Imagine being against this… Some people really need to get lives and stop trying to play forum policemen all day every day. It’s pathetic. If someone is posting text in colors you don’t like, hit the ignore button. Problem solved. It isn’t that hard. If this is the sort of thing you are thinking about when using this forum, you need to find a Bitcoin project to be a part of.

I don't have a problem with using text colors in posts, but if it becomes a routine habit for most users then it will clearly be very annoying (especially if they use red, blue or other striking colors). In some of my posts, I also use color (but not often), especially in titles and sub-headings. This only emphasizes the point of the discussion, but I try to remain neutral in this case.

I selected "I do not support it" option of the poll. The reason is simple, the more posts we see in color the more we will get annoyed. And, when it comes to text formatting then you can check Halab's post to see how confusing it could be if someone uses wrong type of text in his/her posts.

Halab seems to be a real expert and artist regarding his sample posting. But can anyone point me to a similar posting here in this forum? I am almost 10 years here and have never seen anything like this. but it would be a nice captcha idea.  Cheesy

I think it's normal to use colored text in reviews sometimes and in announcement threads or review + signature campaigns if the color helps to match the theme of the platform. However, in normal posting, use of colors can be quite confusing to many users.

Are you saying that it is ok to use colored text in announcement threads, reviews and signature campaigns and is not confusing, but in a normal post it is confusing? sounds contradictory to me. BTW an announcement thread is in my opinion an important one for the announcing member, so I don't think he wants to confuse the readers. But still it is done and IMO very justified.

Cheers

Do you like colored text in forum posts?
I use colored text sometimes, usually when I want to use it as a warning.
You shouldn't use all bold and all caps in your post, but I don't mind posts with colored text.

Should the forum continue to offer text formatting options, including colors, for posts?
I don't see any reason why it should not continue to exist.

Should the forum owner only remove the colored text option?
No, unless someone is making a circus show from all his posts.

One of the reasons I like this forum so much is that it offers as much personal freedom that is possible and probably more than any other florum I ever visited so I don't think that formatting the text any way you want should be banned (and won't be no matter the results of the poll).

Since you know the right way, please explain it in detail so I can give it to a color psychologist!
Bitcointalk posting etiquette
Merits and rank do not denote common sense. It’s weird that I have to explain it to a legendary account who has been here since 2015. Then again by merit system standards, you would be considered a member rank account at best. Well you’ve had your moment of fame.
You’re free to write like a child learning to play with crayons. Putting you on ignore from now on.

now you made me cry  Cry

interesting how a simple and serious meant poll gets personal.

Hello Members

Since I have been attacked by some members for using colored text in my posts, I thought I would open a poll to see what other members think.

I like colored text.

IMHO every forum I know offers text formatting with all kinds of options including colors for text. There must be a reason for this because if it was not good or acceptable to use the text formatting they would not offer it.

I have to take out the highlights in your post as it annoys my eyes, as a forum member we should be responsible to our readers for what we are writing and how we write it because this is our means of communication with one another here, the test formatting and colored text has specific use to highlight the important texts on our posts.
If you want people to read and value your post then be responsible for how your post will look like.

Take out whatever you want, I really don't care.
But I bet as soon as I do a contest and every word of the text and the highlight as you call it is in a different color and the contest is for example 0.05 BTC that you and many many other color text attackers will not take out the highlights and will have no problem to read it and enter. LOL thanks for the laugh

I did this with colored text years ago and no one complained, why would they? I never complained about colored text and would love to see colored giveaways.

Just like you have narrated, there is nothing wrong with the use of colour text, sometimes, there are some expressions we could decide to use colour text to create a different approach to the way we read and comprehend a post. I have once used colour text and many attacked me that they could to read and flow with what I've written easily.
Then I had no option than to adjust so that my written words would be comprehensible for others. I have found out that reading words that is not black in colour especially when they are homogeneous could stress out eye to focus more and the comprehensive level might be minimal. You are write and there is nothing wrong with coloured words but you will have no option than to adjust so people could find you serious in what you have written.

Do you like colored text in forum posts?
Yes
No
Neutral
My attitude to this is neutral. I am neither an opponent nor a supporter of this, but if it allows to focus on important points in the text and doesn't irritate, why not.

How do you believe the use of colored text enhances or detracts from the forum experience?
Enhances
Neutral
Detracts
Depends on how many colors there are in the text. If within reasonable limits that don't turn the text into a rainbow, then why not.

Should the forum continue to offer text formatting options, including colors, for posts?
Yes absolutely
Yes with some restrictions
No it should be removed entirely
If this feature was originally on the forum, then why on earth should it be removed? Just because a couple of users didn't like it? It sounds absurd.

Should the forum owner only remove the colored text option?
Yes
No

For that matter, a full-fledged and massive survey should be conducted on the forum so that the administration understands the demand for this and makes changes based on this. Isn't this what it should look like?

As an alternative, can add a “remove all colors” button in account profile to please color-haters by seeing only black and white text.

In fact, it seems to me that this problem is not worth discussing and everything should be left as it was originally.

Since I have been attacked by some members for using colored text in my posts, I thought I would open a poll to see what other members think.
And to this you already have a ready answer:

IMHO every forum I know offers text formatting with all kinds of options including colors for text. There must be a reason for this because if it was not good or acceptable to use the text formatting they would not offer it.
If text formatting is available on the forum, then it is acceptable, and those who don't like it have their own personal problems, which they can keep to themselves.

Do you have the guts to tell your signature campaign manager that the signature looks like a circus? I don't think so!
After years on the internet, I'm completely used to ignoring anything that even remotely looks like an advertisement. I've had moments in which I couldn't find something on a website, and it turned out it was in bold dark red with large font. I just don't look at it.

But hey, you got me intrigued. I could just mess a bit with people, making them doubt their own monitor or eye sight, by slightly adjusting the color of my text a bit. How's this? Feeling like you're going crazy yet? I can't deny I like it, but it's adding a lot of useless data to my post.
It's like a printer that's out of ink Tongue

I thought we could agree that a Signature only in black would not catch the eye of potential customers and would be boring and probably easy to overlook. That is my opinion.
You do understand that signature are advertisements, right? And if someone is annoyed with the signatures, he can disable them (if you have the rank required). The same way someone can put you on ignore due your text formatting style.

I understand very well and you should know that I understand how this forum works as I was here many years before you. everyone is free to ignore me with just one click. but they will not do it as they could miss a very nice free giveaway. many years ago when I had my casino and did so many giveaway promos in games and rounds and text was also colored no one complained. you can click in my profile the posts of mine many years ago and you will find all my games and rounds giveaway promos in colored text.

The poll is not about me and my use of color. I love colors, that's all, so please don't get personal, because I can get personal too. The poll is about whether or not text formatting should be allowed. In case you did not know, it is the year 2024 and Stone Edge is long gone, so just come out of your cave.

One of the reasons I like this forum so much is that it offers as much personal freedom that is possible and probably more than any other florum I ever visited so I don't think that formatting the text any way you want should be banned (and won't be no matter the results of the poll).

100% agree with you

With that being said, we should use the common sense when it comes to the actual use of the text format options but as that old saying goes, common sense is not so common. And if you want to catch other people's attention, much better way is to write quality and interesting posts.

Again, I agree 100% and well said. I just like to add a little color to the text, like spices to food.

Cheers

I like colored text.
And bold text too. I guess you like anything that makes you the center of attention.

IMHO every forum I know offers text formatting with all kinds of options including colors for text. There must be a reason for this because if it was not good or acceptable to use the text formatting they would not offer it.

There is nothing wrong in using color texts in your post. You just have to use it the right way. Colors in texts are supposed to symbolize a certain type of emotion, for example a part of your post could be written in red ink to signify the importance of that particular text. Using multiple colors when posting is ridiculous because it makes you look like a clown and shows you’re not willing to communicate with others. And most importantly it is an eyesore.

Since you know the right way, please explain it in detail so I can give it to a color psychologist!

If you say that red is the right color to indicate importance, then I will only color my text in red from now on, because everything I write is important. Do you even understand what you are writing? I do not think so!

Why are you attacking me? I did not attack you, I just opened a poll with some serious questions and asked for a friendly discussion.

In this case I would say you are an ugly and evil clown

But at least you made me think about opening a thread where all of you are free to attack me. So you have no reason to mistreat your families.

Please tell me now: Did I use the color red correctly as you suggested?

What LoyceV said actually reminds me of how I messed up the slide for my project defense.

During the time I did my project defense at the university, I prepared my slides so colorfully ❤💛💚💙💜 that when I sent them to my supervisor to get a review and remarks, the first question she asked me was, "Am I a baby? She said playing with too much color in coolly written content can actually make the content look offensive to the readers. Color should only be used when there is a need for it; for example, it should be used to point out some action words or incidents that the writer feels are very necessary for the readers to take note of. Color should be used in accordance, not just to paint your whole write-up with too many colors.

@OP, I agree with what some people have already said here: make your write-ups simple, and if you are not sure of how to correctly use the color, just avoid it.

The poll is not about me and my use of color. I love colors, that's all, so please don't get personal, because I can get personal too. The poll is about whether or not text formatting should be allowed. In case you did not know, it is the year 2024 and Stone Edge is long gone, so just come out of your cave.

I'm all for using formatting strategically, but if it gets in the way of clear communication then what's the damn point?  Just keep it clean and simple - you can get your point across without turning your post into a circus poster.

Actually what you are saying is that your Signature is a circus design!

Well, it worked, didn't it? Mission accomplished!

how about red now

Do you have the guts to tell your signature campaign manager that the signature looks like a circus? I don't think so!
