Committing crimes is illegal, but writing books telling how to be a criminal is not. Closing down these sites is the job of thought police.

Is ducky an alt of notlambchop? Smiley

The FBI will see this as a threat.  ------ Just got  a call back and hes glad I reported it.  Good news for us who worry about security.

What sort of security is that?

Terrorist can use it to send messages

Any self-respecting terrorist knows not to communicate over the internet. How did Bin Laden manage to hide from the US for so long?

Let's try not to derail the thread with your wacko terrorist fantasies Wink
I'm looking forward to using OpenBazaar in a completely legitimate way.

True. I look forward to this because possibilities are endless for even LEGIT merchants.

WOW! Terrorists will never use platforms like twitter, gmail, and crappy copies of SMF to communicate. You may save us all from death and destruction yet.

And unfortunately that's why the NSA sees fit to spy on everyones communications under those platforms because the excuse they use is trying to stop 'terrorism' but what it's really about is just controlling the populace.

How much longer till a smart, but not especially techy person can do whatever it is they have to do to buy something here? I'd love to get some honey or socks or whatever, just to try it out.

I have a pc with windows. I'm not looking for drugs or anything illegal and I won't be too mad if I lose a little money in a glitch. Are there actual vendors selling stuff? Is there a tutorial about how to get started? Sorry if I'm being impatient.

I'd probably commit to buying something once a month, if I could.

Im working on the syscoin's block market implementation.. its probably going to be better than the p2p integrations you see with OB and others.. so stay tuned check out syscoin.org new release today.

You shouldn't need syscoin btw to buy... fiat/bitcoin any other currency ppl want to use.

Well it's not even open yet so you might be waiting a while. From what I gather they don't seem to be too complicated nor do you need to be an expert so if you can use bitcoin safely you can probably use this.

Some folks sure do jump to conclusions... drugs?... sex?... silk road?... I'm sure they know what it takes to stay in business and it ain't supporting illegal activity.
Sheesh... Take a pill (oops here comes the FBI)  Roll Eyes

What business is that? It's a decentralized libertarian market ie you can sell whatever you want on there. Naturally people are going to want to sell drugs. I think it's naive to assume otherwise.

Anyone technical care to shed light on why p2p vs blockchain storage such as Syscoin's BlockMarket or NXTFreeMarket? with P2P seems you need to always have node up and running to see the offers, and if they don't come online in hours those offers can be lost?

BTW openbazaar doesn't intend to go annonymity because if ppl sell stupid things they will get jacked, its up to them... its target it for the rest of the world and not darkmarkets..

Shadowcoin's marketplace intends to do a p2p market with anonymity in mind, but still has the problems that all p2p ones have in that they need to always be running since it runs off of a p2p messaging system. (Shadowchat and BitMessage for OB)...

With blockchain now you must add dust fee's to avoid bloat, and with p2p since messages are deleted bloat is less of an issue, but is it really useful (p2p) ?

Any fee structure will have a hard time scaling since the token they use is not only used as a service fee but also a currency and is traded.

so your just outlooking to the positives and oh yes, this will surely give bitcoin a good name.  I think Ill just have to pull out of bitcoin, since it seems we are in a world of geek idiots.  Again you just point out more negativity for bitcoin.  thats what the media will do to open bazzaar and bitcoin.  which I love by the way.

Bitcoin is bigger than just being used for drugs, but people should be free to use the currency as they wish and we can never stop the media from merely associating it with 'bad' stuff, but the public's opinion of it will hopefully change over time especially when they see the positives and benefits of it. Maybe decentralised markets will actually cause a sea-change in regulation and legalisation because if they realize they can't stop them then maybe this is the way to end the war on drugs once and for all.

Not all police officers are bad people. Some have woken up to the damage the war on drugs has done to society.

http://www.leap.cc/

I will do my best to continue to associate bitcoin with moral and ethical principles instead of state funded terrorism.
Apologists for the evils of violence , torture and kidnapping in the name of the war on drugs will be ignored and ostracized.

The markets themselves wern't the weak links. I think most of the people that get caught were caught from making silly errors like Ross was. It's not that hard to track the sellers down when you have to go and post the items. You can find fingerprints on packages and narrow down where they're sent from. Then you just stake out the places and wait. Eventually you'll get a catch.

Yes, good old fashion police work will still catch "criminals" , but what happens when you have a market of thousands of small time dealers competing in a thriving market with little assets each to seize? They can make a few examples at a loss but will eventually run out of money and have to focus their attention on the larger criminals.

Police can never take down all the crime even in the real world. The majority of crimes or drug dealers go unpunished because they just dont have the resources or intel to cope with it. They usually just work with what info they have and take down what they can when someone slips up. It's hard work but they won't stop doing it.

Some small time dealers who make mistakes will indeed be caught as well, many small dealers that follow a few precautions will be able to thrive and good for them. I will only be selling legal items on openbazzar as I would have to be a complete idiot to be so outspoken and try and sell illegal items.

Depends how good at keeping yourself anonymous is, but I wouldn't like the stress and paranoia or attempting to do so that's for sure.
