Doomed to see the future and unable to prevent it
don't see why windows is the problem, alot are runing windows on their rigs

Winblows OS/drivers are smarter than you. Didn't you know that? Tongue

Do you have a dummy plug or video cable plugged in?

Edit: Also do you mean an actual PCI slot or PCI-E?

Yes tried hdmi,db-15 and dummy.

And yes Actual PCI slot. Wink

I'll post how when I get it sorted.

Just sold 4 or 5 days of doge and bought noble. Smiley

Got new R9-270 today and trying to get it to run off of a PCI slot (YUP that's right). I have drivers installed and Miner recognizing card but refused to hash so far. Sad May be the mobo. Probably because It's a winblows machine. I may have to go Linux. Heading back to play with it some more.

remember asics are not neccesairily a bad thing. they help secure the blockchain and make it harder to do a 51% attack.

Asics are not a bad thing. The only important question i can raise is whether you want NobleCoin to be available for the common user?
By that I refer to the high hashrates required to mine bitcoins. My opinion would be that those high hashrates are only for the wealthy people and do not match the intentions of NobleCoin.

I agree 100% on this, seems now only the fortunate can afford the miners that are coming out soon, I certainly cannot pull out 5000 or 10.000$ or more just to have the pleasure to mine.

I dont see the mining only as $$ making but also as a hobby and something entertaining.

I can afford gridseeds but what if these become obsolete already with the outcome of MH TH PTH miners that cost a fortune then us "little ones" wont be able to participate in any of this no more, except trading and that's not that fun imho

I wouldn't have thought this as alternate scrypt mining can be a pain, but it is a good point. The way BTC has gone is that only big corps can mine it and I wouldn't want the big corps to be the main holders

Can I suggest something?

If we choose to hard fork in order to make block halving,
why not use this chance in order to switch to an anti asic algorithm? like scrypt n or jane?

Please reply for this Smiley
I think this is a great idea with all those upcoming asics, soon many miners will leave the regular scrypt coins in my opinion.

Scrypt was made in order to resist asics, just a reminder Smiley

Last chance to put some nice words in the VoS thread for noble! They close the voting at 5 pm.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.5822333

Get every possible comment we can on that thread, having VoS on board would absolutely be massive for NobleCoin so lets have the strongest possible case to make the first wave of coins added! NobleCoin is and should have always been the front runner for this addition and all of you here know this so lets do our part to make sure it happens! Comment away!

Being top coin on coinwarz is like a double sided blade. If the profit is higher then people mine it and sell it and while doing that, they eat the buy walls and push the price down.

Yes, and the current price probably isn't sustainable if that happens (i.e. if there is no significant hoarding).

5,000 x 24 x 60 = 7,200,000 NOBL a day, even at 17 satoshis, that's more than 1.2 BTC per day needed to merely sustain the price.

A block reward reduction was mentioned, is there any ongoing discussion?

Another side issue of the high reward is that NOBL amounts will easily exceed double precision capability, so any software that relies on double-precision floats will encounter rounding errors (you shouldn't, but plenty of crypto software out there relies on it, on exchanges, 3rd party sites, etc.)

The wallet uses 64 bit integers under the hood, so it's good up to 90 billion NOBL, but that'll be reached in a couple of years if I'm correct, so while there is still time, but better safe than sorry Smiley

I do not recall Bitcoin's block rewards or similar being tweaked after launch, and I don't think NOBLECoin should either.  It is a band-aid solution.  I'm going to begin purchasing Noble once again.

I am split on whether the rewards should be halved or not. I think in the short term it would raise the value of the coins and get more investors in, but in the long term it could put off new miners as the people who have been mining it from the start would hold a lot of coins (something that happened with Quark).

The thing is that currently there are more coins than the demand for them, but that will not be the case once we go mainstream. You almost want a reward doubling rather than halving, but that would hurt early adopters. I can see why there is a constant block reward.
Maybe instead of halving we could reduce the reward by 1/5, and then again later by 1/4, and so on. That way it is more of a gradual reduction? If we do implement a fork, we should make sure that we have implemented any new bug fixes as well.

I like this idea, would be a lot gentler than a halving.

Just my 2 cents about block halving..

I think we must have some kind of halving, just my opinion Smiley

Yep, band-aid is probably the keyword here Smiley

One key difference with BTC launch is the convertibility to fiat, during BTC early days, convertibility was very limited, and hoarding was common (if only by default).
Nowadays, we have easy convertibility, which in a bearish market means shorting a crypto (sell to fiat, buy lower) is more profitable than hoarding, which in turns means a lot of seller pressure.

PS: added BTC & USD tickers + Market cap at http://chainz.cryptoid.info/nobl/
