With his current best, he has a lot of room for improvement and next time he will surely be qualified to compete for the Olympic medals or managed to grab that gold medal. After all, we had great athletes this year and they managed to make history with their skill we gathered more medals this year than the other Olympics that we ever participated in for the first time.

I love to see the look of enthusiasm that is implied on the faces of these future faces. They are not only equipped with skills in their field, but they are able to be in an international environment that gives pride to their country. Of course, we are very supportive in every aspect so that later in the day they can again bet on the next world Olympic level.

Good news for us as we have a good contender next Olympics, one step at a time, next time it will be the gold Medal.

We don't need to speculate anymore, it's been answered already that he will continue his training to fight for the Olympics to come.
I did a little research and found out that the next Olympics is in 2024 and the location will be in France.

Hopefully, there's no covid-19 anymore that time or no new virus that will come out.

The current Japan Olympics is a success, but it's still good to see an Olympic where a crowd is already allowed.

Majority of them will continue with their training they have tasted the silver and bronze medal. They will aim for gold next Olympics in 2024.

Yes, or at least covid-19 has been controlled already that time and we are back to normal again. Definitely the Japan Olympics is a success as we have a lot of medals and those who won are going to be welcome as a hero in our country because of their accomplishments and makes us proud.

They may not have the best support they want during the training period, but the reward is very sweet as they received big cash rewards, a car, a big bike, and even a house and lot. By winning a gold medal, it will already make them successful as in the Philippines it's everyone's dream to have a good house and enough cash for their savings.

This news confirms that Carlo Paalam will be back to the Olympics.

Carlo Paalam keeps eyes on Olympic gold, vows not to turn pro

Quote
TOKYO - Carlo Paalam said he used to be a member of the 'Avengers.'

By that, he meant scavengers. Avengers was what those kids in his hometown of Carmen, Cagayan de Oro playfully call themselves while digging up anything of value in other people's garbage. Mangangalakal was how they're also called.

Well, Paalam may not be a super hero now, but he's a real-life hero in the eyes of a nation enamored by his courageous journey from being the least heralded member of the four-man boxing team to a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics.

Good news for us as we have a good contender next Olympics, one step at a time, next time it will be the gold Medal.

Although Paalam has already lost to Yafai, he is a promising champ and has a very bright future in the ring ahead of him. At 23 years of age there's still so many titles ahead for him to win. Who knows he might just be the next gold medalist in the next Olympics. I think he should go back home and do an AAR (After Action Review) to know when he can and should make improvements. Paalam will go far.

That will be the obvious goal for Paalam after this, train very hard again and wait for his crack at the next Olympic games. The good news is that there are a lot of amateur tournaments in boxing, it's all over the globe so there are plenty of time for him to fight. 23 years old is still very young, promising career in amateur or even in pro-boxing. He will be hitting his prime, so that is very positive as well. Just hope that he won't succumb to media pressures though.

Paalam now has the inspiration to work hard, with the amount of reward he receives from getting a silver medal, I'm sure he will aim for the Gold to finally get the ultimate success before he turns pro. Maybe he can follow the journey of his opponent in the Fina match and hopefully that would be possible for Carlo Paalam.

Its Galal, on first round he made a good punches until Carlo landed on his feet, and on 2nd round Galal still leading the match. The fight still an intense one because Carlo rises after that fall and keeps on fighting. Silver medalist is already a good result for all the hard works of Carlo, he proves this already and he inspire many thru his stories. Few more games today to end this Olympic and I can say that many athletes was able to show case their talent despite of our situation, the boxing team of Philippines is amazing this year, Carlo will fight again next Olympic for sure.

Looks like the fall of the carlo palaam in the first round made the he very painful and it was very visible when the referee started counting and Paalam took the count of eight standing but seemed to be shaking as the round resumed, even though palaam tried to counterattack but it seemed that yafai was more dominant in the second round, in my opinion The match was a pretty great fight, even though Palaam only won a silver medal, but his achievement in breaking through to the finals will certainly be very proud of the Philippines, and especially with the silver medals now the Philippines has managed to climb to rank 45 in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Medal Standings, that position has become the best among Southeast Asian countries

Now the run of Carlo's Olympic medal hunt was done with silver. That's the best for someone like him and it's really a proud moment. Even a bronze will surely do but silver and gold are extraordinary. It was a close one when he's already there but falls short of his run in the Olympics.
Congratulations to him and as well as Galal for winning the gold medal. These guys are amazing and hope that we're still going to see them again in the Paris Olympics in 2024.

When I read articles related to Paalam's life, I believe he is more than happy to what he had achieved during this Olympics.
From poverty, he will soon uplift the status of his family's life. The prize that he will get from the government and maybe from private companies will be more than enough.
Now, if he decide to continue his battle, he knows what strategies he needs to do to achieve the top of his career.
Getting that silver medal is no easy feat. So big congratulations to him for achieving that medal.
Yes, there's no need to be sad but it's that it's already near and in fact there's a study that bronze medalists are happier than the silver medalists. Because with the bronze's situation, they're happy that they are still able to get in and take bronze whilst with the silver medalist, he's already there but did fall short and didn't win the gold. But I'm sure that he's more than happy and he deserves every single thing that shall be given to him with his achievement on this Olympics. If he's still in with the next Olympics, we're for sure going to see him come back  stronger.

^^ Yes, I do agree that there's a lot of improvement for this athletes.

I don't what to rub it in, but I'm just disappointed with Carlos Yulo in this Olympics, he is currently rank 3rd in Men's Artistic Gymnastics World and there are hopes that he will at least bring any medal for the Philippines in this discipline.

Nevertheless, other athletes step up specially our boxers. They need to get more exposure for our boxers because for sure they can surpassed their medal haul in the next Olympics.

paalam having the silver medal still is a great achievement though. boxing is not easy so congrats to paalam. if he'd pursue a boxing career to pro, it be interesting to watch his career.

the government will also be rewarding him benefits for this silver. there are personalities already promised him big rewards just like hidilyn diaz. afaik there is a lifetime support from the government.

Nesthy already said that she will still continue and pursue that gold. And i will say that most athletes do, It took Hidilyn Diaz 4 Olympics to win that gold medal for us. So for sure those boxers, Nesthy, Carlo and Marcial will train very hard and will join other competitions (Asian, EU) to sharpen their skills more and they could face the same boxers they have face here in the Olympics.

Yes, a silver medal is something that we all could be proud of off. We have a very successful Olympic campaign. This will be something to talk about in the next 97 years for Philippine Sports.

What I am trying to say is that don't use Paalam's fight with Shakhobidin Zoirov to decide the outcome of his fight with Galai Yafai.

Yup, it's unwise if you base your bet for Paalam on his previous fight with Zoirov because that fight was halted due to cuts.

As I've said in my above post, I'm betting for Carlo Paalam because of his talent not because he is my compatriot  Smiley.

Win or lose, Paalam will go home a millionaire, another "from rags to riches" story that usually happens to most of the Filipino boxers including Manny Pacquiao.
Yes, Carlo Paalam will make a lot of money and fame through his performance in the Olympics but still, my prediction about the fight was correct.

Even if it is not Japanese, this will be his toughest fight because obviously, this is for the gold medal. I'm not sure why he became the underdog though, Yafai just went through the needle last fight while Carlo won in a UD fashion.
looking at their record Carlo Paalam has more bouts and wins compared to Galal Yafai but between the two Galal Yafai has been more active than Carlo Paalam.  I guess they either based it on their medal count, who has more recent fights in the ring or it's just that Galal Yafai is just far more popular than Carlo Paalam. anyway, being an underdog isn't really that bad.
I believe we should based on the current performance, Paalam beat the defending champion and that's a big thing in sports.

We have a lot of bettors for Paalam here as this thread has a lot of Filipino fans and we know this is only the 2nd gold of the Philippines if Paalam will win.
I hope he will not feel the pressure, just play his game,  and be smart as every throw and hit counts.
I will go for Galai Yafai as the winner of tomorrow's fight despite how Paalam beat the previous Olympic gold medal holder (Shakhobidin Zoirov) but I don't know if you notice that the athletics expected to do something wonderful in this Olympic games some of them don't lift up to expectation. The same thing happen in the men's tennis game when Djokovic which everybody thought will be the gold medal winner was defeated by A. Zverev.

What I am trying to say is that don't use Paalam's fight with Shakhobidin Zoirov to decide the outcome of his fight with Galai Yafai.

Definitely, because each fighter is different, "style makes fight", so the outcome might be different.

On the contrary, your analogy is flawed as well, Djokovic is the favorite, but he lost, in this match Yafai is the favorite. So if we go with your argument, then Yafai will lost in this fight.  Grin.

Anyway, goodluck to all bettors, regardless of you who chooses to win.
You make a reasonable point but I was talking about what the above user believes just like some people believe Djokovic to won which is what I don't agree with and I know they now understand that was right when I said Yafai will win.

Lost my bet on him but it's okay since I've already that it is one tough fight for him for the gold medal. Even if it is Silver, still a big achievement for Paalam.

He is 23 years old now, going pro I think it's a little bit for him to get the ranking in pro boxing so I think he will stick to the amateur league where he got his fortune. In the amateur, he will get a monthly salary from the government while if he decided to be a pro boxer, your future is dependent on your manager and promoter, but we will wait and see what his decision will be.

What a good fight. If Paalam don't knock down on round 1, I believe the decision will so crucial and close score but Yafai is so good to keep his score lead until the last round although he almost slipped on 3 round and just regain his center of gravity. Well played to both players and they deserved the medal they got.
Nas is too much for Carlo, we saw the match and both boxer is not giving up, in round 3 Nas is not fighting that much because he already knows that he will win because he was leading in Round 1 and 2 that’s why Nas is giving the round 3 to Carlo. Nevertheless, the fight was amazing and the result is indeed good Carlo is still a silver medalist, such a great young boxer from the Philippines.

What you say has some truth in the fact that Japan is more aggressive when it comes to betting. You've taken the options into account so it's really good for some pretty reasonable reasons. But we will see a boxing match that is completely dominated by the hosts. japan has 1 point for this.
just want to update you that the fight between Carlo Paalam and Ryomei Tanaka is finished with Carlo Paalam winning by Unanimous Decision. Carlos Paalam is now advancing to the Finals to fight Gala Yafai tomorrow at 2 pm (Japan time). the OP will also update the thread tomorrow with the betting odds for Carlo Paalam and Galal Yafai.

Thanks for telling, it was very helpful. Sorry, because I missed the news for this match, dealing with physical gambling in some places is quite tiring. Luckily I didn't bet on Ryomei Tanaka, if I were to bet on him, it would be an unlucky day!!

There are no betting odds available for that certain match, if there is, I could have won my bet. In the gold medal fight, the odds were displayed early, Paalam odds decrease to 2.02 IIRC, but it still does not play well because he loses in the fight, that first round knockdown was a game-changer, after that the odds to win are more in the favor of his opponent.
