How many are needed? I would be willing to donate some for sure.
100 (+5-10% for mistakes)
I think the ideal hologram here would be one that has a window for the public key, and is perhaps etched or otherwise modified slightly to indicate the book. Heck, numbering them would be way cool as well!
The ideal solution would be that whoever is providing the holograms also prepares them with the public/ private key, so all that I need to do is pull them from a sticker sheet and place on the cover.
I would like to think that the publicity available here would be worth the effort.
Whoever is interested; please PM me!
Too bad this is a coin book.... The last page of the book could be a Real Satoshi Note....
We did this in the interest of time and being able to make our project manageable. I'm sure we'll add paper wallets and cards in future editions. I do collect paper wallets such as PaperSafe and I have a ton of respect in their quality. Perhaps it's something we could add, to your point. Something like a few pics of Bitbills, PaperSafe, Bitcoin Suisse Notes, Bit card.de, Etc all in 1 page? Even Casacius did a paper wallet before the coins, if I recall.
casascius did a paper wallet? does anyone have one? would like to see it....and paper safe products are top notch. would love to see a satoshi note in there, although requirements creep would keep delaying the project.
I know monkeynuts has a picture of it. It was something like 12 public addresses on a sheet of paper with a personal signature of Mike C over some hologram or other item, if I recall. It wasn't very fancy looking.
http://www.pdf-archive.com/2016/02/07/paperwalletsample/This was Mikes sample doc.
https://i.imgur.com/SRBd2sS.pngThis is a pic of an actual cas paper wallet with the wallet addresses / keys redacted
These were emptied by the original owner, just before I bought the redeemed sheet, so in theory I could probably share an undocdtored image .... I dont have the wallet to hand though, to take a new one (that image was sent by the seller prior to me buying it, and them sweeping the wallets)
I have a generic signed pdf doc from Mike (that I assume was originally intended to accompany the paper wallet ... unsure if he changed it slightly though), dated and signed in June 2011. I am not posting the file, as there is perhaps some detail in there, that I am guessing with hindsight, Mike wished he hadnt shared. There is an image of Mikes fingerprint, and the text in the PDF is as follows
"RE: Fingerprint for Paper Bitcoin Wallet
To whom it may concern,
The purpose of this letter is to help users of my Paper Bitcoin Wallet confirm that their wallet sheet was
genuinely produced by me.
Each genuine wallet sheet has an original fingerprint matching the specimen shown
here, that I placed myself.
Other distinguishing features include:
Fingerprint on envelope where sealed
Private keys printed in blue inkjet (helps blend with security envelope)
Watermarked paper
Postmarked from Sandy, UT '12345' (or nearby, often '12345') ***I changed this ***
Sequence numbers (helps make sure I didn’t accidentally print the same sheet twice)
Also please note this letter is a digitally signed PDF. The digital cryptographic signature can be validated
within the free PDF reader from Adobe. PDF “previewers” pre‐installed on Macs and Linux may not
detect or show digital signatures."
Like I say, I am not sure that was ever utilised or not.
As these keys are not under a security hologram, its unlikely that any sales would happen with unredeemed cas paper wallets. I have only ever seen one of these available for sale (redeemed or unredeemed), and consider myself very lucky to have added it to my collection. Its a very interesting insight into the evolution into the casascius coins. Its clear that the wallets were potentially around from June 2011 (from the signed PDF). The wallet I have was dated 10th September 2011, and looks like it possibly used the cas error hologram rather than Mikes fingerprint (the first cas error coins were first funded on 7th September 2011) .... so perhaps there are also some older cas wallets with the finger prints instead of the holo .... I just dont know
You'll note from the sequence numbers on my doc - 4139 upto 4147 - that potentially many were made .... assuming numbering started at 1..... I am doubting this as surely there would be more floating in the market. Each of the wallet addresses on this one was for 1 BTC. Unsure if that was standard or not.
I would be very interested to hear from anyone who knows about the 'finger print cas paper wallets', or better still has one for sale.
Elias, apologies for jacking your thread. But hey, every day is a school day, and you are writing an encycopedia to share the knowledge
.
