you need to wait for 1400 or so odd confirmations before you can begin forging

If you don’t believe, why are you here?
Quick questions:

I just set up a nxt wallet @ 7876, why would I ever use a client other than this one. Also, my ordinary payment (total balance) has now been confirmed +560 times, but my effective balance is zero. Is this because I need to wait for 1400 or so odd confirmations before I can begin forging?

Bitcoin will implement all of the NXT features in the future

They could be happy to increase the blocksize another time.... Bitcoin has a huge problem if its gets more transactions, you have to go offchain it has just no scalability.

Bitcoin cant do any significant changes without hardfork, they will never do this because to much partys involved (exchanges, mining pools, payment processors....).

You can do this with a small coin like drk and it recently proofed it is already tricky enough with so few 3 partys involved.

You would gamble billions of dollars with a bitcoin hardfork and even if the code runs on testnet does not mean it works on mainnet.

On the flip side, Nxt is planning to have it's marketcap completely manipulated and then 10% of it's total supply stolen by Mark Karpeles at some point.

I assume you mean "NOT" planning that?

Q: What is irony?
A: A nail.
A2: See Karpeles quote.

It would be fairly simple to add a tutorial to the official client.
It could pop up, on first login, when a new address is "created": "Hi, this is your friendly nxt client. Welcome. This is whats going on..." A few simple explanation with arrows, "here you can register an alias. An alias is like a domain, but..." "here is the Asset Exchange, you can buy stuff" etc.

Good idea, as long as it's not that annoying paperclip.

That would lead to me going on a murderous rampage.

OMG, the paperclip. I hate the paperclip. It may even had some horrible sound effects, I'm not sure, I suppressed the memory.

I was thinking more like some cool but understated css effects.

It was a joke about how we are going to implement BTC features, obviously not a very good one.  Tongue

Implementing BTC features = implementing nothing? Cheesy

The other downside, which some list as a benefit, is that so much stuff is being pilled onto NXT that it might be confusing to some people to just use as a currency. Although, I think this can mostly be solved by having a "lite" wallet that hides the Forging, Aliases, AE, DSG, messaging etc, and only has Balance/Send/Receive stuff on it. Or at least hides all that stuff by default.

+1
It did take me a while to understand whats going on...

But it just made me understand that NXT is so much more then a currency

NXT has an advantage for wider adoption in that it hasn't received years of negative press that have formed bad image in the eyes of the public. Some people won't touch Bitcoin with a ten-foot pole now that the media performed their agenda. And here comes multi-featured NXT, all shiny and bright, with no negative stigma around it. Just like Dogecoin, by the way Wink

The one main downside NXT has in my eyes is the single ID for a person. You have to manage multiple ids/passwords if you want to try to obscure your identity and holdings at all.
