we have something meaningful to say - it is a little frustrating, as we have to make pointless posts.

Like this one.

Jail eh, never been jailed on a forum before but I guess it is better than people trolling the bitcoin forums.

Just my two cents, but when joining and saw the restrictions I thought that it was a really good idea. This keeps the joint respectable Smiley

Would be interested in the results of this (imho reasonable) way to fight off troll accounts. Are these 4 hours and 5 posts really enough?

I'm Jim, or Carl, or something (trust no one!).

I need BTC! I'm not going to lose them all on satoshidice this time though. I'm going to spend them wisely!

I wish, the guest in my bar would show as much understanding as the Newbies here at the forum (me included).

Start this out in real life!!
