Other possibilities I can think of are:
1) Some problem with your curses library
2) Some default cgminer.conf file setting some unexpected setting
3) Different version of windows
Otherwise - no idea.

Thanks kano...

Okay, I spent all night reading the other thread that started the bounty to get ckolivas working on scrypt support for cgminer. I also read the cgminer readme twice. I learned a lot of stuff, and do not know what the problem could be yet.

I haven't made too many changes, but I fear it could be that solo mining on secondary computers are glitchy, or there is something awry with my computer.

I will post what my current configuration on my machine is.  I just hope I can revert when I make any changes. I admit, some things in that other thread went over my head.

My everyday work/media computer:
  • Windows Home Premium x64, SP1
  • AMD Phenom II x4 955 black edition, 3.2 ghz
  • 8 GB memory
  • GPU (device) 0: PCIex16 - Sapphire Radeon HD 6790 - 2 monitors (HDMI [#1], DVI [#3])
  • GPU (device) 1: AGP  - ATi Radeon HD 46xx - 1 monitor (DVI [#2]) - my "main display"
  • Mainboard: MSI  (MS-7599) - two USB3 channels, but 1 gets disabled with my PCIex16 GUP

My AMD VISION Engine Control Center reports:
  • Driver Packaging Version: 8.92-111109a-129966C-ATI
  • Catalyst Version: 11.12
  • 2D Driver Version: 8.01.01.1215
  • Direct3D Version: 7.14.10.0879
  • OpenGL Version: 6.14.10.11318
  • Vendor: 1002
  • Memory: 1024 MB
  • Core Clock: 840 mhz
  • Mem Clock: 1050 mhz
  • Total Mem Bandwidth: 134.4 GB/s

My batch file: (all on one line)
Code:
cgminer --scrypt --device 0 -I 12 --shaders 800
-o http://192.168.1.27:9332 -u panda -p miner
-o http://notroll.in:6332 -u Panda47.failsafe -p 12345

The verbose dump:
Code:

There is no cgminer.conf file.

I don't know what other info to provide.

I know I can upgrade the Catalyst to 12.8 but not sure if it doesn't work out, how to get back to 11.12 (which I know works for BTC mining).
But how do I know what SDK I have? What are curses?

To recap my problem... cgMiner is running Solo mining, but from a different computer on the same home network, but it does not "show" the header, and does not update the window. However it DOES hash as confirmed with the pool I try it with by itself.

ckolivas, titiez, if you can read this, what is going on? I would like your input, even if it's "I dunno". Thanks.

EDIT: I upgraded the catalyst from 11.12 to 12.6 and i can now see the "header"

Heh, the more things change, the more they stay the same  Roll Eyes Nuff said.

Anyway unfortunately for some (one?), I'm not dead and was not going to abandon cgminer, but family comes first. Things are still bad there but I'm finding my feet again.

I'll look at the stratum protocol at some stage soon.

Thanks for checking in.  Look forward to your return, when you are ready and not before.

Hopefully the pissing contest will have died down by then.

Meanwhile, anyone bored and looking for some cgminer excitement Smiley
My current git is 2.7.5n (at the moment - but it keeps going up)

Ill give it a go.

running it now on an XP machine with a 5830 and a BFL single. also have miner.php loaded for monitoring it.

Yes most people who understand english understand the meaning of the word 'and' ... though in well written english you don't put a comma before 'and' ...
Since the current version of cgminer is apparently pretty stable and this thread is clearly an argument playground right now, I would like to take a moment to correct this.  Perhaps you don't use a comma before and in GB English (and IIRC, you are in Australia, where GB English is presumably what is used), but in US English you do (and I don't know or care where Luke-Jr is, he isn't involved in the above quoted portion of your post).  In US English, I know you do, and the sentence in question (if it were a sentence) appears grammatically sound...  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinating_conjunction#Coordinating_conjunctions

This is not OK.
As usual though, Luke-jr lies about shit all the time - as here it's even documented - on 19-Sep - Luke-jr rolled back Hahahafr's change - thus putting the p2pool page back to not mentioning cgminer - with the statement as per this discussion
https://en.bitcoin.it/w/index.php?title=P2Pool&action=historysubmit&diff=31023&oldid=30982

Wow. That's very, very dissapointing.

But yes, to be expected from the 2nd coming.

Also Luke, you shouldn't be so embarressed about your picture going up. The acne will clear up and facial hair will kick-in once you're through puberty.

Quick question: Luke-Jr just undone changes I made in the P2Pool wiki page, saying:
Quote
cgminer is pretty much deprecated at this point
Why would he say that?
You cut the quote off:
Quote

So ... you gonna leave that comment there and prove what everyone is saying about you ... or remove it?

I suspect you wont change it Smiley
Or will do the usual word games you play.

Yes most people who understand english understand the meaning of the word 'and' ... though in well written english you don't put a comma before 'and' ...

Now for my comments on the actual issue:
The amusing side about it all is to simply look at the wiki and see what's been done.

Firstly: the funniest part of it is clearly logged as is the case with the wikipedia software anywhere:
https://en.bitcoin.it/w/index.php?title=P2Pool&action=historysubmit&diff=28709&oldid=28414
On 14th July Luke-jr decided to change the web page from mentioning cgminer to only mentioning his cgminer clone.
... rather than adding his miner to the page. Nothing unexpected there - typical of him.

He typically has this opinion of himself being all important and this is part of the reason why we usually only refer to him as Jesus in the #cgminer thread ...
He's very religious and thinks he's god Smiley

Next he changed the page coz he didn't like the fact that p2pool is more decentralised than his pool (which it is) so he hid that statement and made the page now incorrect:
https://en.bitcoin.it/w/index.php?title=P2Pool&action=historysubmit&diff=30018&oldid=28709

Next Hahahafr tried to fix the 14th July change by adding cgminer back in there - which is of course correct - thanks to Hahahafr for noticing that and fixing it
https://en.bitcoin.it/w/index.php?title=P2Pool&action=historysubmit&diff=30982&oldid=30018

As usual, he is also playing word games.
One of Hahahafr's changes used the wrong option - that is no longer necessary - so rather than correcting it (remove "--submit-stales") Jesus-Jr uses that as an excuse to lie about shit like he usually does and undo the change removing cgminer from the p2pool page.

Sigh - having to deal with shit like this should make it clear why things are the way they are.

It's nothing new.

His agenda is some sort of power/control of BTC (which has been going on for a long time) and he believes his religious ideals are reason for him to take control and make things only how he thinks they should be - his belief is that he is righteous.
I make this comment in all seriousness.

I can see how you ... now try to convince others that cgminer would not even exist if it were not for you.
I never claimed anything of the sort, so you are obviously trolling.
I'm pretty sure I saw an argument between you and kano in a BFL thread that one could certainly take the way he put it.

No, he used the word Deprecated not the word Depreciated. Call it trolling if you want. He is still a prick.

Quote
Not to be confused with Depreciation.
In the process of authoring computer software, its standards or documentation, or other technical standards, deprecation is a status applied to features, characteristics, or practices to indicate that they should be avoided, typically because they have been superseded.
OK, I won't call it trolling, apparently you were serious.  Deprecated is the right word, possibly used incorrectly in this case.

*facepalm* context fail, glad I used words like assuming in my post.

According to the definition listed below, I can see how you could make that statement given you forked it and now try to convince others that cgminer would not even exist if it were not for you.

You really need to drop the God complex.

deprecated

dep·re·cate
   [dep-ri-keyt] Show IPA
verb (used with object), dep·re·cat·ed, dep·re·cat·ing.

1. to express earnest disapproval of.
2. to urge reasons against; protest against (a scheme, purpose, etc.).
3. to depreciate; belittle.
4. Archaic . to pray for deliverance from.
deprecated is a common term for no longer supported / included.  He also said "pretty much" which leaves the comment open for interpretation.  I am guessing the entire context still isn't in this thread, but I don't care.  I'm only replying to you to say that playing games with semantics really isn't necessary here (under the assumption that you know what deprecated means in this context [assuming the missing context doesn't change that] and are just trolling).
