How does the 4 hours online actually work? As in 4 hours worth of posting on here?

Lurking, reading.
Damn it, I've certainly read more than 4 hours here, but not as a registered user.  Grin

5 posts here before you can post elsewhere. I understand the need to control trolls but this is only going to slow them down a little while keeping sincere people from interacting for much longer periods. Please abandon the 5 post requirement and deal with trolls on a 1 to 1 basis. Thanks
If only there was 1 to 1 basis for bots who spam this forums. We need someone to program an AI moderator.

After we meet both requirements, are we granted full access immediately?

It's automated, so could take up to 10 minutes.

Yes. And in fact, you are already granted full posting capability.

I'm curious what you would suggest. It would seem that since you have to check that box in order to register, it's not the forum admins' fault that some users don't bother reading.

In light of what's been going on, my suggestions to the forum admin(s) would be maybe trying to make the initial sign up text as short as possible, maybe highlighting important phrases in bold (see http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9710a.html), since that would help reduce TL;DR syndrome, and possibly put a note on the other forum pages where the post botton otherwise would be just in case it's somehow still missed, but other than that… it's up to the users to at least pay attention to and scan through the rules and such. Wink
