lol, like Mtgox. People GTFO if you still can.

Withdrawals are working fine, I've just tried to withdraw something like 0.2BTC. Just trades are halted

Apparently they are trying to prevent a new wave of long margin calls but they must give some info regarding this situation.

"We are aware of some issues with trading and are working to resolve them. Sorry for the inconvenience. Updates as they become available." from their twitter.

When I open a margin trade, what are the costs?

I know there is ~0.25 USD interest daily but what about opening it (does it take a fee in BTC, I always notice my BTC balance decrease when I open a margin trade).

Hmm... missing out on a major movement due to Bitfinex servers being down. Any idea what's wrong? Does support know of this?

Support keeps silence. I submitted a ticket but still no reply, as of yet. Wtf, the Ask price is below the Bid one in the order book (and someone seems to be trading)...

Bitfinex has been frozen for 30 minutes now....this is even worse than during the flash crash when it was laggy with updating one's positions.  At least then, the trading engine worked fine and you could place orders and get trades executed.  It is totally frozen now and can't do anything.

It started with orders being stuck. I could place new orders, but I couldn't cancel any open order neither manually not through API. Also, filled orders are shown as still open, though they don't get executed again...

Let's wait a little

USD lending rates are dropping a lot. [...]

Perfectly normal behavior in an uncertain and slightly bearish situation. There are less people looking to go long on margin and thus less demand. There are also more people sitting in USD waiting to see what happens and therefore there is more supply. What it does mean as well is that there is still the USD on the exchange to buy this back up if sentiment changes, the increase in USD supply suggests that people haven't withdrawn their money.

My thoughts as well. I am in the same situation. With USD on Bitfinex, not buying yet, and not lending at these rates... just waiting.

USD lending rates are dropping a lot. I'm thinking about buying some bitcoins. Unfortunately the bitcoin interest rate is minuscule.

This thread claims it is a P2P platform.

How is it P2P? Or is the a misleading claim?

Sounds like a centralized exchange.

The lending aspect of Bitfinex is P2P. Other users lending to other users, instead of just Bitfinex providing all the margin.

Last night I had a quite profitable short going when I decided to close my position. So then I hit "close" and nothing seemed to happen, so then I hit "close" again, then a while later I see myself as having a long, so I hit "close" again, then I had a short again and so on (I can't remember the details now).

I heard this too many times and I don't believe it's coincedence. BFX is well aware of this issue for more than a year (maybe even longer) and it's still happening on a regular basis. This is trivial fix in their code. I wonder why they don't fix this Smiley

Sorry for your loss.

Hi,

Anyway the long and short of it that instead of having a profit, I'm down over 5k, and as far as I am concerned I was robbed by the exchange. So far the response from support has been along the lines of "suck it up". Even though I realise what happened now, it did not occur to me at the time that hiting "close" more than once (in the face of total unresponsiveness) willl then open a new position (ages later).  Anyway I am now an aggrieved party seeking justice from the bitfinex exchange.

I want to withdraw all of my bitcoin. I did a test withdrawal of about 0.3 BTC and it's been pending for over 2 hours now.

"Your account is currently on withdrawal hold. Your withdrawal(s) will be locked in a Pending Approval state until the hold is lifted."

How do I get the hold lifted?

Yes it is, that is exactly a free market.

'Investigating' people and banning them for market participation is not a free market.

I'm guessing you lost money. If so, take it on the chin. Holding and trading bitcoin is a risky business and you knew what you signed up for.

Nope. I was in fiat at the time of the crash.

I simply do not like this type of erratic market manipulation. It is bad for bitcoin's and bitfinex's image.
How will people take bitcoin serious when it still has 100 dollar moves in a day on one of its major exchanges? It's embarrassing to be frank.

That is not a free market.

When one person or a small group of individuals have too much power over the market it distorts the price discovery mechanism.

The fools who dumped so much should be investigated whether they have a history of doing this. If so, they should be banned from Bitfinex.

These fools you speak of were people being margin called and legitimate big sells. The only thing they are guilty of being foolish about is going long on margin and holding until they were liquidated.
