How many different coins are there?

Alot... I dont even have a final number for you, but in the 250 ballpark, and about 300 if you count the most random, 1-off coins from china. seems like new ones are coming out weekly

Put me down for one.  I'm not too keen on the presentation style for my bits worth, but I believe the information that you include will be well worth it.

Did you have a professional edit the book already? If not, toss me a PM and we may be able to work something out! I ask as I see tons of errors in your writing here, and being a self-published book, a lot of authors skip that integral process before going to print.

I will certainly do this. Things are still quite a way's from completion, especially as I have begun to explore additional avenues.

I am exploring the idea of taking an academic approach to the book, using the information in it to explain not only what has been created, but how the creations relate to the philosophies, ideals, politics, and other diverse 'values' that are at the core of bitcoin, and how events such as price swings, government actions, and exchange shut-downs are reflected in the coins. I dont fully guarantee that this will be the final form, but what I can promise is quality over speed of completion, and a very interesting read. Ofcourse, the majority of pages will be devoted to the coins in the same way as my 1st book on Casascius. It may be that I will increase the page-count even further.

I have even considered academic publishing, but the truth is that such things can take a year from submission to publication, so the current intention is to self-publish as I have no interest in waiting (or making any of you wait...) for that long.

I would love to hear thoughts on this.

Ahh, I thought it was pretty much ready to go, Smiley. Academic publishing is one of the hardest things to get into -- there's a lot of politics surrounding it and it's more of a "who you know" than a "what you know" deal.

In any case, when you're ready to roll and are prepared for the final stages, definitely get in touch with me and we'll see if we can work something out on the editing side. To put it into perspective, I put the editors at Forbes, Fox, CNN, MSN, etc. to shame (it's amazing the basics they skip over, and it leads me to believe there's actually no editorial process at any of the major outlets anymore).

As a literary snob, I second the idea that all authors need an editor. As an example, I remember reading letters written between Mark Twain and his publisher. In one letter regarding Twain's first draft of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the publisher gently reminds Twain that the girl's name (which first appeared in Twain's mega-hit The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) is Becky, not Betty.

Good luck with the book. I can't wait! Wink

Me

I'm honestly baffled by how many books come out with errors. Even the Harry Potter books come riddled with various issues. Major newspapers are now error-ridden, and even sites/magazines like Forbes. It's almost like writing properly is a thing of the past, and people just throw things down on paper and skip editing altogether to save money.

That said, I've actually heard similar stories about multiple major authors. An interesting thing about Stephen King is that he only goes through one draft of his books (no rough draft) and has no editor. Even so, I've yet to find any issues with his writing (though I also don't heavily read his books, so it's just spurts here and there).

In any case, thanks for your support/confirmation (maybe not directly, but indirectly) for what I do! Smiley

After some deliberation, I have changed plans slightly.

As of now, I do not intend to post the entire book on-line for free.

I will be selling a small batch of pre-ordered physical copies, and some time after publication, I will offer the eBook version on Amazon and potentially other sites including my own (www.coinfirm.org). I have not yet determined the price at which these will sell. The book will have its own ISBN number, and be in all ways a legitimate, self published work.

Also, I will be cutting out 'ads' from the book. No more ads; this is a professional, specialized publication and not some magazine. If you would like to be a big-ticket sponsor, contact me as I may be able to offer a sponsorship to one single company.

I will, however be adding a coin information source and gallery to my website, but this will not come any-time soon. The reason for this change is twofold. Firstly, a website is a better medium to present the information. Secondly, this project has grown to be a much larger undertaking then originally planned; from a casual 'industry directory/magazine' type book a serious, academic work.

Perfect Bound, full color, shipping included*, signed, and numbered (up to 100 maximum) physical copies remain for sale as a pre-order at the price of 70 GBP.  Contact me to make a pre-order, or do so at https://www.startjoin.com/CoinFIRM2

There are NO plans to sell physical copies after publication, so this may be your only chance.

It does not; each of these reservations is valid. As I have stated, up to 100 of these books may be produced in the 1st printing. The 25 is what I want to reach, as a minimum, in order to print. If lets say 20 of these are reserved here and 7 are reserved on the crowdfunder, I'll print 27 books, with the unreserved numbers going to the StartJoin reservations Smiley

Very cool. Seems like a better bet to get the books published quickly!!  Cheesy

Elianite you it looks like 13 copies are reserved as well.  You might want to change the op to 13/25 reserved to show the progression of sales.  People please reserve today so this book can get made.

Hey man, have you got some 'teaser' images of the book, I think this will help getting people to buy/ invest in your book.
