Noble is about to enter a zone of no return soon :/

All it takes is 2 BTC to bring it back to 20 satoshi. Maybe so dirty whale is accumulating.
But I do agree that the price is falling dangerously low.

Price fall happening with many other coins too Sad

Is it going to be another few weeks/months before POS or are actions being taken to do this ASAP? NOBL is running out of time! 7 today, 8 yesterday , at this rate will be at 1 sat within a week or so.
Is there anyway if BTC/NOBL was raised by the community this could be done quicker?Huh

Yeah, and our discussion enters the area of question "do we need the law and law enforcement - police, courts etc. to prevent activities that harm other people?"

If such a marketplace will be decentralized/distributed AND anonymous, I find it very difficult even to moderate - how can you stop banned people from creating new, fake identities and continuing their plan?

Would a voting/rating/trust system be enough?
Other ideas?

IMO I think realistically it would need a group of mods. Anything that blatantly breaks the rules should be removed immediately, and items that are in a grey area should be voted against.
A big part of the reason that The Silk Road was so successful was the rules against scamming and the great customer service that came about because of that. http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-08/21/buying-drugs-on-the-dark-net

I'm back everyone Smiley Moved 7/31/2014 to my new home, didn't have internet for a week and a half, and then when I finally got my internet up my computer broke Sad $850 repair bill later and I'm back!

Good to have You back!

Why are people so obcessed with anonimity?
Merchants can't be anonymous... If you have a problem with the product you bought, you need to know who to complain to.
And if we want to go mainstream, obviously the marketplace has to be something legit that people can trust. And people don't trust in a no-faced merchant.

Crypto purist just have to get used to the idea of centralization.

PS: I know no one likes Seaman, but this is worth the watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFWV-mfMdw8&list=UUesJUsXCpAdKaLzdrYBi5wQ
Bryce discusses exactly what we're talking about.

I don't think anyone was suggesting anything Noble related become anonymous. I think it goes against the core principals of Noble.

But...I also think that if you told someone who didn't know about crypto that you could see what payments they made publically that they would not like that either.

Yes, though things could be turning around, besides people posting lots of private stuff on social networks, what they like, read or buy are for all practical purposes already accessible to those that want it, at least as statistical data for advertisers.

There is a drastic information asymmetry, companies, banks, "well-connected" people can get a lot more information on us peasants than we have on them.
The current fiat anonymity is for all practical purposes limited to preventing neighbors from knowing the finances of each other, and for that purpose, pseudonimity is enough I think.

but it just isn't feasible in the crypto arena, or probably actually in the rest of the world.

Indeed.

Agreed, totally unregulated does not work with human nature and has geen shown Time and Time again in This scene..

Only crypto purists will complain about This form of regulation, others will want and need it ultimately.

I'm a big fan of how OpenBazaar is coming along but the backlash on crypto. from the illegal listings isn't helping imho (NXT marketplace looks solid but it's already full of stuff hurting their image a lot). The marketplace can become our Amazon and OpenBazaar will be deployed, although I'm tempted to do some sort of 'round-table' where two-dozen or so of the most support community members can vote to ensure illegal and damaging listings are removed (hurts from a decentralized purist perspective but I just don't see hard drugs and child porn. being an acceptable part of decentralization).

The illegal stuff is IMHO why decentralized marketplaces can't and won't work in the long term. Mainstream users will never want to be associated with it, so they have little to no chance of becoming another ebay or Amazon, and will at best emulate SilkRoad (and be cracked upon by law enforcement regularly, because well, no matter how secure the block-chain anonymity features may be, there is a lot of information leaked at the real-world interface).

However I think there is a place for a "clean" crypto, that would emphasize openness and clarity, and that could be Noble's place.

Likely I'm a utopian, but I think that fiat makes it way too easy for them to perform shady dealings, from money laundering to money printing. If one day crypto replaces fiat, I would rather it be a "clean" crypto that would allow public access and scrutiny rather than just an electronic fiat-like anonymous means of payment.

But hey, that's may just be me Wink

I'm with you. I think that a coin will never become mainstream if it has a history of dark dealings and shadiness, an everyday person wouldn't want to be associated with it. But...I also think that if you told someone who didn't know about crypto that you could see what payments they made publically that they would not like that either. Not that I am for anonymity, I think that if all coins were anonymous that the government would crack down on it a lot more, just stating the facts.

Same with the marketplace. I guess the sad thing is that in this scene we are going to need some kind of moderation (same way ebay does) in order to not become full of general nastiness and rubbish. I think we would have to set down a plain list of rules and then make sure that they are adhered to. I realise that an unmoderated marketplace would be more preferable, but it just isn't feasible in the crypto arena, or probably actually in the rest of the world.

Open Bazaar is nearer than you might think. I saw a demo in Raleigh recently, it's almost all working and the beta is next month with most good features. Might be a good idea to start thinking about a fork and supporting NOBL there, after the current development efforts for the PoS etc. have been completed.
Yes.

NobleRoad is a decentralized marketplace proof of concept. It is based off the OpenBazaar fork, which itself is based off of the POC code by the darkmarket team and protected by the GPL.

Yeah Twitter is full of the shills selling coins 'promising/working' on delivering centralized & decentralized marketplaces yet we're generally ignored for now despite our marketplace focus. Tongue

Believe me I try on Twitter.. 1224 Tweets (80% NOBL, 20% crypto.) and counting.

I'll come up with a bit of a 'where we're at with finances' page to better explain what I meant. We're more thinking compensation for external work. I'd rather not be in control or receive that to be free from any negative scrutiny or sentiment. This only applies to work from people who aren't happy to accept and hold NOBL (those who believe in it longer-term) - otherwise we're always happy to pay from reserves. We have a couple of guys (Pikuchato being the perfect example) getting ready to join and chime in with development, but to be more competitive and attract the contractors that work from coin to coin decent amounts of BTC is preferred.

Because we knew we could take this on ourselves rather than ask for money we've asked for some patience, although I'm extremely jealous (and sceptical) of the SYS/Moolah fiasco and amounts of IPO money being thrown around with UseCoin and a dozen others. Selling NOBL as is in this market and depressing prices further is generally frowned upon rather than holding it and pushing forward for now (hence why I've been buying when I can to try and back up my constant talk with some action).

I've current got my eye on everything: Stats, theme switching, exchange markets (just in-wallet), coin control (a given), p2p encrypted messaging, stealth addresses (for these two we'll let the hype die down and not cause drama with the coins pushing those so as not to start trouble), more QR support. I like decentralized usernames and we're debating whether to keep transaction messages. I can handle half of those, the other half will be handled by partner developers.

We're not a fan of stuff in the wallet/on the blockchain for the sake of it just this early. Decentralized and 'on the blockchain' are great catchphrases but if the features/usability don't beat things like Magento/WooCommerce or Bittrex/Vault of Satoshi then it's just not ready to make a real difference for public consumption yet (I'm thinking years).

I believe in decentralization and p2peer but until a marketplace has this: https://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/magento-feature-list.pdf it just won't compete with centralization/fiat for a mainstream audience. I think OpenBazaar will get there but not for some time (we're keeping up to date and talking with an extra potential team member or two to have these more public this year). That can always be followed here: https://github.com/jlcurby/NobleRoad/commits. It's a little behind because to be honest the 100s of BTC thrown at UseCoin and other coins promising awesome decentralized 'marketplaces' (BS that turn into scams) while we suffer a little turned me off keeping it up to date for the time being. https://marketplace.noblemovement.com is still going strong and we'll be adding more digital products soon and doing further promo.

Our biggest problem right now and the reason for the delays/quiet period comes down to money. Money (or BTC) talks here and currently we have very next to none when compared to the coins/IPOs ('scams', misleading or otherwise) and groups making mega-bucks. Sure we're legit, honest, etc. but the NobleCoin approach in the altcoin space does not make noise or money. That's been prioritised now, and it might be a month or two until finalized, but some people in the altcoin sphere now have an idea on what I've been doing for a lot of this year. We'll be noticed soon enough.

Yes.

Altcoin scene is not really designed to reward long term, honest and hard working projects - but rather is mostly driven purely out of short term greed. This does not reward a solid investment, but rather rewards ponzi scams and get rich quick attitudes.

Professionals will change the scene soon enough. In all honesty if you were to treat this as a stock investment or 'real world' investment, last 8 months have been next to nothing in terms of potentials it holds.
