They were never at a level where they can compete with the pig-4. During the late 90s, they improved a lot though. It was the peak period for Zimbabwe cricket. They had some very good players, such as Andy Flower, Alistair Campbell, Neil Johnson, Murray Goodwin, Stuart Carlisle, Henry Olonga, Heath Streak and Eddo Brandes. At that time, Zimbabwe was involved in several upsets. But all the players were lost due to political reasons and the team went in to decline soon after. For a while players such as Tatenda Taibu tried to put up some fight, but it was of no use.

I don't know how much interested is the native population in the sport of cricket. They can't rely on the white and Asian players for too long, because that player pool is rapidly vanishing (although still we get quality players such as Brad Evans once in a while). Zimbabwe team until the late 90s used to be all-white, with Madondo, Olonga and Mbangwa being rare exceptions. But times have changed and due to political reasons the vast majority of the white population departed from that country. And unfortunately the black population doesn't seems to be too interested in cricket.

A big issue for few countries in this region like Zimbabwe, South Africa and Zambia they have no good enough black players in cricket and this all happening due to restrictions which set by white rulers few decades back and sadly now they have native black governments, but they completely fail to bring some fair system for all communities just because of this we are watching many issues in South Africa and Zimbabwe fail to bring any better quality and Zambia is also all gone with white players it's all about corruption and few other things which give them set back.

Because, I was feeling South Africa could be role model for many countries as they have resources and change of governments will bring some positive developments but their personal issues and political influence give them more shocks, and now they are still having not good enough system which give them quality players from all communities for national team.

Yes it is true that their team is not good now. If Zimbabwe and South Africa can improve their cricket boards better then their country will produce better players.But I think every government should pay attention to the cultural media that every country has.This civilization in culture can take a country to the heights of recognition and progress.Today there are some countries that people don't know about but through different sports all those countries are known all over the world.That is why I say that every country's government knows that all its cultural games express the importance of games.

Sikandar Raza is it, a Pakistani-born player. He wouldn’t have been on the team if the pay was not good. So, I think it’s something else. There must be players who really wish to be on the national team right?

Zimbabwe do have a well structured domestic system and more than 90% of the players are native African. But the problem is that the quality is not very good. And that is why they are very dependent on players who are based outside such as Sean Williams. In case of Sikandar Raza, he was originally born in Sialkot, but migrated to Zimbabwe when he was 16 years old. His case is unlike the case with the UAE national team, which just imports players from India and Pakistan. Raza started his cricketing career in Zimbabwe.

I think the native players are not very interested because probably the pay is not very good. But then again if the payment is not so good how can there be players in the team from another region?

In last ODI I was eagerly watching they will win and have some good confidence but sadly in last two overs they lost this match and good chance for having 10 points in league table.

Zimbabwe managed to bounce back after a long time. Just look, Bangladesh have a good record in ODIs but Zimbabwe ignored them. People may have criticized Bangladesh's quality of play, but the reality is that Zimbabwe is not in the same position as before, their cricket has improved tremendously.

It is difficult task to pull the team out of disaster especially when that game is against a world cricket top team India. In that game, the deficit in the top order had to be made up by the middle order players and came back into the match through Sikandar Raja. So it is criticized all over the world that Zimbabwe's Top order batsmen are relatively weak if they can fix that spot then Zimbabwe cricket could be known as a powerhouse.

@SirLancelot I still remember watching some old games of the old Zimbabwe team. And I still remember how much the flower brothers were known throughout the whole world for the good performance that they often delivered. It was actually good to see those games because Zimbabwe actually played very competitively against the biggest names in cricket.

@GigaBit The Zimbabwe team is not actually very well-rounded. The top order is often a failure for Zimbabwe. And they don’t have any fearful bowling lineup that can actually do some damage to their opponent's batting lineup. Until they fix those problems they will not be able to win against better opponents regularly.

Only last match comes into being "close" category, previous 2 matches were one-sided and looked dead to me even by checking just scoreboard. Yeah would've been great if there was some sort of upset in the last game, 1 bad over here n there and things could've been gone in favor of Zimbabwe.

Small teams need these kinds of win against big teams every now n then but it'll be only possible if they play regularly.

If they retain their players, then this issue will not be there. Imagine a playing XI with Brendan Taylor in top order, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams and Craig Ervine in the middle order and Muzarabani and Kyle Jarvis as bowlers. But players such as Taylor and Jarvis were forced to retire due to their differences with the cricket board. I am not sure what is the issue exactly. But the board receives around $12 million every year from the ICC and giving these players decent contracts won't put that much of a burden on the funds.

Sikandar Reza is a good player. He is just like a silver lining for Zimbabwe cricket. I wish he would be able to play in franchisee cricket because we all know what he did against Bangladesh recently. And it is just sad what happened with Brendan Taylor, he is already 36 years old.

So even if he tries to make a comeback after his ban is lifted, I don’t think he will be able to play very well. If Zimbabwe didn’t have these types of problems it would still be one of the best teams in the world.

Currently, India is one of the most talked about and popular cricket team in the world.We have been watching every game of India very well, it shows that India plays very well But Zimbabwe is not bad but a very good team. However, due to some mistakes of Zimbabwe, they could not ensure the victory of the match. They lost to India by just 13 runs which was Zimbabwe's biggest failure.I congratulate the Zimbabwe team, they will surely do well and win every match from now on.

Imagine a playing XI with Brendan Taylor in top order, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams and Craig Ervine in the middle order and Muzarabani and Kyle Jarvis as bowlers. But players such as Taylor and Jarvis were forced to retire due to their differences with the cricket board. I am not sure what is the issue exactly. But the board receives around $12 million every year from the ICC and giving these players decent contracts won't put that much of a burden on the funds.

Not forced but Banned for some drugs and bookie controversy in Mumbai. Brendan Taylor was excellent bat tho bt that's a full stop to his international career as he's already 35-ish.
Sikandar Raza is earning praise nowadays and rightly so, not sure if he's into franchise cricket but he should attract some new contract soon. This would help his game and Zimbabwe cricket as well.

Sikandar Reza is a good player. He is just like a silver lining for Zimbabwe cricket. I wish he would be able to play in franchisee cricket because we all know what he did against Bangladesh recently. And it is just sad what happened with Brendan Taylor, he is already 36 years old.

So even if he tries to make a comeback after his ban is lifted, I don’t think he will be able to play very well. If Zimbabwe didn’t have these types of problems it would still be one of the best teams in the world.

All credit for Zimbabwe for such a terrific fightback, but in the end overdependence on a few players never works. Sikandar Raza have been in terrific form this year.
