Hmmm. At my current rate it will take me 13 years to acquire my first whole bitcoin.
My laptop is cranking away at 385 Khps.

You have to stop doin' that to your equipment.. it's pointless, the only thing you can gain is a brocken laptop Smiley

Take a look at litecoin mining Tender -

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Litecoin
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-litecoin-a-lite-version-of-bitcoin-launched-47417

It's more suited when you're mostly using your cpu than your GPU.

You'll mine litecoins (essentially a simpler version of bitcoint with a different design objective than bitcoin) which can be exchanged for bitcoin.

Maybe this page (or a newbie greeting topic) should be on the frontpage for newbies.
I had to use the search page to find this topic (i know thats what its made for, but it should be more clear)

Anyway, nice to meet you all, looking forward to reading a lot about Bitcoins!

Thanks for setting the Bar at a point that a new starter like me is able to reach without spending weeks here first.

SF.

Great idea isn't it mate?

Also kind ensures people have to read up on Bitcoins before steaming in with ridiculous questions!

Awesome community!

Seems like a good idea for me. Means as a newbie myself I can get an idea of who to trust myself, without having to read between the lines..

I wish these restrictions had been a bit clearer when I signed up a month ago, oh well.

Mainly signed up to get access to the ignore button, waited really long with signing up here, because of these newbie restrictions.

I understand the need of making some kind of rules but wouldn't be easier to ban the problem posters?

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)

Thanks  for posting these restrictions

Understandable and fair.  Spammers are beyond annoying.  Good job.
