Damn, good point... We need to have IDRs and such for investment related activity. I think I might start a cryptographic investment bank when the asset exchange goes online.

well, no respond from experienced nxters, yet...

so blocks.nxt was about 5 mb, but blocks.nxt.bak is about 11.3 mb so I did copy bak file and replace blocks.nxt. Now I get,
"Loading blocks ..."
...Done
and client started to work again. But no idea what caused the crash, maybe there is small bug

You had fallen off the main chain and generated an incorrect block.

It seems you have caught up again!    Smiley

Just make sure you are using the latest client and have performed all the appropriate security checks.

Thanks for comment!
Is it normal, though?

I am on NRS 0.4.8, and wonder if it happens with everyone?! I don't think it is, because people suppose to forge days without crash, right

security checks...  security as far as i can tell good enough. but I think it was something to do with client or maybe memory run out... (nothing to do with account itself, i think Undecided)

yes! and we will do.
i am just adding the last components for the explorer (alias search), cleaning the codebase
and finalize the explorer. it was planned to add some more features (filters/pagination/charts/mining calculator)
but i think these are not so important, as long the main funktion is working properly. this can be done
later and is on my todo list. i see the explorer more than a community asset than a personal project.

tomorrow i am starting the client/asset-exchange fulltime, which means much more output from my side.
the asset exchange is the most difficult part (async api/data storage/charts/order matching/different instruments
like shared revenue, options, bonds etc.) but once fully functional all other services can be plugged in very fast.
i guess much faster than other competitioners. the first beta should be ready in ~3 weeks (which is very sporty),
ready to check heavily via testnet. if no major bugs are found the final is planned 1-2 weeks later and yes, competition
is good, have no problems with that.  Grin

btw, happy new year!

It does get checked in the verifyGenerationSignature method.

pushBlock() checks that forger doesn't cheat.
verifyGenerationSignature() called by pushBlock().

Thanks! Makes sense.

Seriously, how do you think the one party who is allowed to be the BTC/NXT gateway will price his/her services?  With no competition the NXT exchange, as a whole, could very likely suffer from monopolies on assets like BTC, USD and gold.

One party will pay 1000 NXT to issue an Asset within the NXT Asset Exchange, which will be a BTC/NXT gateway.

Another party can also pay 1000 NXT to issue a DIFFERENT Asset within the NXT Asset Exchange, which can also be a BTC/NXT gateway.

Either you and the others raising these concerns have a misconception of what an Asset is OR I need to do a lot of homework!   Smiley

Fair enough. Thanks.

smaragda is correct. Anyone can be BTC/NXT gateway if he wants. Actually I would rather have mBTC/NXT gateway. Just one more thing, it would be extremely difficult to get a market going. Ripple has been here for years with huge backing and it is going no where. Regardless how many BTC/NXT gateways are there in NXT asset, I for one would be extremely difficult to be persuaded to buy one BTC from you. If want BTC I would rather go for the real thing at coinbase or BTC-China or bitstamp.

I would definitely buy virtual high performance CDs though  Wink.

Hmmm....which makes it difficult to decide whether the explanation is good enough to get the coins. Maybe other users will have better explanations. What then? Distribute among them?

So, the question for the devs is, will NXT allow multiple users to issue the same asset?

No

Why not?  Is it planned at any point?

N.B. There is a distinction to be made between assets (USD, Gold, BTC, etc) and stocks (MSFT, GOOGLE, etc).  For stocks, there should always be only one issuer.  However, for digital assets, you really do want to support multiple issuers because this gives you high availability, decentralisation, free market competition, etc.

Seriously, how do you think the one party who is allowed to be the BTC/NXT gateway will price his/her services?  With no competition the NXT exchange, as a whole, could very likely suffer from monopolies on assets like BTC, USD and gold.

That's my prophecy.

A lot of people can issue BTC asset. But only one will be allowed to name it "BTC".

Quick question:

What do I have to insert here for *youruser* and *yourgroup* ?

wget http://109.230.224.65/~nxt/nxt_rasppi.tar.gz
tar -xpf nxt_rasppi.tar.gz
chown -R *youruser*:*yourgroup* nxt/
cd nxt
ln -fs webapps/root/WEB-INF/web.xml configfile
./run_nxt.sh

To be honest if I had found an account containing a 50 million next I would have probably taken it and diseappeared but that was not the case. I am human after all.

Do not compare yourself to us.  You are not our equal.

You are not "human".  You are subhuman.  You are an animal.

You have no pride and you have no legacy.

I think its about time to reduce the transactions fees to 0.1 or 0.01 NXT.

Look at the average BTC tx cost over the past couple months.  NXT would have to be at $0.35 to justify that.

I close the command window and run *.bat again, refresh NRS client tab, got this error...

I believe it is something to do with "blocks.nxt" file?!

17094328850816579008 has 100nxt ends on 1.
9419809254501029371 has 100nxt ends on 2.
17377278473045672939 has 100nxt ends on 3.
4963410668293167247 has 100nxt ends on 4.
2289697742292350176 has 100nxt ends on 5.

These are accounts I had access to.
The only reason I can remember these accounts was because the pass made sense.
Other passes were deleted when I deleted the vps.

I assume these were used to host public nodes.
I advise the owner to change these addresses to something more safe.

If I would steal 92nxt why wouldn't I steal 500?
I hope someone can verify that these are his addresses.

Who knows. Why would you poison a developer link with a hacked client that sends you the passwords? Don't give me the "trying to show the community how easy it is / teach us a lesson" garbage, you could have just as easily displayed a popup the said "Be careful this isn't the real client" to get this point across, instead you stole the passwords, and then stole the funds. Its not too late to have the "real" hacker contact you through your email and have you convince him to send the NXT back.

Now that we know api v2 will support client side signing, this is fantastic news!

I want to start getting large scale (millions of nxt) value investors for nxt

I want to be able to truthfully say that nxt is the most secure crypto, bar none, even for non-technical users. I realize that a lot of this will have to be put into nexern's client, but i figure the more built in support he has to build on, the quicker we can all get this added security.

As we have all learned max entropy private keys are a must, both for nxt account password and transaction signing password.

If there is a way to support fragmented accounts without requiring cumbersome juggling of long passwords that would be fantastic. I realize that if a computer is compromised, so are all the passwords, but the truly paranoid can make paper copies of the private keys. People who can rely on their machine to be un compromised can keep all the passwords for the fragmented accts in yet another encrypted file (google authenticator?). I guess that would be a wallet.dat

So complicated, so difficult, but for nxt to become a significant chunk of the global economy, so necessary.

I apologize for being such a pain, but people with millions of dollars to invest will want the best. I imagine that the founders will appreciate all this added security also. I hope everybody understands how important security is, perceived and actual. With the new level of security we will have a path to nxt > .01 btc

@CfB: You said you will open a thread for reporting bugs in the software. That thread will be on nextcoin.org, right? What will the requirements be for reporting a bug? Just state the file name and the line number or do we have to suggest a solution?

The thread will be on BTT. U r supposed to point to the code with a flaw and explain it.

Hmmm....which makes it difficult to decide whether the explanation is good enough to get the coins. Maybe other users will have better explanations. What then? Distribute among them?
