Haha article is probably funded by ebay or something.  OpenBazaar is going to be mostly legit trade.  Most people are excited for no fees vs buying drugs and weapons which is likely a minority of people.

The whole AI stuff doesn't make sense. It's a fucking marketplace, what is an AI supposed to do there? Buying weapons?

You are right, sounds like openbazaar is the start/medium of skynet from this article.   Cheesy

from article -
"apply OpenBazaar’s decentralized and police-resistant model to this and you have a recipe for disaster: machines with free will and the ability to communicate with each other under the human radar"

Finally something I have been waiting for, OpenBazaar is pretty much a decentralized ebay based on DarkMarket which is a P2P trading platform.

http://www.btcfeed.net/news/openbazaar-is-the-decentralized-ebay/

Can't wait to use it, theres not gonna be the 15% ebay fees and no more paypal stealing your hard earned money

The concept, formerly known as DarkMarket, won the Toronto Bitcoin Expo Hackathon in April for demonstrating a fully functional P2P market platform with robust decentralized infrastructure, one that enables commerce to take place without the risk of outside actors disrupting the service.

I think in the future the concept of escrow will be yet another work that gets replaced by technology, when decentralized trustless systems are perfected there will be no need for escrows anymore.

I am HUGELY in favor of OpenBazaar .. but I'm not entirely sure how it will attract mainstream users to compete with eBay and Amazon. Mainstream users still use paypal and CC.  OpenBazaar will no doubt give darknet markets pause for concern, but I don't see mainstream users flocking to it, unfortunately. I hope I am WRONG

Bitmit was a bitcoin based ebay and it had a lot of users. There is definitely a need. Others pop up here and there but without everyone rallying around one service it does not have the seller and customer base needed to take off.

Yeah I liked using Bitmit back in the day, never did find out why they decided to shut down.

Cryptothrift isn't a bad alternative, I've used them a lot recently but you're right they haven't got nowhere near as many buyers/sellers and as far as I can see.

Humans seem to surrender a large chunk of their IQ when it comes to retail. It needs to be the dumbest and simplest crypto-related app of them all to really go places. Millions of eyes will glaze over at the first mention of escrows and standalone clients.

I'm sure it'll fill a great niche for those who are committed enough. Ebay or Amazon sure as shit won't be bricking themselves if it stays in its current form. I'm sure it'll inspire some interesting developments in the future.
