It truly feels like some ICOs you see are a scam. I mean, like 20% of them use the same website design. How is that even possible? Due to laziness?
Whitepapers written with tons of mistakes, no teams, no real announcements or plans.

I think that most of the time you will notice something is wrong.

Looking up the creators is important. If they have nothing to back up their ICO, why invest at all?
Is there media buzz surrounding the ICO?
Do they have serious community manager support?
There are many things to watch out for.

But the real talk here is, you can't ever use a line "safe ICO investment". Investment of any kind is never safe. Otherwise you can't call it investment at all.

46% of ICOs in 2017 have already failed ...

https://news.bitcoin.com/46-last-years-icos-failed-already/

This is expected. But then it also means that not really 90% of the ICOs are scams. It is even less than 50%. I think when Vitalik Buterin said that, he did not really mean to say that 90% of ICOs are scams. You cannot be too literal in understanding statements. He might only mean that a very big portion of the ICOs are really scams. But the statistical figure being mentioned is only a representation of what he really meant, that scam ICOs are all over the market. Just the same, people should learn to exert more effort in researching about the ICO they want to invest in.

Usually they cheat people to collect money under the ico name. In fact, there is no project, the idea is simple, whitepaper is not prepared, but people try their luck and invest a small amount.
I dont believe icos and make profits with icos Smiley

I do not trust this project ... if you do research on the internet there are many videos and articles that say that BAnkera is probably a scam. Spectrocoin has had many fraudulent charges in the past ... They are collecting millions and millions of dollars and the project will only start in 2019 ....

The founder of ETHEREUM said that over 90% of ICOs are scams. By participating in an ICO, you give your money to a project that probably will never happen. Every day a new ICO comes out ... but what surprises me is that many people invest their savings in these very high risk projects. I think it is much better to invest in real projects already listed on the stock exchange .... of which you know everything well ... For example, BANKERA looks like an ICO scam .....

What makes you think Bankera is a fraud?

I have to believe that the majority of these ICO's are trying to their best to bring their idea to fruition.
But the sad fact is that most of them are failing. Those ICO's that doesn't have real project and vision to what they are promoting and doing. Vitalik knows the value of ICO's and as well as those that are worth detaching it with those scams. I haven't seen any negative comment about VLB after they postponed their private presale last December and now they are back with a 30% bonus. It's rare to see the 10% of the remaining legit ICO's in the web and luckily I found one of it.

Unfortunately, it's sad but true
other 10% are hard to find but real

If they have data for that percentage then they must have data of what are the scams and what are the legit.

Its Vitalik's opinion but does reflect a 100% situation of whats going on in the community. Yes there are a lot scam ICO's nowadays but its due to lack of regulations, but if tight regulations are implemented those scammers couldn't enter anaymore in the ICO space. But when regards to ROI and profitability, most ICO investments are crafted for long term just like traditional stocks which aims for huge returns in the future.

Not out right but if you consider the ones that don't follow through on promises our work nearly as hard as they should I would say the number is north of 95% then.

I think there are many scam ICO but not 90 percent of them.

I think the reason why Vitalik Buterin said it is because he want investors don't bother to do research on new coins, jut focus on valid and good coins like eth.

My opinion is it is vital for investors to distinguish scam coin and good coin. there are many scam ICO but not that high.

There is no way 90% are scams.  I could believe 90% will eventually fail.  I'm more optimistic myself so I would think that number is a bit high.  I have to believe that the majority of these ICO's are trying to their best to bring their idea to fruition.

I don't know if the CEO or founder of ETH said that . In my opinion yes that is very true that most ICO's are scam but not a total of 90 percent there are still some projects that is legit and they do what it says on their roadmap . It's up to you on how you spot a good ICO like me I pick diwtoken as one of the good ico for me that's why I support this project and not impossible to invest here .

Yes a lot of ICO's are scam, but there are a lot of good ones too. Bottomline is always identify projects with known use case for their projects and invest in those. That way you know a project is solving one problem not some vague solution to some vague problem.
We need to do our due diligence before investing in any coin so we do not get scammed, this is just common sense but it is something that is not as common as we may think, if I'm going to invest in a project there are several things I wan to see and that is the profiles of the developers, the whitepaper, the idea, how likely is for the idea to come true and even more important to see if the devs have any previous experience or if they already have something to show for before asking millions of dollars in funding.

The risk is noble!Sometimes you need to take risks and invest in projects that,in your opinion, look promising and have a future! It is necessary to study the ICO documentation in detail!
Somehow has a good points, because some Ico's are scam. Their is a risks in all investment as this is why we need to go on over searching a good ones, legit and can develop their project. We should really be observant on the Ico before we invest.
I completely agree! It's very difficult to find decent projects yourself! So you need to browse the reviews! Well,I now began to invest money in trust management! The guys are looking for a prospective ICO for not a big percentage!

DAICO is the first, now!

You can prevent ICO who are scam by making a research because if you do that, you can know if the ICO are possible become successful in the future or it will possible to become scam. But they have ICO are who are trusted there's only some because they make a research about the project they invested.  But be careful even they have chances to become successful they have possibility to fail.

In fact it is impossible to spot scam ICO before they do something wrong against community and investors. Before investing everyone should his/her homework with checking team behind project and checking whitepaper.

It is quite easy to spot a scam if it does not have any good white paper or capable people to implement the white paper.

90% ? Really? I think it's merely an exaggeration. Do you have any facts? Statistics? As for me the most part of ICO's are not scam.
