That sounds like a lot of fun experiences! Thank you for sharing. I am sure we'll have our fair share of fun stories to tell later on down the road.

We've spent the majority of the time so far building a dependable system, building a solid editorial board, dependable and talented writers, professional illustrators and designers, and making sure that everything we do will represent Bitcoin in the most professional light. At this moment we could produce future issues at a sustainable rate of 2 per-month if we really wanted to, but I would never let that happen. Quality over quantity.

Many of the problems you have mentioned have been a part of the initial delays (especially people being late for deadlines), but I believe those problems are behind us at this point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but zer0, a seasoned publisher, just issued issues outlining a myriad of ongoing pitfalls associated with issuing magazine issues. Are you saying, Matthew, that the system you and your team have in place won't encounter the same difficulties as established published meet daily?

~Bruno~

I think that's why it's taking so long as he told us over and over again ... To prevent such issues in the future Smiley

I might be the only patient person in this forum. Thanks Matthew for trying to do this as professionally as possible.

I wonder how it must feel like, to be a part of your team, Matthæus?

It's okay, be brave. Come on over and ask me out.  Kiss

How about you finish your magazine instead?

What do you have left to do?

I ask because for years I managed to put out all these publications on time every 2 weeks, and every month even while juggling all my labs and assignments, my epic drinking at the SUB bar every couple of days and sold the ads. I did all three at the same time for longer than I want to admit and made token money
http://discorder.ca/discorder-magazine/
http://ubyssey.ca/
http://exclaim.ca/
A book for Vice
Multiple other books and double issues, and some bullshit advertising graphic design writing/print shitwork.

It was terribad would not do it again, or recommend anybody attempt to publish their own actual printed magazine or newspaper. I would stay up 2 days at a time to make deadline because if I didn't, printers would refuse to print and delay a week, we would lose all our advertisers and probably be sued. Emergency last minute copy cuts, art directors fucking up everything because they've also been up for 2 days and down to the wire dpi changes, advertising no shows, shitty mac software breaking and I had to run through the SUB to steal somebody's macbook to finish it, distribution guy's fucking up delivery constantly, paying out overtime at the printers for being a minute late (yes, a minute), so much bullshit.

The hell doesn't end when you send it to print. That's just where the hell peaks and you get to argue with the printers over screwed up copy, fucked up graphics, ad misplacement and sometimes even total page misplacement. Or they promised you a special color rate and magically it disappears once you show up ready to go and the price is now double. Printing is like 60% of the hell.

Just push out digital copies on clickbank, kindle, wherever the fuck else people buy ebooks and magazines and make your own site to sell it. Trust me. Crowdsource other people to print out welfare anarchist kinkos copies and just drop them at Chapters/Borders (are they still alive?), cafe's and wherever.

I could also write a wall of text lament on all the print distribution problems you'll run into like them fucking up absolutely everything or deciding to no show when it comes time to publish. To get magazines into stores they have to be there on time everytime. They will keep all the money or simply send them back if you don't do it 100% correctly and with consistency.  Online edition, these problems no longer exist.

RELEASE!

Let's organize a demo, fly to UK and demand the release of the magazine issue.  Smiley

What!? Hang on! I thought some customers already received their issues in the mail!?
Dammed, I paid for that just after reading that they did some week(s?) ago!
They were full of shit. Sorry.

I think Bitcoin needs a comic book more than a magazine.

Isn't this whole thread enough of a comedy?

Finished the ULINE catalog. I've seen every single product they have to offer and probably read the description for over 80% of them. I know the different width & tensile strengths of their cable ties, know the NRR of their various ear plugs, and know the load capacity of their shelving units. Next up is product/# memorization. The 5+ hours I put into memorizing these prior to BTCMag arriving will save me minutes if I were ever to order packing, organization, cleaning, and/or trash receptacles over the phone.
Next up is this one:

You might be able to finish it in time for the magazine to arrive. Maybe.
Everything in that catalog gave me sticker shock. Government organizations must order equipment through them.
