open bazzar will become another dark market site, and will be destroyed by govs, this is a waste of time and money.  This site shouldnt be released, cause its to much of a political statment.  The can make this site illegal, and you will def not have privacy.

How does a government shutdown an open source project? Have the combined efforts of the most powerful governments been able to shutdown decentralized organizations like :

https://defdist.org
https://wikileaks.org
https://thepiratebay.se

?

I will personally be setting up shop with the express purpose of selling as many legal items as possible under OpenBazaar when it comes out of the Beta we are testing. I will make sure that many some of these legal products support charities and non profits. Any attack on OpenBazaar will be attacking donation streams going to legitimate charities. OpenBazaar will become understood as a neutral marketplace and repercussions will occur if anyone attacks it.
ok your one of the few that will do that, and who says the black market sellers will do what your doing?  your really nieve if you think this site is going to get good rep, not having a way to remove bad sellers.

I said you be targeted and watched and this site will get alot of bad attention also, cause a site that might have drugs or illegal CC hacking, you think people that are honest are going to want to visit a site like that?  give me a break.

Let bitcoin grow in a better light, we keep making things more decentralized?  Bitcoin is already getting enough bad press.

? Most governments hate the organizations above and have spent 100s of millions attempting to shut them down. How is that working for them?

also one more thing, They willl all work together to take your bitcoins, stop doing things in the dark and let them know this is a bad idea.  Dont play this on a political term, also im sure the owner who is making this site will be arrested for making a site, just for making it.  how will the protect themselves legally?

You don't get it do you? This is a decentralized open source project. Unlike the silk road the developers aren't making profits from it, aren't marketing it as a drug site,  and don't control it. Your naive statements are akin to suggesting Bitcoin can be shutdown if everyone in the bitcoin foundation is arrested.

This is what will happen if you sell or buy at another Dark Market site, do you think legit sellers are gonna sell here?

A great way to make money is to create a market. Good idea by OpenBazaar!

Um, how exactly are they going to make money from this? From what I understand it's going to be open source and no fees since it's decentralized. I think these sorts of markets are more political statement than profit making businesses.

More than 9 months passed and OpenBazaar is still in beta phase. I'm really excited that a decentralized, trust-less marketplace is coming. That would be a possibly game-changer move for Bitcoin.

When is it actually going to be released. This is one of the things I'm most excited about as well as decentralized exchanges. I think a decentralized ebay/silk road market could be a huge game changer and milestone in bitcoin history.

Not sure if there is an official release date but agreed, this will be a game changer with regards to decentralized marketplaces.

I've been keeping an eye on their blog for updates:

AFAIK there is no official release date but they are working hard for this project.

OpenBazaar has ZERO consumer protection relying on escrows who are pseudonymous in nature. This is going to be heaven for drugs/kiddy porn/guns etc, but I dont see a reason for it to go mainstream. Fundamentally this is not trust-less either. U need to trust their escrow system.
drugs are pretty mainstream ,unless you live under a  rock  Grin
Indeed. Dependent on where you live, I can say a lot of things about Europe. Buying weed is almost as hard as buying bubble gum (maybe a bit less). When the night falls, you can find people (most of them are black; no I'm not a racist) near transportation services. They often even come to you while you're passing asking if you want some.

On the other case, OpenBazaar isn't intended to become the mainstream source of drugs. This is not what they're building it for, even though it will definitely be used for such purposes. It does not have to go mainstream, but it will certain take a slice of the market. Fundamentally it is much much better than any market what we've had, or have right now.

True. Decentralized market doesn't mean everything they sell is illegal. It's okay for selling illegal goods, too. But it's not the main purpose. There are already multiple ways to buy illegal goods anyway.

Not sure crypto is ready for decentralized ebay, everyone prefers to keep their profiles pseudonymous. Need more average joe's before it will take off.

Unless you're planning on selling crack of course  Cheesy Silkroad shows there can be some success there.

Whoah dude coming here advertising nxt giving strong opinions on what crypto needs telling us what "everyone prefers" is a sure fire way to get ignored.

For your information bazaar has been operational for quite some time also but have been upgrading and also this is a bitcoin forum where people want to spend that is right you guessed it "Bitcoin" not nxt lol

Why would you ignore me, other than to bury your head in the sand?

Do you believe OpenBazaar (minus drugs/kiddy porn/guns etc) will have everyone falling all over each other desperate to use it? There are options already that cater for that (nxtfreemarket is not the only other) and they lay fallow.

So available evidence suggests that users still prefer to use centralized options like ebay for non-criminal sales. It isn't me 'telling' anyone anything, it is the market. Do you have evidence to the contrary of user's preference?

Throw in drugs and you might have a party, it is the only proven success formula for this type of exchange.

Consumer protection is something that can be worked on, at this stage there's no point demonising OB as a paedo paradise. Pretty sure they can implement some of mechanism for getting rid of the undesirables. Anything that can offer an alternative to Ebay should be supported IMO.

+1 ebay also only offers a very unique 1 size fits all consumer and buyer protection, lots of items you cant even sell/buy on there because its too risky with this 1 size fits all system.

Not only that but they charge 10% for the troubles and paypal charge another 2-5% if you are selling it is ridiculous because then you also have to pay tax etc it all adds up then you are left with no choice but to charge higher than you wanted to be able to pay everyone else from your products lol I say good luck to any bitcoin accepting start up that does not charge the extortion rates that the above does..

Yeah their fees are a scam but then again, it's the best place to sell stuff since the volume of people using it is huge, specially if you sell rare collectible stuff nothing beats ebay. I wish we can have a solid decentralized crypto-only alternative in the future that becomes as big or bigger.
