I've been watching the ceremony live for 10 years or so, but this year was the first time I did not do that (I had important stuff at work, and since I live in Europe the Oscars are early in the morning). Instead, it was the first time I was betting on them. I guess I should've just waited for the results to be announced and relaxed, 'cause I lost all of the bets  Grin It's an interesting thing because even the 'safe bets' were not that safe this year. There've been at least a couple of nominations (including the main one) that resulted in the winning of someone who was not the most likely winner.
Are you kidding?  Where did you check the odds?
The favorites has been the winner in almost all the categories! There have been just few exceptions in the big categories.
But all the small and technical categories have been safe bets with top dog winners.

I have only seen Joker from the list of the movies here and I think it has good chances to win the Oscar this year.I will probably see 1917 movie now that I have read here it is a great movie and maybe is even better than Joker.
These kind of bets rarely are manipulated by the bookies so it is a good opportunity to bet for those who watch every movie that comes out.
Yes! my vote is in Joker as well! The actor is good as well as how does the story flows and how it catches the attention of the viewers, here in us , it becomes one of the trending movie when it is showing in the cinemas, I would love to watch Parasite as well, it is an Asian movie that has been received many awards in US, many people are recommending it, I think they aren't over rated so I would watch it next week, since there is a special screening here in my country, due to public demand.
I've seen different movies from the nominations, and it's unbelievable for me that the most likely winner is 1917 (I am talking about the Best Movie award right now). I mean, it's a beautiful movie, but it does not have anything too deep in it. Moreover, it's not very relevant today. Joker, on the other hand, is a breakthrough in villain portrayal, it's about a topic that is very relevant nowadays, and it is a kind of movie that has made huge impact on culture already. The odds for betting on Joker are amazing. Today I made my first bet, I put some money on Joker on Sportsbet.io. Let's see how it goes!

If you are a bettor on this one, it will be more exciting to follow.
However, on my end, I'll just sit and relax and wait for the winners to be announced.
Because the film industry has their own criteria on how they choose the winners.
People outside their genre would find it hard to guess how their mind works.
I have watched most of the movies in the list so it will be interesting for me also to know the results.

I also placed some bets on the oscars, but also lost 70%  Tongue. A couple of surprising winners this year, mainly for best film.
Also surprised that The Irishman didn't win even 1 oscar, quite a shame actually. Great movie, great actors, great director, what else do you want ?

Oh if I knew that there is a place where I could bet with crypto for OSCARS , I would have done it...I would have won with 1917...this movies was absolute amazing when I watched it and I would watch it again. The emotional roller-coaster that the viewer must endure its painful as WW1 was really cruel and the movie kinda showed this to us.

Anyway big congrats for those who won the Oscar's especially to my favorite winner Joaquin who absolute nailed the Joker movie with his uniqueness and his charisma. Also big congrats to Brad Pitt as I never watched multiple movies in 1 movie so Once Upon A Time was a great film. Still my favorite movies this year will go to The Irishman with absolute 3 legendary actors <3.

Gladiator and he is so good acting his character as a villain.

I'm taking the outside odds on this one probably Parasite and a couple small bets for the others.  1917 is too much of a favourite to take the risk/reward.

Yep, 1917 with 1.65 odds is not the best bet, as you said risk/reward ratio is not good as there are few good candidates that could scoop award like Joker, Parasite, and even Marriage Story. Same goes for best actor/actress and best supporting actor/actress. For them odds are simply too low (below 1.10) to make it worthwhile.

In general it is problematic to bet on clear favorites when it comes to Oscar as odds are too low, and surprises are more possible than in for example football or basketball. Even highest amount of nominations doesn't guarantee you most wins, as we saw last year, when Roma won only 3/10, while The Favorite was even worse, winning only 1 Oscar out of 10 nominations. I am curious to see  how Joker will end up with 11 nominations.

I'm deliberately going to avoid betting on Joker as a film winner but its still possible Pheonix does win the best actor award.    The reason I doubt it will occur is that the film is a little too dark, no problem but it has more of a specific appeal and in the oscars it comes from the industry itself.   I believe they do go for the most dramatic overall grand performance and production so by far the most likely film to sweep awards is 1917 as always war stays relevant.
He was excellent in Gladiator and perhaps an even greater villian but that whole film matches the ceremony and grand scale I would most think wins.

I'm taking the outside odds on this one probably Parasite and a couple small bets for the others.  1917 is too much of a favourite to take the risk/reward.

It's difficult to bet to. One reason is that Oscar Awards has been criticized to be biased, manipulated or paid to. Sometimes, it doesn't really make sense and the awards goes to those you don't expect.

Nevertheless, it's still up to you whether you'll risk the money.

ows really  ? were'd you get that source  . what i only know is that oscar awards is one of the prestige events same as on others like the miss u for example . so why woud i be thinking that its manipulated when its too huge  ? small events like local awards night maybe or local contest like ms. gay   .
actually in past i have heard this same issues i jut cant remember when and where but i am sure Oscars had been questioned for their credibility, but of course nothing can confirm that because everyone can just throw stone to anyone like that.
but its really difficult to bet indeed because the contenders are too heavy  , almost all of them are great actors and great actreses and thier movies were briliantly done  .
but in this i agreed this year almost all the categories are being represented by greatest among all from the industry,so choosing one is really hard to decide but since this is gambling we need to put our bet or just skip the topic.

I am Asian and I believe in equality and diversity but even sometimes I feel like not only are things biased,,, sometimes just for the sake of diversity we can see some choices win and I do not want to get in trouble for saying so but sometimes that is how people win.

I hope they take the Joker's words properly and not just vote someone else because they feel the pressure to.

I agree. I am also Asian and I believe in equality amidst diversity. But aside from that, I also believe that everything should be done objectively. The problem is that instead of the typical bias over white actors, the pressure is growing to have "people of color" as winners. So instead of doing away with the existing bias and be totally objective on things, the tendency is to bend more on the other side, on giving the "people of color" some awards lest the entire organization and the bases of judgement are criticized for having a tinge of bias and racism. In the avoidance of this, objectivity might be sacrificed.

If the objective conclusion comes up with a set of winners without a single actor with a "color", that should not be a problem. And people should refrain from criticizing. But if the entire proceeding is characterized with bias, that's the time it should be criticized.

Actually I never bet in this kind award because they are art worker and should replace to entertainment us, the money came from ticket and promotion. But as movie fanatic I will say Martin Scorsese (The Irishman) and Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) 7.500 is the best plot in this event, both have quality to become best director 2020. I'm not focus with actor/ actress because all came and direct with amazing person we call director, great award this year and need to see with family and pop corn.

Odds update on my predictions for the minor categories.

Best production design - Jojo Rabbit 81.00
Best visual effects - Avengers: Endgame 4.00
Best costume design - Jojo Rabbit 3.75

I also added another bet. Best film editing - Parasite 2.01 hehehe.

All these odds are from Nitrogensports. Cloudbet also offers them. I am also waiting for @Ronnie of Cloudbet to post their predictions and analysis.

I already appreciated Joaquin Phoenix's acting when he acted as the prince in the move Gladiator and he is so good acting his character as a villain. I realize that he is perfect for the Joker character and he really executed it very well. That's why he well-deserved the Oscar Awards and I bet most of my money to him because I guarantee that he did his best while filming The Joker.

Joaquin Phoenix really deserved that Oscar award because he did his best and we witnessed his acting skills, the facial expression, the emotion, the story the he wants to tell us, you can see it in every scene in The Joker Movie. Leonardo Dicaprio already won an Oscar in 2016 and this time Joaquin Phoenix is suitable to be an Oscar Award Winner. I know that Joaquin is expecting himself to win the award because he knew to himself that he did his part to become the best actor this year. He trained so hard, he push himself to the limit just for us to have the best movie that we want to see.

Leonardo is a great actor but this time, Joaquin really killed it. I'm looking forward for more of spectacular movie of him, maybe if he wins, that will not be the last.

Let's hope that Joaquin won this time, I also placed a bet on him because it is very obvious that Joaquin literally entitled to be the winner. I think that he will have more project or movie to film and it is not impossible for him to get another award from it. He is a good actor but some of you just noticed and appreciated his skills just this year. I know him for so long and I watched most of his films and some of his movies are not that hyped but I already recognized him since I was young.

The reason why i dont bet up on oscars due to the reason about on how they do set out criterias. Most likely the winners are more on dramatic genre.
My choices are Joker and Once upon a time in Hollywood. When it comes to odds it is indeed attractive for joker.A few days more before the said event would
happen.I might consider or not to throw some dollars to bet.

Jojo Rabbit on best costume design has become 2nd favorite behind Little Women from 11.00 to 3.25. Bet for it next for the best production design category. 76.00 odds hehehe.
well jojo rabbit deserves being in the chosen if they win because the costume is really looking at the time it was played, the oldies look is very german  and even the war moves looks legit(though there are many comedy)i have watched the movie twice now because the copy in Movie123 is clear so winning this category is related to Jojo Rabbit.
