Seems good to prevent spammers from creating and posting. Honestly I didn't even find out about the newbie section and was wondering why i couldn't post for a couple of days.

Yeah, what he said. I don't find myself with much to say on the forum so I remain a lurker, but I will continue to make brief and/or unnecessary posts in order to rid myself of the newbie tag. What will I do once I have done so? I do not know.
This is a difficult rule for those of us who prefer silence

So, as a newbie, I'm restricted to posting in Bitcoin Forum > Other > Newbies only. As someone who's only a month into mining and barely able to cash out my work, I'm not really sure what I can add to these conversations that would be novel, or not terribly repetitive. Besides asking a probably-stupid question like this.

Truth to be told, 5 posts is very reasonable. 
Anti-spam measure ? I think newbies already spam enough no intended, just to be able to post on other areas of the forum also.
